Hey everyone who does some walking/running - when was the last time you checked out your shoes? Is it time to replace them?

I am no expert, but I read and hear that the general rule of thumb for new ones is about every 350- 450 miles - that's a good reason to keep a log of your activity!

We don't want injuries or "hurting feet" while all this getting healthy is going on !

Yeah, I need a new pair myself, that's what made me think to mention it to my friends ;)

I was doing some reading on walking/running shoes today. I am trying to figure out if I need walking or running. They say running for walking a marathon, but then I read that walking shoes are made differently. Not sure what kind to get.

Melanie--
I did a 60 mile breast cancer walk almost two years ago, and went to a running shoe store with the same question. The salesman said basically that it is okay to walk in a running shoe, but not to run in a walkin shoe. He recommended running shoes for my training and event.

M-

I go to a small sports store where the owners are avid runners (do lots of marathons) they basically say the same thing that lacool said. They even let you put the shoes on take a short run/walk outside to see how they feel in action.

Another idea is they like for you to bring in the shoes you are currently wearing and they take a look at them to see how you "wear" your shoes, that can give them clues as to a maker/style to steer you toward.

So if you have a reputable sport store I say try there - good luck on getting one you like. I have gotten to where I like a certain one, so it's fairly easy for me - now I just call to ask if they have my size in stock before I make the trip or even get my DH to pick me up a pair when he's going to get a new pair for himself.

Lacool - 60 milk walk - WOW - now that must have taken some training - I am impressed ;)

Thanks for the reminder to take care of our feet. A new pair of shoes is the next purchase that I need to make as well.
