Do you have to wear shoes while you are on the river rapids? Can you walk into the ride barefoot or just take them off when you get into the raft and place them in the center console? :confused3 I haven't done this ride in a couple years and my sister, who is going in a couple weeks just asked me.

Thanks for any info!! :sunny:

From my past visits to kali, you enter ride with your shoes on, then place them in the center console. We tend to wear flip flops when visiting rhis park to ease in shoe removal. Other than that, shoes must be worn at all times.

There are now signs telling you to leave your shoes on. What you do from there is up to you.

Erin :)

You used to be able to remove your shoes and place them in the middle. The problem is that you really don't have enough time to put your shoes back on after the last elephant and it could be dangerous to exit the ride barefoot. Imagine your toes getting caught between the boat and the dock. Ouch!

I wear my Crocs or Tevas. If it's too cold for sandals, it's too cold for Kali!

Defintely wear shoes, just as a matter of safety.

These are perfect for riding Kali River Rapids:

Note how well the toes are protected.

If you put your feet on the little railing, they have a lot less chance of getting soaked

We have those and LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! :thumbsup2

When I was there in September they has signs stating that you must wear shoes. To keep my feet dry I put them on the bottom bar. When I saw a bigger wave coming I put them as high in the air as I could. They actually stayed dry. If you can't do that I would suggest wearing sandals.

Okay.. I HAVE to know.. what in the world are crocs? someone link me a pic here or something! LOL

When we went last June and rode Kali, I wore my favorite sandals (leather flip-flops, for lack of a better term) and they got SOAKED. (They got a second soaking that day when we were on Primevil Whirl and the heavens opened and we got soaked yet again.) The leather on the sandals dried all hard and funky and my favoriate sandals were, alas, no more. :(

I thought that from now on if I had shoes that weren't supposed to get wet, it would be worth buying a $1 Walmart poncho and wrapping it around my feet. . . just to save the shoes! Of course, I will be buying myself a pair of Crocs very soon, so that shouldn't be a problem for me from now on. :woohoo:

CROCS -- that's the solution !!!!!!!!!!

THAT was my EXACT thought when I read the post!!! I know they're ugly but MAN are they FUNCTIONAL!!! Those things dry out instantaneously (sp?) and if you're wearing socks, you pull them off before you get in line and put them in a safe, dry place. You ride Kali, soak yourself silly, and then get off--feet are dry in a matter of minutes. Now, the REST of you--that's a different story!!!

Specifically, Keen Newport H2's.

You use to be able to put your shoes in the middle but now must keep them on. I speculated what happened in our litigious society that made them change the policy. I now bring 2 plastic grocery bags with me from home, put a foot in each and tie them around the ankle. This keeps my shoes dry. I look like a fool and am mocked by my fellows but no matter as my tennies are thereby prevented from being squishy all day long.

Do you wear flip flops all day when you're at AK? How are your feet and back when doing this? (I tend to get a back ache if I don't have decent arch support)

Where can you buy these? They look like something DH would love!
Thanks,
DJ

EDIT: OK found them online at several places (including Zappos). They run around $90.

Yup, they're really popular now because they're so good on so many levels (great arch support, great toe protection, fully waterproof, etc.) We used to get them for $69, but now it is typically closer to $80 at zappos.com.
