shipping?

I am curious I know lots of people ship stuff down to Disney (ie water, food or other stuff) and I was wondering has anyone thought of shipping gear down? I am always looking to slim down what I take on a plane and was wondering if shipping a tripod or a chunk of your gear down before you seems like a strange idea?

I shipped my tripod down for our October 2009 trip to Disney because I get a huge UPS discount at work, and it was definitely worth it. We were only doing carry-ons and I didn't want to risk not being able to take it on with me...so to UPS it went. It made it there in one piece, I picked it up at the front desk and I shipped a return label with it, as well as a tape gun and it managed to get back in one piece.

I don't think I'd ever ship gear down...although I'm not 100% sure why. I guess I'd be too worried about my lenses/camera getting lost, not so much worried about damage since I buy most of my gear online and get it shipped to begin with.
