Does anyone know how to go about doing this? I have a friend in Sydney and we were discussing the different chocolate companies. The only one that doesn't sell their products there is Hersheys!

She has a friend that gets Reeses cups and Kisses shipped to her from the USA. I would like to send her a care package of some of these.

How do I? Can I just buy a bunch and ship it? I know a Priority Package will take about 7-9 days to get there. What about it melting?

TIA!

I have received chocolate in the mail from friends in Germany and New Zealand. I have never gotten melted chocolate, even here in the deep south.

I have also sent chocolate abroad. I just put it in a box with bubble wrap and sent it off, with the appropriate customs form attached. You have to go to the post office to mail it, to get the forms and the correct postage. It's not a big deal, though, and my friends were as thrilled with their American goodies as I was to get the things from them. :goodvibes

I have no idea WHY it doesn't melt, but it didn't melt for me. :)

Thanks Laurie! I know people send that kind of stuff overseas to the Troops, but wasn't sure. I will just do it and see what happens.

My brother's girlfriend lives in Sydney.
I know that she has mailed him chocolate (he lives in Orlando) before and it didn't melt.

I'm not sure if he has ever mailed her any, though.

Sorry if that isn't much of a help :lmao:

Hi,
What a thoughtful gesture.
There is a company in australia that ships 'american food' around OZ. I have several friends that use their services but I have no idea the difference in cost etc.

In Australia do Hershey's kisses have the little swirl on the bottom?;)

MemoryMakers2669 - Ask your friend if she is a member of Costco in Australia. I'm pretty sure that Costco stock Hershey's...particularly the Kisses. I don't know if they stock the chocolate bars (or at least I haven't seen them).

The usafoods store is great but it is rather pricey compared to prices in the US. Depending on the quantity and weight, it is cheaper to ship it from the US to Australia.

Just be aware that there are some restrictions on bringing/shipping food into Australia. Chocolate is normally fine and if you are thinking of shipping anything else in the care package, you might want to check the list of "can't takes" here:

Just an FYI-we sell chocolates at the shop I work in
Boss never buys them in summer-they melt in transport

I agree with usafoods.com.au :)

We lived in Perth Australia for 3 years and used USA Foods for many things we couldn't get in Oz....it is a little pricey but we were very happy with everything we ordered there.

Also tell her to try IGA stores....we found quite a few IGA's that carried some US chocolate like Hersheys and Reeses and other US food products.

Also I do believe there is a Costco store near Sydney, have her check online , they should sell some US products...Perth didn't have a Costco but I believe they are getting one eventually

That said it is currently winter in Australia so it would be a good time of year to mail chocolate ...though the box will have to go through customs...Australia is really strict on incoming food products. There shouldn't be an issue with packaged chocolate getting through though

I wish I could figure out a way to get Copha Oil here without it melting. We can't get it here as far as I know and it's used in one of my favourite Australian recipes from when I was growing up.

Chocolate soup anyone???

Sent a box of goodies to my son in NZ (very similar sister countries) and customs took out most of it, and it was prepackaged with ingredients listed. Some of the things taken out were totally ridiculous, while some that may have seemed questionable (to me) were left. :confused3
