Grrrrr, I have shingles - AGAIN!! I had shingles 3 years ago after back surgery. I had surgery on my cervical spine 5-6 weeks ago, and I just discovered the rash tonight.

Of course tomorrow is sunday, so I won't be able to see my doctor until monday at the earliest.

Thank you for reading my whine. Anyone here ever had shingles? Where was it. Mine is in a private place.

I had shingles all over my left side above the waist. I had them when I was 17 as a senior in high school. At the time I had absolutely no idea what that hideous rash was. :confused3 My parents already stopped bringing me to doctors and I knew they wouldn't do a thing anyways to help me, so I told no one. I debated telling the school nurse, but I was too embarrassed and thought she would be dismissive, too. So I just bought the biggest bandaids I could find, and tried to cover up the rash, and hoped it would go away by itself. It took well over a week to see any improvement, and months and months before it healed. I don't remember pain - just that awful raised rash!

I only found out years later when I was flipping through a medical book did I recognize the rash and know it was shingles. Thank goodness I never had them again!

I feel so bad for you!!

I personally have never had shingles. My grandpa had them when I was really little - he was battling Hodgkin's (sp?) and he got them on the top of his head. My aunt got them when she was battling kidney issues, she got them over her left eye and she is VERY lucky it didn't go into her eye.

I cannot imagine how it feels, but from being close to 2 people who have gone thru it, I know its no trip in the park.

If it does get unbearable, you can go to the ER, thats what my aunt did and they gave her stuff for it (sorry can't remember what they did for her but they did help her).

Feel better

Call your doctor tomorrow and see if he will call in some acyclovir. The sooner you start it the better it will work. You don't have to wait until Monday.

I have had shingles twice. The first time it was on my bra line. REally really annoying place to have it because I couldn't wear a bra. The second time I had it on a hip.

Anyway, sorry you are having to go through this. It is no fun. Hang in there

I had it on one of my craniofacial nerves. It came down my cheek by my eye and ended at my left nare. It was horrendously painful.

Yeah - see if you can get that anti-viral medicine. My Mom had shingles 9 1/2 years ago when she was 83 and suffers - to this day - from the risidual effect: post herpatic neuralgia. PHN is a more common lingering problem in the elderly. Had she taken the acyclovir as soon as she discovered the rash, she might have had a milder case of it.

I feel your pain.:scared1: I had it about 10 yrs. ago in my scalp and just above my right eye. I NEVER want to experience that again. Call your dr.'s service and leave a message, maybe he/she will call in a prescription to your phamacy to cover you until you can be seen in the office. Good luck:sad2:

My mom currently has shingles on her bra line. She already had to postpone knee surgery because of them. She fell earlier this week and I think she tore her rotator cuff! So I'm hoping they heal so she can get the surgery over with soon!

I had shingles in Sept 08. Iwas in a lot of pain and the rash was awful. Call your doctor and get on the medicationn as soon as possible. I also saw you were having surgery on monday. Could it be nerves? If you have had them before you should be pretty sure. Good luck I hope your surgery isn't canceled.

I had it twice. Once on the bra line, the next on the bottom of my foot (odd place). Both cases were mild and I took valtrex which wiped it out quickly. But even with my mild cases, it was horrible. I can't imagine what people go thru with the more serious cases. I did get the shingles shot last year so hopefully I won't get it again.

Yes, everytime I get an X-ray, I get them. Now, I prep....I tell doctor in advance and get the script.

I would call them, since you had them a few times. I think that they would call the medicine in. It is too painful to not have treated.

Other option, do you have a walk in center/clinic that you can go to?

I hope you feel better!

They have a shot!!! I had no idea.

My son had it at 25 years old and my father has it now. Yes, there is a shingles shot and my dad will be getting his as soon as he recovers from shingles. This was recommended by his doctor. Having shingles once, does not make you immune since it is caused by the chicken pox virus that lies dormant in your system. You need the shot.

I had shingles when I was 26. It was on my back right at my waistband which made wearing pants almost unbearable. I had just started a new job that was very stressful and had long hours. The doctor said lots of stress and lack of sleep can bring on shingles, even in young people.

If you have an urgent care in your area go there today. The sooner you get the medicine the better it works. I had shingles 4years ago and it was so painful. I was telling people that I would rather be in labor. Ironically I found out I was pregnant a week later. It freaks out the doctors when you have both so lets hope that it doesn't happen to you.

One of my rashes was in the shape of a smiley face. God's little joke on me.

I had shingles twice while under going treatment for something else. The first just a rash, the second time a rash and HORRIBLE pain. It would flare up and feel like someone lit my leg on fire. My mother witnessed my agony and got the shot so she wouldn't have to experience it. I took acyclovir and Lyrica also for the pain.
Good Luck!
