I just booked a room through Hotwire 3* for $44 and got Sheraton Safari, I've heard bad reviews what are your experiences? Good points and bad points, did I get a good price?

I think you will survive just fine. You got a good rate. Your expectations of the place should be commensurate with what you are paying, and I think it is.

Thank you for the reply Mike, you made me feel better, I hope I'll hear more people's opinions.

FYI The Sheraton Safari is under major renovations until Jan. 2012. They are replacing the safari theme for a more contemporary look to the hotel. You can find information on their facebook page.

Yes I know, we'll probably be there for a total of 12 hours, I read on their facebook page that they don't start construction until 10:00 AM

You got a great rate. Pool area is very nice. It is older and you might not have much of a view but it is a very good hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to pay $100 plus for a night there.....very close to DTD.

DH and I stayed there a few years ago. As OP mentioned, pool area was nice and the rooms are decent. I don't think you'll be too disappointed. Have fun!!

We stayed at the Safari last holiday season. The bartender did tell us that renovations would start in the fall of 2011. Our stay was ok. The Miller's Orlando Ale House is across the street.

Pool area is nice, jacuzzi in large and nice.

However, I would check lamp/alarm clock- our whole room was wired via extension cords- huge fire hazard we discovered this since our light would go off every time we wiggled the bed and our alarm did not go off one morning.

Otherwise it looked very nice and was clean.

We stayed at the new Fairfield Inn right next to the Sheraton Safari last week (10/23-10/30) and our room was on the third floor facing the Sheraton. Construction began at 7AM each morning, not 10AM, every day for the entire week of our stay. We heard loud and clear things being thrown into dumpsters, the beeping of construction vehicles backing up, and lots of banging. We were not thrilled!!!

I think you got a good deal. We stayed there 2 years ago for our first and last nights and we liked it. Not sure about construction though. I'm kind of sorry to hear they're getting rid of their safari theme; that was something we liked about the hotel. Pool area was really nice.
