I am thinking about getting a kitten for my wife for her birthday. I've possibly got a choice between a silver male and a white male. Here are the pictures, which would you pick?

Get them both! Cats are social creatures and they'll enjoy each others company when your family isn't around.

I agree, get both. They'll be happier and more social. Cats need a companion. Besides, look at them. How could you possibly choose?

:D

How can I choose? Easily. They are Siberian Kittens because I have cat allergies. So it's going to set me back a pretty penny. One I may be able to do. Two would be impossible.

Can you handle a deaf cat? Most white cats with blue eyes are deaf. Not that, uh, all cats aren't deaf when they want to be.

Other than that, I can't choose! Both are too cute!

Awww they are both adorable but I vote silver simply because MY BABY is a Silver Maine Coon. He set me back a pretty penny too but he is sooooo worth it. He is just over a year old now.

Awwww, Jeff.... they're ADORABLE!!!

I choose kitties who choose ME! I know that sounds crazy but every cat I've ever gotten was because of the eye contact and the way they reacted to me. When two strays were born on my Mom's carport, we waited till they were weened and decided to take one home. I sat down and said to them "okay, guys, who wants me to be their Mama?" One sat still while the other, my Xena, climbed up my lap to my face and looked me in the eye like "you are MY human!" She's been my baby for nearly 5 years now! Her brother went to my niece in San Francisco.

Choose by temperament, too. If you and your wife prefer a gentler cat, check to see which one is the quietest. If you like feisty, choose that. Most kitties are born with their temperament and you will have no problem figuring that out.

And, of course, the BEST answer has already been said, GET THEM BOTH! My kitties are so wonderful together!

I thought of a couple things to add, as a white cat momma.

White hair shows up very well on EVERYTHING. My black cat's hair isn't near as visible as the white.

You have to protect their ears from the sun. Because their ears are so exposed, they can get sunburned easily. Too many sunburns = skin cancer for kitty. So, yes, we put a special kitty suntan lotion on Tycho.

Other than that, the kitties are the same!

Jeff -- I say the silver, but for other reasons. As you know, I have Siberians as well (glad to see you're finially getting one!! :D ). I've had silver, red, white with a little blue, brown/red (torbie), and blue. Of them all, by *far* my white with a little blue (Skye) is the one I'm most allergic to. By far, the silver was the one I was least allergic to, and my blue (similar to silver) is the one I'm next-least allergic to. (Granted, none of them give me much problem at all, but if any of them will, it'll be Skye).

So with allergies, I'd go with the silver. :)

They are both so adorable I feel guilty picking one over the other... LOL But, I would probably pick the silver! More character in his color! Why don't you just get both! :p

If you can, I really would get both. It is great when you get two at the same time.

Both! They are so adorable! I could not decide!

They're both so sweet it was hard for me to vote but I chose the silver one.

That's how we got our cat. He walked up onto our porch as a kitten and stayed with us for the next 16 years. Now the neighbor's kitty has been hanging out in our backyard lately. He wants attention. He meows at us if we ignore him. And when we pet him he throws himself on the ground and rolls around. What's creepy is he looks a lot like our cat that died last year. And he's just as sweet and friendly.

I would want my DH to bring home the silver one but gosh that white kitten is SO cute, too!!!:D
