Shoe Question

They have great fit specialists who will watch your gait while you run on the treadmill help get you fitted for proper shoes.

I am so glad we finally got a store who does this. I went in a few weeks ago, they put me in a neutral shoe and then had me run on the treadmill. Turns out, the Saucony Hurricanes another store "fitted" me for after watching me walk and "assessing" my gait are too stabilizing. They put me motion control when all I need is stability. So I tried on some other shoes and ended up in a pair of Nike LunarElite+ 2 and I loved them. I will be back next payday to purchase them. He explained why it's not a good thing to have more motion control than I need. Very glad this running store opened up when they did!

I'd love to do that, but I'd be buying new shoes every 2-3 months. As a father or two that seem to constantly be needing something and married to a woman who also runs, I don't know that I can afford that. lol.

what costs more - a new pair of shoes every 2-3 months, or multiple visits to your friendly PT's office for a running injury treatment?

I am a fan of the Kinvara as well. I really like them for shorter runs up to 10k. For my long runs (15k +), I have been running with Saucony Triumph 8. They have a really wide toe box, neutral, within the Saucony family and the heel is just a bit higher than the Kinvara but not as high as the Progrid Ride which I love when I started running. You will get a bit more arch support from the Triumph compared to the Kinvara. The heel is made out of blown rubber, therefore the shoe is about 3 oz heavier. Good luck!

I recently was fitted for running shoes at a store that specializes in fit. They first put me in a neutral shoe that fit, then on a treadmill to film my gait. From that, they suggested several shoes. The second ones I tried on felt perfect. (Brooks, Ravenna 2) I bought two pairs with proper insoles and I switch them out each time I run. The sales girl told me that a shoe will not go "back to normal" in the insole in less than 24 hours sometimes 48 depending on how far you run, so switching out will definitely make them last longer. It is expensive to buy two pairs at a time, but as an older runner, I try to be cautious regarding injury.
Happy Running!
Pam

I washed my old New Balance Zips and will start using those again (they still have plenty of miles left on them) until I can buy a new pair of running shoes. I'll use them on my 5k runs during the week and use my Kinvaras for my long runs on the weekends.

I ran 12 miles with my Kinvaras Saturday (my longest run to date) and outside a small blister on my little toe, they felt great and I had no issues with them.
