Shirley Temples for the children at dinner.

Okay - so this ol' Granny is in a time warp.. LOL

How do you make them - like do you have to shake them up or something? (Someone said they were "pretty"..)

And where would one ol' Granny purchase "grenadine" - whatever the heck that is! LOL

Sounds like it might be a cute treat for my granddaughter over the holidays..

I always buy Grenadine in the soda aisle at the grocery store. They also sell it in Liquor stores. It is a heavy red syrup.

Please don't shake it just stir it. We buy grenadine in the soda/liquor section, too. Make sure to get the cherries - they're usually at the end of the ice cream isle (at Ralphs anyway). Perfect for the holidays - your granddaughter will love 'em.

Shirley Temple's have been around since BEFORE 7-up and Sprite were even invented. The original was gingerale, some of the juice from the jar or can of cherries and a cherry on top! Seems, with time, as is with many things, it has changed!

We always made them with gingerale too! I think Sprite or 7-up would work too though.

So good to know that the Shirley Temple drinks are complimentary! I've loved them since my first sip as a youngster and haven't stopped drinking them since. This is a great recipe that I can make at home when I'm not eating out or on a cruise ship

Our kids go all crazy for the Shirley Temples and they do overload them with cherries for no extra charge. Totally Awesome!!! Man I love Disney Cruises!

My kids go crazy for the Shirley Temples as well, both on the cruises and at all inclusive resorts. They drink them by the gallon lol

And yes......2003 to today.....how far back did you have to hunt to dig this one up?

The original recipe was:
4 oz ginger ale
2 oz orange juice
splash grenadine

But, somewhere along the line, the OJ was dropped and any lemon-lime carbonated soda substituted for the ginger ale.
