She's Your Daughter!!!! A Girls Trip -- Last Day & Departure Day -- Pages 76 & 77

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for Markie and Alisha. I apologize for the lack of responses or an update. Life has been hectic with 25 emails, text messages a day from the two of them! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'm now making cookies because we are going to Dubuque tomorrow to spend the day/evening with the newly engaged couple and, of course, Markie needs my cookies.

We will be back on Sunday late morning and I will try to edit my pictures so I can get an update done (there are two other kids in the pictures and I can't post their pictures so I have to smoosh their faces).

Thanks for hanging in there with me.
Smooshing faces mmmm that spunds familiar :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Just popping in to say HI! :wave2:

I hope you had a nice weekend with Marie and your future daughter-in-law! :goodvibes

Oh dear, now I am teary-eyed Kat! What a lovely, sweet story. I love it! And I also love how Markie is all "I'm winging it." He did a perfect job and how clever to have it all filmed! (I wish DH and I would've done that so we could look back on our engagement.)

June sounds like a perfect time for a wedding! You must be over the moon excited and little does Alisha know what a wonderful woman she's getting in you as her mil.:goodvibes Any chance they'll have their wedding at Disney? Or is that Andy's gf who loves Disney like you do?

And yes, they are gorgeous together. What beautiful grandbabies they'll make!:goodvibes

ETA: And thanks for sticking up for me in regards to Marvie. It's so hard being misunderstood Kathy but I knew you'd come to my rescue!

Sorry I made you teary-eyeds (but at least it wa sa good teary-eyed and not when Marvie does it ;) ).

I don't know if Alisha thinks I'm so wonderful right now. I tried talking them out of doing something at the wedding reception and it did not make either one of them happy.

They will make gorgeous grandchildren for me. :

And I will stick up for you any time I can with Marvie giving you grief.

Yay for the word Yes !!!! I would love to hear about a Disneymoon!!

They are not sure there will be a honeymoon right away. She graduates a month before the wedding. It iwll depend on if she gets a job right away. If not, they'll go; if she gets a job, they'll obviously wait awhile. Unfortunately, the last I heard, a Disneymoon is not in the running.

Awww. How sweet and romantic!

Thanks, Jen.

oh my Kathy, tears in my eyes too...what a sweet proposal, you and Mark have raise a good man there :goodvibes

can't wait to see the video!
congratulations again to the happy couple and to your family

I'm afraid I can't get the video posted. Trust me that it was sweet.

Thanks for the congrats.

So sweet! :) Congratulations to your entire family!

Thank you, Michelle.

What a sweet story! They are so cute together :goodvibes

Thanks, Ann. They are very cute together.

Kathy that is a great picture of Markie and Alisha. The picture of the ring on her finger looks a little blurry.........was she still shaking??? j/k

Great job by Markie winging it!!! Sometimes things work better when you just let them happen and go with it........... :goodvibes

Thank you, Marv. She was shaking and in shock.

He did good, but Alisha told me last night she's not sure he ever really asked her...just got down on his knee and put the ring on her finger. She said she could have just forgotten too after the shock of seeing him get down on his knee.

What a sweet engagement story! :lovestruc Congratulations to you and your family!

Thanks, Jen. :)

What a beautiful story! So glad that it all went off without a hitch! When it's meant to be, it will be! Congrats again to all of you!

Thank you, Ali.

Congrats to Markie and Alisha.

Kathy you must be so proud. Sorry it took me so long to get over here. I followed the news on FB and was eager to get caught up.

Markie looks so happy he is glowing. Alisha is glowing too. Just like how 2 people in love should look. :goodvibes

Pat, they were glowing in the picture, and they were glowing when we wer with them yesterday.

Wow, Markie really did a good job on that proposal. :thumbsup2

Congratulations to newly engaged couple and the family!

I'm very proud of him...I told him he needed to make it memorable and he did.

What a cute way to set up a proposal! Isn't it wonderful knowing that your child has chosen to spend his/her life with someone we also get along with? It makes it all the more special.

She truly is one in a million; he did good!

congrats on the news:cool1::banana:

Thanks, Dan.

All caught up...really enjoyed the AK pictures! Cayley makes a very cute lion. And thanks for including an "end" photo or two.

Congrats to Markie on the engagement! Sounds like he pulled it off really well. Awesome.

Hi, Mark. Cayley was the cutest lion I've ever seeing. And you are welcoem for the "end" photos.

Thank you for the congrats on Markie.

What a great looking couple....they look so happy! I can only imagine how excited you are! Congratulations my friend:hug:

Excited I am; I just wish they'd calm down a little. They want to get so much done so quickly.

That's awesome Kathy!!! Love the new couple together!!! Sounds like everything is just perfect!!! Now your turn to plan a wedding!!! Dana did it, Lisa did it. So now your turn!! :) I have a few years before I gotta worry about that stuff. Tyler and Leanne's oldest Lindsey have been talking quite a bit lately.....LOL So who knows what life will bring their way!!

Thanks, Christie. I'll help however she needs me, but with me being thee hours away, I'm sure she'll count more on her mom and Markie himself.

What a wonderful Proposal !!! They sure do make a beautiful couple !!! :cloud9::hug::love:

Thank you, Rosie.

Congratulations to you all! That's a wonderful story and they make a great couple. :goodvibes

Thanks, Kate...I appreciate it.

Congratulations on the engagement! Markie proposed so sweetly, how could she keep from melting into a big puddle? I know it makes you so proud that he realizes that moment will be theirs forever and he did it right. Seems to me he's had a great example of what love should be by watching his parents through the years.

I melted and cried quite a bit when I got the phone call and saw the video.

You are very sweet.

Hello Miss Kathy!:goodvibes Just popping to say hi and see if there was any news. Good thing you have the engagement as an excuse for lack of update, otherwise people might start confusing you with...oh nevermind!;)

Gee, I wonder who you are talking about? :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I wanted to do an update tonight on the trip, but that won't happen. I'm exhausted after yesterday and just don't have the energy to edit the second part of the AK day. But I am going to post some pictures from yesterday.

Hi Kathy and Mary! Love the AK pics and seeing pics of FOTLK again - so love that show!!

Also congrats Kathy on the engagement in the family! Am so happy for you :goodvibes:

Thank you, Tanz. FOTLK is an awesome show!

Thanks for the congrats; we are all very excited.

What a great story! I got a little teary-eyed, too. :goodvibes They look great together. He picked out a beautiful ring, too.

Thank you, Tina. It sitll bring a tear to my eye; I never knew Markie had it in him.

Have a great weekend Kathy and enjoy this time because its really special!

Thanks, MaryEllen. We had a great day/evening.

Have a safe & fun trip this weekend visiting the happy couple! And Happy Planning! :goodvibes

Thanks, Amanda. It was fun and we talked about some wedding plans.

have a fun weekend with Markie and Alisha :goodvibes safe travels!

Thanks, Lisa. It was an uneventul trip--no traffic! And a fun time with the kids.

Hope you had a great St. Patrick's Day too.

I hoppe you are having a WONDERFUL weekend with your future DIL!!! And Markie!

Thanks, Judy. Hope you and your family had a nice St. Patty's Day. We had a great visit with the kids, and were able to give Alisha her birthday gifts (tomorrow she turns 21).

Smooshing faces mmmm that spunds familiar :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yes, I knew there was someone else here on the DIS who did it --and it is you, my friend, Rosie.

Just popping in to say HI! :wave2:

I hope you had a nice weekend with Marie and your future daughter-in-law! :goodvibes

Hi, Tim. Marie? Am I missing something that I don't know about? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We had a great visit, and I'm going to post a few pictures and recap of the day.

I guess my K keystroke didn't come though. You can obviously tell that I don't proofread my posts! :lmao::lmao:

I posted a request on my thread a few days ago about Info on Chigago for that trip with my Free People !! Check it out !!

Sorry I made you teary-eyeds (but at least it wa sa good teary-eyed and not when Marvie does it ;) ).

Oh, don't worry, I have thicker skin than that! Marvie can't break through it!

I don't know if Alisha thinks I'm so wonderful right now. I tried talking them out of doing something at the wedding reception and it did not make either one of them happy.

Why? What could you have suggested to make them both unhappy with you? Wait, you didn't tell them they have to invite Marv, did you?

And I will stick up for you any time I can with Marvie giving you grief.

Right back at ya sweetie! :thumbsup2

We had a great visit with the kids. We drove to Dubuque and arrived at 12:30. We picked Markie up at his house and went to the casino until Alisha got off work. Mark won $90, I won $100 and Markie won $75. So it was a great way to spend a few hours.

We went to get Alisha after she got home from work and showered. We said hi to her parents (we met them back in September) and met her grandparents and her sister (we met one sister in January).

We drove to two possible reception places. The first one I did not like at all. While the concept of such a huge room was great (it was the Dubuque Fairground's Grand Ballroom, they use long cafeteria type tables and NOT round tables. I didn't like that at all (and Alisha's mother agreed with me).

The second place is actually a Recreation Center, but it will hold 600 people and has two bars (one can be designated as pop and beer only while the other is for mixed drinks). The kids have 500+ on their list (Alisha has a HUGE family). They feel that about 350-400 will show up. This place is perfect.

I did find something out that is so differnet from Chicago. Unless you go to a REALLY fancy place in Dubuque for your reception (and I'm talking super expensive, especially with 500 people invited), they do not serve you. You cater the food in and you go up and get it. :confused3:confused3:confused3 But they have a caterer in mind from weddings they've gone to and are going to sample a few others.

I didn't get really good pictures of the room, but here are a few:

There is a balcony you can go out to for those who smoke, etc.:

The kids:

After that, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. My BahamaMama was great; Markie's Margarita was good and the food was AWFUL. We won't be back anytime soon.

After that, we went back to Markie's place to watch the NCAA National Championships in College Wrestling. his former teammate in high school took 3rd place at 133 pounds (way to go TONY!).

A few pics from the house:

Then we went bowling and Markie got very irate because he couldn't bowl worth a darn (and he usually kicks my butt and I beat him both games and he had to pay me $5!).

We had a blast at the bowling alley:

Before we knew it, the evening was at an end. Alisha had worked 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. this day and had the same hours tomorrow, and then a big 21st celebration dinner with her family tonight. They are hoping to come see us in May or June at the latest. I hate that they are 3 hours away, but I guess it could be worse.

We had a blast and love that they are so happy and so excited about their future.

Kathy - I have so much catching up to do on your TR but I wanted to comment on your weekend! How exciting to begin planning a wedding! Love the reception facility you found! It will be beautiful and amazing and what a beautiful couple. Again - the family love that is so apparent through just your pictures are heart warming and Alisha is a lucky girl to officially become a part of that family! Glad you had such a great weekend with them!

Now to go read chapters of your TR!!

I wasn't as far behind as I thought I might be.

I can't believe how wet it was at your MK morning. You didn't look too cold, just wet, but didn't seem to slow you down! :goodvibes

We had trouble deciding what suited our tastes at Sunshine Seasons, as well and ate at the Electric Umbrella. Kids stuck to the chicken, Eddie and I the burgers and it was okay - but I'm not a fan of Disney quick service mac and cheese either - or my kids for that matter. Sorry it was nasty!!

Seems that your morning at AK went well! LOVE the seats you got for FOTLK!! And I love even more that Cayley got to lead the lion section! Great memory for her (and you all, too)!!

I'm curious as to where you eat lunch with ALL the girls! ;)

Great pix of the happy couple and you guys !!!! I am curious to know what they want to do at the reception that you tried to talk them out of !!

Sounds like y'all had a very fun weekend! And that's great that y'all already found a place that'll work for the reception! :thumbsup2

All of the pictures are wonderful. I especially love the ones at the end with you & Markie. I hope Reid will still be close to me when he's Markie's age. Very sweet! :goodvibes

Ms. Kat, what an exciting weekend!! Looks like y'all had a great time. :woohoo:

Wow! Your future DIL has a huge family!! That's going to be some wedding!!! :goodvibes

I forgot to show you all what Mark and Alisha got me while they were at the Dells their engagement weekend:

Very cute!!:thumbsup2

Glad you got to spend time with Mark & Alisha and found a nice place for the reception.

Wow she must have a big family!! 300-400? people??:scared1:

400 people at a wedding. Holy Cow - that is a big wedding. Glad they found a venue that will work. Sounds lovely. Can't see you pics.

I think BWW's food is terrible. I HATE eating there. I think it is totally for teenagers and young adults. At least the drink was good. :goodvibes I guess that counts for something. :rotfl:

The surgeon I work with was actually AT the NCAA wrestling tournament this weekend. He used to wrestle and is totally into it.

Yeah for winning money! :cool1:

Kathy,

I have to come out of lurkdom. One to say I am loving your TR and two, my DH and I own a home just south of Dubuque in Bellevue. We love Iowa and love Dubuque. We plan on retiring there within the next 5 years.

I wanted to make some suggestions next time your there visiting. Not sure if you booked a reception site yet but look at this one.

I recommend this photographer! She's great not only did she do my son's senior pictures but also a family photo shoot this past summer. What is nice her prices are reasonable and you can order everything on line.

For a fabulos meal go here next time. The best salad and garlic bread ever!

If you want to stay at a great B&B look here. It may not look so nice from the outside but the owners are wonderful and the inside is breathtaking. There are the ones who inspired us to purchase a victorian home and rehab it.

Oh and here is information on Bellevue. It would be great to have a DIS meet if we are ever in town at the same time. Come down to the house we can go to a nice place for pizza! Or to the place mentioned above!

Glad you had a good weekend. Love Markie's KC hat. ;)
