With the airlines continuing to increase the cost for luggage, I am just wondering if anyone ever ships items from home and if so any information on cost? Obviously I know it would be dependent upon the size and weight of the box but just wanted to get an idea? We have 1 owner's locker but may need to look inot getting a second one!

DH and I were just discussing this last night. We were speculating that a lot of people are going to this idea. I'm surprised that no one has answered you yet. I confess we haven't, but that's because, as an elite frequent flier (Oh, yeah-really elite-all that means is he gets the "privelege" of sitting his butt on the airplane for lots and lots of miles per year); but if we did have to pay luggage fees, this would definitely be a consideration.

I have done it, and bought a return shipping label to ship back home. You can go on to the UPS website, put in the dimensions and weight of the box and they will give you shipping options and prices.

I shipped diapers, wipes, granola bars, extra hand soap, our ponchos, baby food (plastic containers), plastic baggies, and some other little stuff that I can't remember. It was about $16 each way. Bell services delivered it as soon as we checked in.

BLT, BCV, and BWV has a package handling fee for all packages based on size and weight. It has been reported that the fee for a case of drinking water was $10 each.

I shipped a box down in October (BCV) and in January (BWV). I was charged a $10 handling (?) fee each time. It was more than worth it.

Right now I am preparing to ship a box down to BCVs (via UPS) at the beginning of next month. As a new owner of OL, I will be filling it up! I am prepared for the $10 charge that I believe will be charged but I feel it is well worth it as stated.

Yes, I have done this. Whether or not you are charged a fee (from the resort) depends on where you are staying. Some of the resorts that have a conference center charge $10 I think. I know that BCV charges & the other ones that have already been mentioned. However, I still think its worth it to save on luggage fees! Plus, some of the Disney resorts do not charge a fee. I shipped a package to myself last year to AKL and I wasn't charged anything. I sent a HUGE box to myself...filled with diapers, wipes, jars of baby food, disposable bibs, disposable cups/spoons/forks/bowls, shampoo/conditioner, baby wash, etc. I filled up a large diaper box full of these things & it was fairly heavy. From PA to FL it cost me around $15 and I shipped it Priority Mail. I really think it saved on luggage space as well as fees & it was great to know those items were already at the resort waiting for us to arrive!

It was a simple process. I called Guest Services to confirm the process, but basically you just ship the box to yourself at the resort. It helps them a lot if you put the following:

Your First & Last Name
Reservation Number & Arrival Date
Resort Name
Resort Address

Once they receive your package, they "link" it to your ressie in their system. As soon as you arrive, they get the box. I didn't even have to ask for mine, the CM said "Oh, I see you have a package" and went to get it immediately. I was very impressed with the check-in process & how easy it was.

I will be shipping myself another package this year & am thinking about buying a return label as well to ship stuff back home once we are in FL!!! I hope this helps, please ask if you have any other questions!

I also forgot to mention...whenever I called & spoke to a CM, they suggested that you ship it so that it arrives at the resort no more than 2-3 days prior to your arrival. They said if it just sits there for weeks & weeks, there is a higher chance that it will be misplaced or lost.

If you ship it Priority about 3 days before you leave, it should arrive at WDW the day before your arrival.

this is sooooo cool to know...I plan to do this when we go the end of july...I guess water would be the biggest plus, then snacks for the room and things like that.... thanks for posting all this....popcorn::

So, how do you ship the items back home? Will guest services help you with this? Or do you have to have UPS/USPS pick up from you? Thanks!

I'm not sure because out of all the items I shipped TO myself, I only brought maybe 2-3 very small items back home with me & they fit in my suitcase. I'm not sure if they do this at all of the resorts, but I've heard people say that Guest Services will help you ship it back home (they print out a label for you & everything). Make sure to put your shipping box inside the closet or write a note for Mousekeeping so they don't think the empty box is garbage & throw it away. I would either call Customer Service or try to get an answer from someone else because I'm not 100% sure of the exact process.

Would I be able to pick up my package at the BCV pick up area on a Sunday?

I was hinking of shipping a box but am not sure if I would be able to pick it up on Sunday morning when we arrive. Does anyone know the pick up days and hours for Beach Club? If I can then I will ship as a new OL owner with lots of stuff to pack!!

Thanks

When you ship the box to the resort, ask to buy a return label. At the end of your stay put the label on the box you want to send home. We took the box down with our luggage at check out and bell services took it from there.

We used the UPS store to ship. When we took the box to be shipped, we bought a label for the same weight. The only hard part was approximating the weight of the box at the resort!
