I am looking for people's experience with getting upgraded at the Sheraton Safari hotel. Most of the posts I have read said that people were upgraded when they showed their SPG card. So what were you upgraded to?

I would like to get a suite at the Sheraton Safari. I am thinking of using my points. We are only going to Disney for one day post cruise (for a quick fix). We will NOT be doing early entry (the day we are going, AK has EE and we aren't going there.) Right now I have ONE night reserved at the Swan for 10,000 points. But I can get a suite at the Sheraton Safari for TWO nights for 12,000 points. I could get a standard room for ALOT less points at the Sheraton Safari, though.

Thanks for your input.

OK. I think I answered my own question. After I typed up the question I realized that 1. we aren't doing EE so staying onsite at the Dolphin really isn't that important 2. using 10,000 of my points on a 1 night stay seems like sooo many points plus I would still have to pay cash for a second night 3. we can get a suite at Sheraton safari

So, I called and cancelled my one night Dolphin reservation at 10,000 points and scheduled TWO nights IN A SUITE for 9000 points at the Sheraton Safari. Apparently the Safari Suites are considered a "Specialty room" (4500 pts. per night) and not a "Suite" (6000 pts. per night).

I am happy with my decision. I booked the room I wanted (suite) for less points.

Does anyone have a link to the website that showed the sheraton safari shuttle? I know we will have a car, but just want to see the shuttle times.

We were upgraded to a suite when we were there in Feb this year for free.
Think it was mainly because it was quiet / pre-season.
I can't remember the shuttle times as we used the car but, if I remember correctly, they were pretty good.

I reserved a standard room at the Sheraton Safari for a Friday night in June for 3,000 Starwood points. The Swan and Dolphin showed no availabilty at all, and I agree that it isn't worth the extra 7,000 points for 1 night there - even if it were available. I'm traveling solo, so don't need to upgrade to a nicer room.

We were upgraded to a suite on a Priceline bid, but we were Starwood Gold. I haven't actually heard of people getting an upgrade just for having a basic membership card, but I suppose anything is possible.

I pricelined the hotel for $40 last December 8th. When we got there I showed my SPG card and we were upgraded to the SPG Suite.

It was a slow time of year and we arrived at the hotel at 10:30 pm....We were heading over to the Swan in the morning...

I'm hoping for the same when we go this december! I may have to book directly though, there were 4 of us last December, my nephew is coming this year, so 5 in a room...that's tough! I may try and just use points to get the suite. Bedroom with 2 double beds and a pull-out couch in the living room area.

We also were upgraded to the suites when we showed our platinum cards. This was on a Priceline bid during Xmas 2003. No club lounge. Suite layout similiar to Embassy Suite : Sitting area with sofabed, TV, microwave and minifridge; shower/tub toilet; separate bedroom with 2 double beds, tv and balcony overlooking outdoor pool.

Pretty good location with lots of restaurants nearby. Downtown Disney also real close.
