No, it's not a bad word, is it? LOL

Looking for training tips / advice from people with Shih-Tzus. Thanks!

You may want to play with the spelling :rotfl:

I'm sorry, I don't have a ****zu, but I'm cracking up laughing here!

****zu
****zu
****zu.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Would that be a shi-tzu? If so my husbands family has one that is the perfect dog!

I was searching for a better way to post it so it would work. I thought since it was one word it wouldn't be blanked out. Oh well, here's a pic.

We have a Shih-tsu (I thought that was the correct way to spell it.) She is the sweetest dog ever. However, she was/still is very difficult to potty train. Crate training did not work with her. We had to do the keep her on a leash at all times method. She still has some accidents, but she is much improved.

What a cutie!!!

You have it spelled right now - SHIH TZU.

I have one. My biggest advice? Be very patient ;) They are very difficult to housetrain, very stubborn, and not one of the brightest breeds. However, they make up for that in their undying love and affection, being a cuddle bug, and being happy to just be with you.

Harley is MY baby - I love him to pieces. But he has not been easy like our younger dog. Actually, getting our younger dog potty trained Harley about 95%. He still has accidents and probably always will unfortunately. We have to keep a constant eye on him. He only knows 2 commands even after hours and hours of working. I have a feeling he knows more than he's letting on but is choosing not to listen ;) Our other dog, on the other hand, knows TONS of commands and tricks.

But Harley does his job well. They were bred for royalty and to sit on pillows and be pamped. He does that well! He does not think of himself as a dog, he's much too good for that, and he's a great companion. We adore him ;)

Well her name is Bella and she really is so cute. She sleeps in a cage and wakes up around 6 am, which is too early for me. So my DH puts her in bed with me once he gets up. All she wants to do is play. She's licking my face, biting my nose, rolling around and going crazy. It's too cute. So I've been losing a little sleep lately but it's worth it.

Training is not going too well though. I thought she was doing good and then it's like she completely forgets. She knows her "home" (the cage) and likes to go there throughout the day depending on how she's feeling. She also likes the spot behind our bedroom door and I think that's because the air conditioner is in that room and it's nice and cool.

We have a 2 1/2 year old female Shih Tzu. She is the sweetest dog. She was pretty hard to potty train though. We used the crate training plus the potty pads. We found she did better if we only allowed her in a small portion of the house instead of roaming free throughout the whole house. We kept the pads in the kitchen close to the back door. She eventually would go to the back door when she needed out to potty. It took about a year to really get her trained. She will once in a while go poop on the carpet--but very rare. They definitely are hard to potty train. Stay with it!

Shih tzus are the best dogs... They are so affectionate and want to please you so much... they are also very smart dogs if they are stimulated.. we started Angel Baby out right when she was 8 weeks old at classes at Petsmart and she can obey lots of commands and even gives high fives.. very cute!! Good luck with your beautiful furbaby!

I guess we're lucky, but our Shih Tzu, Belle, was easy to potty train.

She's our angel. Believe it or not, someone gave her to me (no charge) because they just didn't want her anymore. That was one of the best things that ever happened to us!!

However, the thing that drives me crazy with her is EATING. She is a very stubborn eater. I've tried every dog food and she'll walk away from every brand. The only thing she'll eat is Gerber Graduates baby food :rotfl: .

Another shih tzu owner here! I love my Simba to death. He is 2 and rarely has accidents in the house anymore but it took a long l-o-n-g time. He can be stubborn when he wants but he is the most loving dog in the world. Just be patient and consistent.

I have one! As you will find out, they are VERY loyal! I have 2 dogs. When I am down with a migraine, or any other illness, Dudley (the ShihTzu) will never leave my side. I have to physically pick him off the bed and carry him to his food dish so he will eat. Not at all like Hunter, our Lab, who will never pass a meal up! :teeth:
Dudley was a stray I took in. He was hanging around the buidling where I work. I made alot of calls to shelters and waited a week for someone to claim him. When no one called, we kept him for our own. The vet thought he was about 1 1/2 yrs old when I first took him in and feels he is 100% Shih Tzu. He was already housebroken, so I can't help you there.
Shih Tzu do love to guard their houses! Dudley will sit perched on the back of the love seat looking out the window for anything that moves!
He loves everyone that comes in the house but he is especially devoted to me.
Hunter was overjoyed when I brought Dudley home. He thinks Dudley is his! :goodvibes

Here's my Dudley:
