Ship Battle (Points question)

How do you gain points in Ship battle, and how do you lose points (if that is possible)?

We tried every method we read here on the board with a team yesterday for almost 10 straight hours. Then a good friend of mine came and told me another way which only takes 2 rounds but 8 players are needed. It was easy peasy. No one but the "designated" one shoots hitting each player one time and allowing them to get health. Pick the black pearl boat for the shooter. I cant believe how long the other way took us, this way was actually fun.
