Hello Gang,

I'm hoping to receive some last minute advise. We are leaving Saturday for our 1st trip to disney and i'm hung up on wearing platform flip flops that are very comfortable and also bringing some sneakers.

any have any advise on this whether it's a good idea or not!

I would appreciate any advise we can get.
Also the rain in Florida should we be concerned when it says isolated thunderstorms?

Thanks,
Mom to 2 princess: princess: :disrocks:

I've always read people advising against flip flops b/c it is easy to stub your toe with all the walking you'll do but we just got back and I saw a ton of people wearing regular flip flops. My main concern would be comfort with all the walking you'll do. I wore my most comfortable sandals (made for walking and standing) which I walk in a lot and while my feet were in pretty good shape most of the time, by the end of the trip they were just worn out! You'll walk a lot more than you realize and stand in lines more too. If you can do that in your platform flip flops then you should be fine but I guess I'd err on the side of caution and bring something else.

As far as the rain I looked at our weather forecast before we left and there were supposed to be isolated showers a couple of days we were there. It only rained once for like 20 mins so I wouldn't be too concerned. Weather always changes so much it is hard to tell!

We've not been getting enough rain in FL, but if you do get rain at Disney, there's still plenty to do.

I'd certainly take more than your flip-flops. The piece between the toes rubbed my daughter raw. Normally she loves them, but they didn't work well for Disney for her.

Just bring comfortable broken-in shoes. Be sure to bring several different pair as it is good to switch every day. It's easier on your feet. I always bring several pair of athletic/waterproof sandals/broken-in along with some dresser shoes for non-park days.

I say take both but wear the tennis shoes while you are in the parks. Flip Flops just don't give your feet the support they need for all that walking. Get some good tennis shoes and a Dr. Sholl's Insert and you'll feel like heaven for HOURS! Oh, and Have Fun!!! :wave2:

Do bring some gym or athletic type of shoes. Flip flops are cute, and I love mine, but WDW is a different kind of experience. You'll be walking and standing a lot, and you'll be surprised how much abuse your feet take.

Bring two or three pairs and switch off everyday. No matter how comfortable they are the first day... the second day can cause blisters. I recomend Croc's with socks or good walking tennies.

I don't think platform flip flops would be a good idea to walk around all day. I would think your feet and legs would be killing you! I'm a flip flop girl too..i have Crocs flip flops which i can wear all day with no problem, they are SOOO comfy! Bring 'em and bring some sneakers with you too!

Crocs. Our entire family (six of us) wore them the whole time we were in WDW. By far the most comfortable thing you can wear in the parks and they wash up every night if you want to do that. We are going again in July and will be wearing them every day.

It really depends on the flip flops. I have a few pairs that offer more support and are great for in the park wear. I also have a few pairs that my feet slide around in when they get wet. Not good for park wear anytime from Spring-Winter since it rains almost every day. So really if you have ones that get slippery in the rain, those would not be very good and could cause some serious pain.

You're too late to go out and get new shoes to break in now, so I would say bring the flip flops and sneakers. Just make sure you switch your shoes each day or try the flip flops in the AM if you know you will be taking a break in the afternoon where you could change your shoes.

I've worn Nike Ceso flip-flops for my last 4 park trips. Very comfy, supportive, dry quickly because they're made of neoprene and best of all - CHEAP! Kohl's has them for around $15, both women's and men's. I've got several pair in different colors. Just picked up the men's in brown, and another pair of women's in black and threw away two pairs that I litterally had worn to death!

Converted 3 dds last summer, and DH on our trip in March. They don't take any time to break in at all. They are all I wear in the summer.

Have a great trip!

Buy some crocs. Don't be like me and have to waste precious vacation time looking for them in ORlando because your feet are sore :sunny:

I took several pairs of shoes last year because I wasn't sure what I wanted to wear. I ended up wearing a pair of Sketchers platformy flipflops nearly every day though. They are those kind of squishy ones and were so comfortable. Plus, the way they curve supports my high arches much more than my tennis shoes do.

I wore a different pair of platform flip flops another day that are super cute, but much harder and by the end of the day, my feet and legs were definitely feeling the effects.

I also have a pair of flat Sketchers flip flops that were better than the second pair, but not as comfy as the first.

I just didn't want to be bothered with tennis shoes, especially wearing them after they got wet on a few rides. I think if you've already broken in your flip flops, and they support your feet well, they should be fine, but definitely take a back up pair of shoes.

Crocs are great! Unless your flip-flops give good support for your feet, I'd think about bringing something else. Bring 2 pairs of shoes, so if one pair causes a blister you can wear the other pair.

I am bringing Crocs and Tevas, so I don't have to pack any socks. :sunny:

I was skeptical on the crocs thing until last year. We bought a new pair for everyone in the family (including my 59 year old mother) right before we left for the trip and we did not break them in. I was very much thinking we would wear them for a half-day and have blisters, etc.

Not only did we wear them all day we wore them the entire trip without any issues. They are the best shoes for WDW because they are lightweight, comfortable, work equally well in the water parks or the theme parks, and they are even washable each night, etc.

Coming from a previous skeptic I can tell you that they are the shoes we will keep wearing at WDW.

Wear shoes that are comfy for you. I wore worn in sandels the whole time a year ago. No problem. But eveyone in my party had tennis shoes and blisters. I do agree to try the crocs too. I just bought my first pair(Lime Green) and they are so comfortable. Good luck and have lots of fun.

I personally do the Berkenstock type shoes... They were best for me last trip and a pair of flip flops... sneakers had my feet too hot... I will also be getting a pair of crocs for next trip... I reccomend anything that will give your feet air...

I am really concerned with having my feet comfy for all the walking we will be doing on our trip. I will definitely be getting Crocs for myself and probably DS. Does anyone have a DH who NEVER wears sandals? Mine almost exclusively wears hiking boots or cowboy boots. How do I convince him to throw fashion away for comfort. He is sooooo much more concerned with how he looks. We live in California and I think he just has no idea what the heat/humidity will be like.

Anyone have any recommendations for good shoes for a 2 year old DD to wear? I want her to be comfy too.

My whole family wears gym shoes and socks during the heat of a Florida July because I think that's a better type of shoe for long walking. You'll be hot no matter what--wearing sandals or Crocs is not going to keep you that much cooler. Just my 2 cents...
