Hello all, I am a long time reader but this is my first request for help. I have booked to stay at the Sheraton Vistana resort over the christmas and new year period and to cut a very long and boring story short it looks like my hubbie won't be able to drive which will mean we will be carless. Does anybody know Is this resort well servered by public transport, taxis etc or should I try and change to a more central resort any advise any one can give me will be greatfully received

Thanks

Dawn

First welcome to the DIS!!! The good news is anyplace can be serviced by taxi's, so as a last resort you'll have those.
Just a thought though-in a case truly like this you may want to look into on an onsite hotel. I am not usually all about always staying onsite. However, w/o a car it would make things 2 million times easier.

I believe that for a modest fee, there is a shuttle available from the vistana to/from the disney theme parks.
Perhaps you could contact vistana and ask them about it.
Or perhaps another diser will be able to offer some additional information regarding it.

I believe the resort charges $7 PER day, PER person.......depending on how many are in your party, that's could be an "ouch"!

Renting a car is almost a must, imo. But that's just us.

I'm not sure you can get an offsite resort with much better location. It's our favorite area.

And welcome to the Dis! :wave2:

Since you are staying during Christmas & New Year, on-site may be booked since it is such a popular time of year. Vistana is suppose to be beautiful and if it's just the two of you I would pay the shuttle fee to have the extra space. If one of you is able to drive, I would also consider getting a small rental car. Mousesavers offers some great discounts that may make it an affordable option. If not, think about how you want to spend your time and you can decide if off-site makes the most sense.

Pamela is correct, the Vistana shuttle is at least $7/person/day with limited shuttles in the morning and in the late afternoon/evening.

Dawn, as far as offsite resorts go, Vistana is pretty close to WDW. If it's just you and your hubbie, you might do better staying onsite, as the wdw transporation is very convenient---particularily during the very crowded holiday week when sometimes the parks close to only onsite guests. But things may be booked solid onsite by this time. We appreciate having a rental car at Vistana simply for getting around the resort itself, which is quite large. :moped:

Thanks everyone I was thinking of trying to move to a hotel on international Drive where at least we can walk to restaurants etc I am so confused it has already taken me 9 months to plan the trip with a car now to have to plan again without a car in 5 weeks ah well back to the drawing board.

Doesn't sound like you need a villa at Vistana since you're considering a hotel on International Drive ? Though you won't be as close to the wdw parks on I-Drive, it is an easier location to walk to places. Vistana is a little more isolated as far as walking to restaurants, though they do have 2 of their own onsite restaurants plus a Pizza Hut on site.
This is what's so convenient about staying in a WDW hotel when you have no car. The transportation is so convenient/accessible and alot of the resorts have food courts right on the hotel grounds so you're never far from any food source ;) . Since you're looking to book at such a busy time, I wish you luck in finding a room. Please come back and let us know what you decide. Sending some pixie dust for you :wizard:
