shoes for 14 year old daughter

My DDs and I wear flip flops at WDW in all but the coldest weather. Make sure she has GOOD, broken in flip flops. We like Reefs, Tevas, and the Croc flip flops. We have never had blisters or sore feet from them.

I, too, wear flip flops to the parks. Granted, we only do day trips, living so close, but last time I wore sneakers I couldn't walk without a limp for a week. If she wears flip flops a lot, and they're a decent pair, let her wear them. They really can be comfortable.

I agree with the Reefs! I live in mine all summer long. Make sure they are broken in and you won't have any problems with them. :)

I wore my nike sandals all week except for when it was raining. They were comfortable.

My daughter wore flip flops all lat year and she was fine. I just made sure that I brought a pair of flip flops that she was used to wearing so that she didn't get blisters! Have a great time!:yay:

DD and I wear our flip-flops to the park everyday we are there. We wear Tevas or Reefs and never have a foot or leg ache and we do the parks commando style.

How about the Crocs flip flops (Athens)? Similar look, but way more support and comfort!

You could try ballet flats, too. They may not be much better than flip-flops, but at least her toes would be covered up and it's more like a real "shoe." They sell some comfortable cute ones at Payless Shoesource (I actually have three pairs in different colors).

I find heels more comfertable than I find ballet flats, but that's probably because I have really high arches.

I personally have worn flip flops during entire vacations to WDW, but it never really rained during those vacations. I can't stand flip flops after or during rain because they normally don't have much traction on the bottom, and if a big rush of water comes they slip right off. I've seen many girls walking around WDW with no shoes on, and holding their flip flops in the hands. As I've gotten older I'm more likely to take the comfy route and wear tennis shoes, or at least converses. I would say she just has to learn on her own, even though I know her learning from your experiences would be nice.

I have to agree with the Crocs athens..so comfy. I wore them the whole time on my last 2 trips ( August and November)..didn't even bring another pair of shoes.

She's 14 -- too old for you to micro-manage her wardrobe. Yes, she's making a mistake, but she's old enough to make it for herself. Cheerfully tell her these rules:

1. She may choose her own footwear for the trip.
2. This trip is going to involve heavy walking, and flip-flops are likely to give her blisters. If she develops blisters (or other achey-foot problems), she is NOT to complain or diminish anyone else's enjoyment in any way.
3. She must bring along the comfortable shoes. She doesn't have to wear them, but they must be in her suitcase available, should she decide to wear them.

I won't wear tennis shoes with capris because the combo looks goofy on me. Plus, I wear flip flops nearly all year round (another benefit of living in FL!)

I wear Crocs flip flops (which are more comfortable than my tennies), Crocs, or my Teva Mush flip flops.

Well said!! She is old enough to make the decision for herself but she needs to "consider herself warned". No complaining if her feet start to hurt. Perhaps you could bring an extra pair of shoes and rent a locker to keep them in for "just in case". That's what my DH and I do. Oh and make sure you have band aids in your bag for first aid if necessary.

It's tough when they get to this age where they make decisions we know are mostly likely wrong, but they need to make mistakes to learn...*sigh* ;)

I wore flip flops constantly...Teva mush...and my feet were great. They look cute with capris!! crocs are UGLY...but comfy and such a fashion "thing" right now...go figure!

Have fun!!!

I didn't read all of the replies, so please forgive me if these have been suggested already...Tretorns.

They began as high end shoes for tennis players, and moved into the "popular" realm back in the late 80's / early 90's (with the "preppy" look, LOL). I was into them back then and discovered how comfy they are. They seem to be back in style around here, for both girls and ladies. I just wore mine to WDW in the fall and had not one problem with blisters. Also, they are fine to wear without socks, so they look cute with capris too.

Reefs!!!!

I always used to wear sneakers in the parks...my mom had me convinced that my feet would kill me if I didn't!!!

Got out of high school...and realized there is nothing I like better than wearing my Reefs (sandals) to the parks. They are super comfortable and keep my whole body cool! When it's hot, I just have to find some water attraction or fountain, splash some water on my feet...and my whole body is cool.

So I vote that to let her decide...less of a hassle for you! But in case her sandals do hurt (or you end up wanting to ride bikes or do something that requires closed shoes) make sure she packs some sneakers. Have fun! :)

My daughter (age 13) wore flip flops the entire 7 day trip with no blisters and no complaints. She mostly wore her well worn Rainbows. I made her pack her tennis shoes because I also thought she and the whole family would be miserable from hearing her complaints. I was wrong, she found them to be comfortable and she was able to stay "fashionable".

I'd let her wear her flip flops. I'm very uncomfortable in sneakers - too hot and constrictive. I wear Crocs or Rainbows the whole time I'm at WDW.
