Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

See a Podiatrist, he or she will prescribe an orthotic insert and show you some excersises that work. Also if necessary he or she can give you a cortisone shot.

Yes and I have found that a combintation of broke in running shoes and a pair of NEW Crocs are the way to go.

I agree. Or a pair of new running shoes can work too if they are exactly the same as your usual ones (the newer cushioning feels better in my opinion). Definitely agree that the Crocs need to be new.

I'll be sure to come back and let you all know how the Birkenstocks and CrocRx work for me. :)

100% agree!!! I love my Sketchers Shape Ups! K-Mart also sells a similar shoe that's much cheaper but, IMO, not as attractive.

My PF stopped hurting after wearing my Sketchers for about a week. It just gradually got better. But I do notice if I go a day or two without wearing them-my feet begin to ache (especially in the evening or early morning) and my lower back hurts more so than usual.

Add me to the Kentuckian's with PF in both feet :sad2:

I have tried two rounds of the PAINFUL shots.
I have tried several round of physical therapy.
I have tried the inserts from the expensive mall foot store.
I have tried the boot, night splints and custom made orthotics.
BUT THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED...
Sketchers Shape Ups. :cloud9:Love them. Don't get me wrong, it's not 100% pain free, but it's a good 90-95% most days. I even have the flip flop version and they work well also. I only wear those once a week. I really don't want to chance sending my feet back into over-drive.

I'm on my 2nd pair now and I can't imagine anything else on my feet.

I hate to hear anyone say they have a problem with PF. I have been having on and off bouts of pain with this for over 11 years I have bought all kinds of shoes I have had the professional orthodics made thru the foot doctor I have worn the store bought ones I have endured the injections I have had the surgery and still suffer. Mine is debilitating when it is at its worst and nothing is really fool proof for me but I have found that alternating shoes is best and I mean alternating between tennis shoes and crocs. I have also found that wearing said shoes is a must at all times and the newer either are the more support I have recieved from them. Besides the crocs the best tennis shoes I have found have been New Balance, Reebox DMX or Fila active run.... The best of them all were my Reebox DMX with the breast cancer support ribbon they had the best support of all and they last long periods of time and alot of the time you can find them at sears for $19-$29 on sale they retail about $69 so that is a deal and not only are they great for your feet but the purchase also helps out Breast Cancer so more than just one person benefits from the sale  Upcoming trip Pop Century Sept 2011

I had problems with Plantar Fasciitis. By far the best solution for me had nothing to do with my shoes. I started using a brace at night which kept my toes extended while I slept. The brace keeps the tendons in your feet extended all night. It some getting used to, but after wearing it every night for 2-3 weeks the pain was pretty much gone. I still wear it occasionally to avoid re-injuring myself, but I haven't had any problems since.

I was just diagnosed with PF this past week. Podiatrist recommended the inserts and New Balance cross trainers. I know I am being silly, but I can't commit ti wearing nothing but the NB shoes all if the time, which he recommended. I know the orthotics won't go in sandals, so I am resolved to deal with the pain at least through the summer. I am going this week to get fitted for the shoes. I may look into the brands mentioned here, great info!

Do you only think that Kentuckians get Plantar Faciitis?

I have had PF in both feet. I am just recovering from the second foot. It usually takes 9 months to a year for it to completely go away.

I have orthotics made especially for my feet. I have had soft orthotics and hard orthotics made.

I also suggest tennis shoes with a good arch support. I like New Balance and Asics.

I really think it's not the type of shoe but which shoe gives YOU the best support for YOU.

Susan

I have had it forever. My podiatrist said I either hurt them playing softball or going barefooted (stereotypical KY kid). I had orthodics made. But Brooks Adrenaline are made for this. They are running shoes but I wear them all of the time. I researched them & talked to my doc. Love them.

So thankful for this thread. Since having my last child last summer, I am suffering with PF. I had three shots of cortizone (the most my doctor will do). The second shot took my pain level from about a 9 to a 4. I figured the 3rd shot will do the trick. I hate to say it, but the pain is back worse than over, only two weeks later. I am going to call to get an orthotics. And this week, I am planning on getting new sneakers. My podiatrist, who also suffers with this, swears by Brooks and Saucony. He told me to avoid Nike, which I do think may have contributed to my intial problem.

So assure me, can I make it thru our next Disney trip in Sept. without needing a wheelchair? I just need proper shoes, some pain meds and some ice, right?

I got plantar facitis about two years ago and bought every orthodic I could find, bought expensive tennis shoes that were expertly fitted to my feet, bought Birkenstocks and a pair of Birkenstock insoles, wore the boot, bought one of the socks that pulls your toes up to wear to bed, used a frozen water bottle to roll my foot on, rolled my foot on a rubber ball, picked up marbles with my toes......esentially followed every piece of advice from my doctor and what I found online. All of that and the corizone shots didn't have any effect at all.

Finally summer rolled around again and I had been suffering from it for almost a year and decided the heck with everything and got my Croc Cleo sandals out of the closet and wore them all summer and guess what? My foot started getting better. Instead of my fuzzy slippers I usually wear in the winter, I wore my Croc Mammoths that are fuzzy inside. I try to keep the calf of my leg stretched out, but that's about all I do now...except I bought two new pairs of Croc Cleo sandals for this summer.

We're planning a trip to WDW in October and all I'm taking are Crocs. I have several styles now, including some cute slide ons with canvas tops and a pair of mens Crocs tennis shoes....can't tell the difference from women's shoes. My hubby hates my crocs...well, the ugly clogs anyway, but now they make so many more styles that I may stop buying regular shoes and just buy Crocs.

uh oh... another from kentucky

i do best at the world with sketchers tone up flip flops. they're just like fit flops but i think a little wider which is good for me... plus a couple dollars less. anytime i've switched out of them, i've hurt really bad! i also got a reflexology massage the day of arrival... and i swear it made a world of difference. saratoga spring's spa is amazing, but you can probably get one cheaper at home.

take time at the end of the night to soak your feet or stop by your resorts hot tub for a few minutes... it really helps!!

edit to add:
i found this article before i left and scheduled the appointment:

Not true. There are brands out there that accomodate orthotics.
