Sheraton Vistana and a car

Hi all

I am coming from the UK in August. I don't like driving in the UK at the best of times and so want to avoid driving if at all possible. My wife won't drive either. I have two kids - 8 and 10. Energetic enough, but not the biggest lovers of walking

We are staying at the Vistana on 8800 Vistana Centre Drive. I understand you can get deliveries or have your fridge stocked up, which would reduce the need for going to the shop.

So the question is - will Lyft and Uber do for getting to Disney Springs and the parks for rope drop? Will Lyft/Uber come to your condo or do you need to get to the entrance? Also, getting around the resort. I hear it is pretty big. Would it be too much to get a car just to get around the resort. As I say we'll probably only want to get to the nearest pool - otherwise happy to wait inside for Lyft/Uber and eat in the condo with deliveries.

Yes, Uber and Lyft are a pretty good way to get around the area. Pickup is generally at one of the security gates or the welcome centre depending on which is closer to your villa. On the return trip you will be able to be dropped off at your villa as you use your room card to open the security gate. The cost of the rides appears to be fairly good if you are not going at a surge time (park closing might be more expensive). And no, you will not need a car to get around the resort unless you are very sedentary. Most amenities are centrally located on either the North or South side (the resort is kind of split in two, see the map linked in the above thread, or just check it out on Google earth). I have never felt the need to get in the car to go anywhere in the resort, and we enjoy pool hopping there, it really is quite walkable.

There are 2sheraton Vistana’s. The one on international drive is the smaller resort that is very walkable.
the one in lake buena vista ( the one I think you are at) is very spread out. Ask to be near the marketplace, so you can walk to pick up things from the store.
I had a problem with groceries from instacart there. The driver either wouldn’t or couldn’t drop my groceries at the villa. The resort has a shuttle. So I had to call the shuttle to take me to the main area to pick up my groceries.

Just to clarify. There is the Sheraton Vistana Resort and the Sheraton Vistana Villages. We stayed at the Resort and found it easy to go from one pool to another without a car. Both are very nice resorts.

We are staying at the resort. It apparently measures about 0.5 miles at its widest and I've transposed that to our local neighbourhood. Seems manageable. Of course no reason why we would ever walk from one corner to the other and it seems each section has a pool. So with grocery deliveries and a nearby pool I suspect we'll manage. I will try to get a room closer to the entrance for Uber/Lyft purposes. Fact is, if we are going to be walking through the Magic Kingdom in boiling heat, we should be able to do a 5 minute walk to the Vistana entrance at cooler times!!!

Yes, it is a very nice resort. I much prefer it to the one on international drive. Its not a far Uber ride to Disney Springs or the parks. There are plenty of Uber Drivers that hang out in the area, so you won’t have a problem getting transportation.
