Shipping Boxes ???

Dumb question, but what are you guys sending for yourself to the cruise?

Bonnielynn, I bought a Uhaul box and left it in the bedroom and put stuff in it for a year before our trip! As I thought about it, made it, or bought it, I dropped it in the box and then organized the week before. I just felt better knowing it was in one place and if I decided against something I could take it out before shipping but at least I remembered that it had a supposed purpose at some time!
I think it ended up weighing close to 50 lbs when I shipped it. Let's see, I put Distag bags in there, goodie bags for CMs, pirate costumes (complete with wooden swords), birthday presents for DD celebrating 3rd birthday, photo mats for signatures, sharpies, sandbuckets and floats that we could then just leave on CC for other guests, surprise gifts for the girls and DH upon arriving, (nothing against Shirley and giftbaskets in general, did that the first year, but I found I could buy up stuff and make it pretty, ship ahead and still surprise them and come out cheaper doing it this way), all of my stateroom magnets, a book and magazine or two, and nonmeltable treats for the shows so we wouldn't have to pay big bucks for theatre snacks (.99 cents for big boxes all day long at WalMart). OH! And an empty duffle bag to bring all this stuff plus souvenirs home in!

If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost to ship the box? Did you ship the box back home at the end of the trip?

Hi~

I shipped mine home at the end of the trip. I found a fedex in the area, & drove to it before the airport. We thru everything in the box, it was heavy. It cost us, (ball park figure) about $20.00 We sent it Fedex Ground. The fedex was open on a Sunday too, they just didn't ship it till Monday. I am in the NYC area, it took about 4 days to get to us.

I also shipped a package to Barcelona on the Magic, before our cruise. It cost me $11.00 Did not ship anything home.

Hope this helps

Okay, here's one for the folkes who went on the EB Repo in '05. Did anybody ship ahead and what's the address? I would like to send our formal clothes and snorkel gear. What a combination :lmao:

It was november, so I don't remember exactly, but I sent it UPS and it was about $28, I think. And worth every penny so I didn't have to listen to Hubby fussing about lugging the stuff. And no, I didn't ship anything back. The distag bags, floats, etc were left, presents packed or toted and the empty duffle carried what was left that didn't fit back in the suitcase. It really, really worked out great and I was so glad to read that tip on these boards!

I just called this morning to confirm this information and it has not changed. The woman answering the call did say No liquids of anykind. I guess i won't mention the little bubbles in there. She did say to write name and stateroom on all sides if possible. Also it was stongly suggested to ship with carrier that has tracking system.

I DID THIS LAST YEAR, I MAILED IT FEDEX GROUND. IT WAS GREAT, MY PACKAGE GOT TO THE ROOM BEFORE MY LUGGAGE DID.

HERE IS WHERE I MAILED IT TO, I WOULD STRONGLY ADVICE YOU TO CALL DISNEY, TO MAKE SURE, THAT THIS IS THE CORRECT ADDRESS.

IDS
9001 Marlin Street
Cape Canaveral, FL 32920
phone - 321-799-9100

pkg must arrive by 5:00 PM on Fri. for Sat and Sun sailings
Pkg must arrive by 11:00 AM on Thursday for Thursday sailings

You must have your name/stateroom#/ship name on the outside of the pkg.

MAYBE, YOU CAN LET US KNOW, HOW YOU MAKE OUT WITH SENDING THEM.

This may be elsewhere on the thread, but in addition to your name, stateroom number, and ship, you should include the embarkation date (IDS is not Disney and doesn't have the passenger list).

I believe they now want a list of the contents on the outside of the box. We're going to be generic, not specific, i.e., pirate costumes (2), books (4), small gifts. I might not mention the bubbles either, PurplePrincess4 - but I'd have them in double ziplok baggies and well padded. Can you imagine the mess you'd have if they broke/leaked?

Does Disney charge you to put in your stateroom? I have heard Shirley from the Perfect Gift say that Disney charges her 12.50 to deliver to the stateroom. Just wondering if this is true for IDS.

No Charge

Hi! I've been reading all these posts, and am just wondering if anyone has shipped recently? The last post is back in Oct of last year.

We are sailing May '08 and just want to make sure this is still working.

Also, anyone care to comment if you've shipped, and **ahem** failed to mention that you have some bottles of liquids containing bubbles on the packing list? Did everything arrive and intact? :rolleyes1

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't ship any liquids. You can stop and purchase some wine on your way to port (unless you're using Disney's transfers I guess, which I wouldn't do).

Don't get the whole water thing. I can't imagine lugging bottled water onboard on my vacation. A vacation is mostly about relaxing and enjoying yourself. I've heard the water on tap is very good, and you can purchase a bottle of water if you need it onboard. Just my take on it - I'll bring a sports bottle for the kids to have water next to their beds at night, then toss the bottle at the end of the week.

I do think we'd buy a couple of nice bottles of wine to take onboard, but that's all. We are using a shuttle so they'll do a grocery stop.

Difference between IDS and TPG is that we can deliver just about anything legal and do not have a weight or package size also I charge exactly what I am charge which is $12.50 - Dave from IDS stopped in here a several weeks ago and he told me that he is considering dropping the box deliveries to the ships since they have doubled and stuff is being sent that are not suppose to be and size of boxes or weight is not being adhered to. I can not understand why since he is paid by DCL and I do not know if this was just a comment or he really is thinking about it but if I hear different, will let you know.
Always
Shirley

It's been a while since I've been on the boards. Can someone get me caught up. Is shipping packages ahead still allowed or has it been discontinued?

Yes, however some of the rules have changed this year. Check out the FAQ sticky at the DCL Forum's main page or Shirely's Helpful Infomration thread for details.

The FAQ points to this thread, and not Shirley's.
