Sheraton Hotels Questions

I am again trying to plan a trip to DLR this year, last time did not work out so great. This time it will probably be my daughter and myself.

We have two sets of reservations at both the Garden Grove and at the Sheraton Park. One of the weeks is the 11-19th of September and the other is for the 30th of October - 7th November.

So, on to my question(s).

Does anyone have any advice on which hotel is better? Both seem to be around the same cost for a shuttle. The Park I know we could maybe walk to and or from, but not the garden Grove - though it seems it would be quieter. The Park has worse reviews online, but as I said it is closer.

We have gone once before as a family, before my husband passed away and we stayed at the Castle Sheraton (i believe it has it's very own shuttle). Unfortunately, we can not find open rates for it during our preferred weeks.

Please share any information you might have that could help us make up our minds. Also, we booked the second week in October to see the Haunted Mansion overlay. It would probably not be open before our September week, right?

Thanks.

We love the Sheraton Park and I can honestly say we have never had a bad experience there. We always walk to DL and it's not to bad a walk.

We like Sheraton Park also. We had some SPG points to blow and are staying there in August to go see Cars Land. I really am partial to Starwood properties anyways but the Park is a nice offsite hotel that is an easy walk to the parks.:thumbsup2

DH stayed at Park for a convention one year and said it was very nice. We like to stay at the Portofino right next door and the walk isn't too bad, though at the end of the day its a bit long.

I've stayed at the one in Garden Grove a couple of times. Both times we had a rental car. I've never taken a shuttle.

I liked it. It's got comfy beds and flat screen TVs. The gym is nice and the staff is friendly. I never ate in the restaurant or used the pool.

The only thing I didn't like is the fragrance in the lobby. It's a REALLY strong floral scent they must pump in there. It was too much. It's similar to the string smells they have in some of the Vegas hotels.

Thank you for the advise. Still looking for more though. Each hotel sounds nice and so far we haven't found one big 'reason' for not staying at one over the other.

If any one has any other recommendations between the two please share.

We cocnstently book the Sheraton Park instead of the Garden Grove, even if the GG is cheaper. While our stay at GG was fine, it really is located at the end of the line with nothing to speak of nearby. Only if I was doing a mattress run or the Sheraton Park and Anaheim Sheraton were signficantly more expensive would I book the GG.

However, if walking to DL from the Sheraton Park would not be an option for your party, then you might try the GG. Even in that case, I would still prefer the Anaheim Sheraton over the GG. -- Suzanne

I've stayed at the Sheraton Park twice recently, and it is my #1 pick for offsite hotels! It feels like a posh, upscale hotel without being too snobby, the pool area is lush and beautiful, there are only two possible room views: Disneyland or the pool area, and the restaurants are great, with the snack bar being our go-to quick breakfast every morning.

But the best perk: it is directly across the street from the Toy Story Parking Lot! Not everyone knows this, but you don't technically have to park in the lot to use the shuttles, we used them at least twice a day last Oct, and were never questioned or even looked at funny! Just turn left from the hotel's front door, cross the street at the lights, and you are at the parking lot! Super easy, and it saves a lot of walking. So my vote definitely goes to Sheraton Park :)

I am having this exact issue and would love any input. I currently have 2 reservations for November 7th to the 14th at both Sheraton Park and Garden Grove.

My only issue is that I can upgrade to club floor at the garden grove not at the sheraton park....

I am travelling with a total of 7 (4 seniors, myself and 2 boys 15 and 6) . So we will not be walking even if we stay at the Park.

I am thinking the club floor makes it worth while because it is only an extra $30 a night for me per room. And I would not have to pay for internet. Plus the cont breakfast will hold us over till we get to the parks for lunch and dinner.

I am so torn and do not know what to do. I really want this trip to be amazing. We are coming from Canada and it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. We have done WDW but never California.

I was also thinking that we could stay wed to sun at the park and switch to garden grove for the last few days. We will be hitting fantasmic and woc and fireworks the weekend we get there. So really might be ideal !

Please help make up my mind....................

Wow thanks everyone!! I'm actually staying at the Sheraton Park on June 14th for all the grand opening stuff and just came across this thread by accident! Yeah I picked it because it sounded nice enough, not a bad walk and yes the Toy Story parking lot is near by so will be taking advantage of that!

Glad to hear people really like it. I wont be doing too much there actually! I will be mostly at the park with my friends, but nice to know it will be a nice place to stay! :)

OMG Thanks so much for this awesome tip!!! What a great idea!

That IMO gives a huge advantage to the Sheraton Park for the OP to consider. When we stayed at the Sheraton Park we walked to DL in the morning and then in the evening DH would walk back and get the car to pick us up, cause the kids were beat... but the Toy Story shuttle would be so much better!

We loved the Sheraton Park, stayed there on Starwood points, club level was a nice way to start the day, with a good breakfast spread. Our room had a great view of the parks looking onto DCA's backside ...what will soon be Carsland.

I also just booked at the Sheraton Park. I wanted to know if any one new there parking rate per day. Do they have valet service? TIA

According to the website, it is $16 for regular and $21 for valet. We have always been able to park close to the entrance of the tower in which the rooms are located. -- Suzanne

Self parking is $16 and valet is $21. Both have in and out but you have to get a pass for in and out with self parking

Good thread and timely for me. Can anyone comment on how large the rooms are at the Sheraton Park? I currently have a reservation there on points and a HoJo Kids Suite reserved for cash. Free is great, but we have two small children (1 and 3) and life is usually better if we have them sleep in a separate room. Sheraton has no suite or kid-friendly options from what I can tell.

We'll have a double stroller and plan to walk to/from the park. Which is a further walk - HoJo or Sheraton Park?

The Sheraton person I talked to on the phone was not so helpful and that kind of turned me off to the hotel. Looking for more feedback, especially from those of you who've stayed there with kids.

We would also be using the star hot rate. Each day our decision changes. We have had bad experiences with the employees at the park before (never been there, just them being rude in email and canceling our reservations). The grove looks nice but is farther away. The employees seem nicer (the Manager seems to reply to every review on Trip Advisory). We have been once before to DLR since leaving LA in the seventies in 2003, but had a driver (we will have no car) and another family along. This time it is a scardy cat girls only trip.

Now we can not decide between the two Anaheim hotels or going back to WDW. We know the Dolphin so well and can feel safe dividing and conquering there. We decided to make a monies spread sheet to decide for us only to have the difference between DLR and WDW be $155.
Onward to a pro/con list. What an awful problem to have.:)

If you figure out a reason to do one over the other please share.

I would say that HoJo's is closer for sure. There are not any suites that I know of at the sheraton... I supposed you could get 2 connecting rooms. The pool is nice but the HoJo pool is more kid themed.

Here is the link to a map that gives you a visual on where the hotels are in relation to the pedestrian entrance:

Also The Sheraton Park will not allow you to pay for an upgrade to the club floor only $30 for disneyview where as Garden Grove will allow you to upgrade to club floor for $30. I think I would rather pay the $30 for the cont breakfast and free internet.

I know it is farther away . Which travelling with a group of 7 kind of sucks so I think that is what is pulling me towards the Garden Grove so we can atleast start our day with the cont breakfast.

I know it is farther away but there is also a target literally right across the street from Garden Grove which may help with snacks for late night and souveniors for cheap.

I just really hope I am not making a mistake.

Please help make up my mind. ......

I'll just point out that currently the Sheraton Park is offering a 25$ per room/credit which can be used at their restaurants and room service.

I stayed at the Sheraton Park last year and was very satisfied. We had asked for Park view rooms with adjoining doors and they fulfilled our request no problem. The property was clean the pool area was nice and the restaurants provided a decent selection. It was about a 15minute walk, doable but towards the end of our stay we bought the ART passes.

I've stayed at the GG and really liked it!! The shuttels were very punctual and the staff was friendly. We ordered their room service a couple times and the food was very good. Target is right across the street, very handy if you need some necessities or snacks in your room.
