Shipping luggage to Resort via UPS

I tried a 25 pound package, 24x24x24 inches, from Lincoln to Lake Buena Vista and UPS ground came up at about $47.

I've shipped consumables (cereal, instant noodle soups, crackers, granola bars, etc.) to WDW, but never done luggage.

We just shipped 6 medium bags from Mi to WDW, and back for $250. We did through luggageclub. And we did choose the economy service which is FedEx ground. But they arrive the day we arrive and we don't have to worry about getting them and 3 kids, 3 car seats, and 2 strollers through the airport.

Just be prepared in case they don't get there on time. UPS is terrible for on time delivery. I use them quite a bit.

Why would you need to ship the actual suitcase? Wouldn't that make the package more weight? I would just put your stuff in boxes and ship it UPS ground and that way you will have the tracking and you can watch it's progress, see when it was delivered and who signed for it. I have shipped with UPS many times and always use their online calculator so I can determine an estimated time and cost. It is very accurate. I have never had any problems with it taking too long or getting lost. I just used them to ship my toiletries and snacks to AKV and had no problems. On our way home the airlines lost our luggage and we finally did get in back. That was enough for me to not want to trust them anymore.(long story!) From now on I'll use carry ons and ship the rest down. I think it's a great idea.

I'm considering doing this for our trip in Jan. I doubt I'd ship the suitcase though. Just pack everything up in a box or two and ship it down a week or so ahead of time.

Our last trip home the airlines lost our luggage for a few days. Luckily it was the trip home and it was just dirty laundry.

Couple of things.

I wouldn't trust UPS with my luggage for a vacation, no way, no how. If you are just shipping a few things that is fine but if you are thinking of shipping a lot it is a risk that it will get lost or delayed. It is also very expensive. Don't forget you have to insure it for replacement value as UPS will cover only the first $100 per shipment.

You also have to ship it back which could be a big pain taking time out from your vacation.

With magical express making it easier to get luggage to and from WDW I don't know why you would want to do it. If you are worried about the airlines losing your baggage then buy travel insurance that will cover any lost baggage issues and allow you to move along with your vacation.

That being said there are now companies that will handle getting your luggage to your vacation destination with gurantees etc. I have looked at them and they are very expensive.
