Me: 28, ex college program-er, 5 years since last Disney trip
Shell: 26, fiancé, always up for vacation, hates travel
Ok, here we go, May 5th, time to leave. A quick note; I had a blast this trip, even though things didnt go as well as they couldve. However, I plan on reporting the good and the bad, the ugly AND the smelly, so hang on, and enjoy the ride.
Okay, May 5th. Time to leave. All packed, house locked up, but wait, its only 6am, our flight doesnt leave till ..3pm? whos idea was THAT? (hint, it wasnt mine). Ok, go back in the house, chill out for awhile, re-check my luggage and this time pack more than one pair of socks. Check the weather, some rain today, but the rest of the trip looks great, low 80s little chance of rain woohoo!
I try and check in online with Song it tells me there is an error and to see someone, at the airport. Umm, ok, that cant be a good sign. So far song had been decent, I was looking at air prices, had decided to buy, but waiting till the next morning, they had gone down $50 a person overnight, so I booked them. Three days later, they dropped another $60 a piece, something like $90 with fees and everything. I called and got a credit.
Shell packs all the dogs stuff, I say goodbye and she leaves to drop him off at her moms (about 40 mins away). She gets back, I check the airline and the flight is delayed by 80 minutes or so. We leave in plenty of time, having never been to Hartford airport before. We got there in all of 25 minutes, park in the economy lot, and are waiting at the terminal way early.
We hit the cafeteria for lunch, having not eaten anything all day. Shell goes for some pizza place (disgusting was her verdict, I went to fresh city for a buffalo chicken wrap, it was ok, nothing special, and the cookie I bought with it was the highlight of the meal.) Finally the flight comes in, we get on. Song is a neat airline, they have little tvs for each seat. I had carefully chosen our seats so that we were next to each other, with a middle and aisle seat. Im a non-petite size guy, and Shell isnt large, but isnt tiny either. She definitely gets the short end of the stick when we fly, as the armrest goes up between us, and she gets crammed between me and whoever is on the other side.
Back to those tvs, which I thought were an amazing idea. The satellite feed is provided by dish network. They give you 24 channels or so. Once in the air we noticed (Shell specifically) that a good chunk of the channels werent coming in, mainly nbc, hgtv and the food network, all shells favorites .the flight attendant comes on and says the satellite is provided by dish network, and well, you all know how many problems the ones at your house have . What an advertisement for Dish, Im sure theyd love to hear that. Anyways, I enjoy the channels, and the customized music and such, for the 2.5 hour flight or so. Its now 7:30pm, the original plans for tonight were to get into the airport, grab disneys new magical express shuttle over to French quarter, check in, then head over to downtown Disney to activate my annual pass (we ended up going for a 10 day non expiring park hopper pass for shell, as shell probably be back, but I have some friends who just moved down and hopefully will be making a few trips this year), and then grab some dinner (my vote was either Earl of Sandwich of Wolfgang Pucks) .sooooo, anyone wanna guess what really happened????
