As most of you already know, I ran my Shirt Run Saturday (1/27/07).
For those who have no idea what I am talking about: The shirt run is a 15 mile (VERY HILLY) run from the midle of nowhere to the middle of nowhere in Mangum, NC.
What do you get for those 15 miles of hills? Glad you asked! You get a shirt with the best press on letters ever, pizza, and a membership to the Mangum Track Club. VERY COOL!
Well the start is at 0800 SHARP! We (me and the 3 others I rode with) forgot to take into account that you park at the end and then you are shuttled to the start. SO, we got there late and had to park at the start. Well everyone had already started. But that did not stop us! We got out in the freezing temps and started running.
Let me tell you about the people I ran with!
Jeff - He bikes, swims, and runs! And he does it FAST! He is doing a full and 1/2 Iron Man this year.
Jaclyn - She ran Chicago Marathon in 3:30 to qualify for Boston!
Sannon - Has done several 1/2 iron mans and 2 iron mans!
So to say the least, I was the little
in this group!
Well we started and as we passed the Mangum sign (about mile 1.5) Jeff said we had to take a pic at the sign.
We then ran and ran! We ran up, we ran down! Then we ran up some more! Then up more! You can see kind of how the hill goes up in this pic.
Anywho! At mile 10.7 there starts a 2 mile HILL! I cannot even tell you how crazy steep this hill is!
It just keeps on going up, up, up!
But when it is over! You are almost to the end!
Then you turn onto a gravel road that goes up and a little down...but mostly up!
The rocks are brutal! We were trying to dodge them with out sliding and falling down. It was CRAZY!
But then we came to the end and got the beautiful Mangum shirt! Well after you touch the STOP sign.
Then we all pig out and take a pic of the new members! I am on the far left.
The best part is that I was able to keep up with the BIG
s! We finished in 2:13. That is around a 8:52 MPM! I will take that considering how hilly it was. Also, I do not feel like I even ran!
