I'm planning to ship diapers and wipes to OKW for our December stay, and figured I could ship some non perishable foods as well to save on groceries. Does anyone have a list they'd like to share of what you've shipped in the past? The party will consist of 5 adults and DD who will be 19 mos at the time. We plan to eat all but one breakfast in the room, and a couple of lunches and dinners.

Thanks!

If you're planning to do most cooking yourself this is a huge cost saver. I plan my meals and then premeasure any spices or dry goods needed to prepare those meals. Put these items in various size Ziploc bags and write any instructions needed (such as how much water to add to a quantity of Minute Rice). I ship all these items along with foil, plastic wrap, wax paper, etc. ....which I cut into usable size pieces and just lay flat, alternating foil and plastic wrap (so the wrap doesn't stick to itself). I also ship coffee, sugar packets, coffee filters, some cereals (remove from the boxes and just send the interior waxed bag packed between softer items to prevent getting crushed). I also look for sample size bottles or packets of jelly, peanut butter, syrup, salad dressings, etc. and throw those in a smaller box within the shipping carton.......sometimes, you can find these in the grocery store or even Target/Walmart in their travel section. I have also ordered from www.minimus.biz in the past and ship to my home and then just take what I need for that trip and save the rest for the next trip. They have a huge selection of condiment packets, jellies, etc. I believe if you order $20 worth of stuff, shipping is free.

We use studios so we don't really cook but I'd say booze, cereal, oatmeal, booze, microwavable bacon, tuna, booze, coffee, sugar, snacks, booze....

I just finished packing my box for our stay on 10/4. I packed coffee, coffee filters, sugar, splenda, cereal, snacks. things I thought would be a little pricey at the resort.
I am trying to see if there is someway to have bottled water delivered. If anyone knows, please post.
Thanks!

In addition to what others posted I send a set of the picnic size salt & pepper shakers, microwave popcorn and the "Nabs" crackers. Extra zip lock bags in several sizes are good for carrying snacks, wipes etc.
Have a great trip.

There's a big thread right now on the Budget Board about getting water delivered. Many of us have used Costco in the past but they maybe aren't doing it any more:

Personally, I have used both Costco and Garden Grocer before. I am hoping this really isn't the end of water from Costco but I guess only a little time will tell.

LOL
I like the way you think!!
Since we plan to use Garden Grocer for additional stuff, I plan to add beer/wine to that list.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

When we stay in a studio and don't plan to do any cooking I order water from Staples. However, when we're in a 1 bdrm or 2 bdrm and have full kitchen and order Garden Grocer I just add case or two of water to my grocery list, depending how many of us and how long of a stay.

Can anyone give me an estimate of what it costs to ship a box? I know it will vary but I am just looking at a range. I'm not sure I will order enough to hit the garden grocer minimum but if shipping is too much $$$ I could change things around a bit. Thanks.

A few years ago I shipped a box down to VWL and I included instant oatmeal packets, tea bags, sugar packets, snack packs of fig newton cookies. I tried to ship things I could use for breakfast (we planned on eating lunch/dinner at the parks) and snacks that the kids could munch on during the day walking around the park or waiting in line for a ride. I also made a trail mix of dried cranberries, cereal etc and packed them in small ziploc bags. We saved a lot of $$ by bringing our own snacks:goodvibes

I've used both UPS and FedEx to ship......I've found FedEx to be just a little less expensive........maybe $1.50/$2.00 less. I usually ship between 20 and 25 lbs. and it runs anywhere from $16 to about $19.

please forgive the stupid question, but will they hold it if it arrives a day early? Just wondering if it has to be overnighted.

I've never done this before, but with all the luggage rules, this makes sooo much sense!:goodvibes

Yes they will hold for you ......however, keep in mind if you are staying at one of the convention hotels (BW or BWV, YC/BC, BCV, GF, CSR, Contemp or BLT, they will charge you a fee for accepting a package. I believe they only do this at the convention hotels ......not sure if they've started charging at all hotels. I paid $5.00 fee at BCV in May when Bell Services delivered our package to us. If you are staying at a convention resort, the package will be delivered to their "package room". If you do choose to send a package, make sure in addition to the name/address of resort you have please hold for name/guest check-in date on the box. Others have also put their room confirmation #. I have not done that.... only my checkin date. Also, both UPS and FedEx have a time/cost calculator on their websites so you can determine when to send your package for it to arrive on your checkin date, or at least at close as possible (i.e. your check-in is on a Sunday, you probably want your package to arrive on Friday....I think most businesses do have Saturday delivery, but, to be sure I would shoot for Friday) Really no need to overnight......too cost prohibitive to make it worthwhile.
I've been sending a package ahead for at least 4 years.......probably 7 or 8 visits and have only had a small problem once....at BWV.... we were checking in on New Years Day......so because of the holiday week.....I needed to send my package a little early.....I think it arrived on the 29th. When we checked in there was no record of a package having been received at the front desk, but, I had my confirmation from FedEx that it had been received and signed for. It took a few hours but it was found in the package room at the convention center at BW.

Thanks!

We're at SSR/THV, but even if they charge me $5 it's still going to be worth it! This opens up so many possibilities! :-)
