she has entered the car

A cut and paste from the Manatees website...this is old...I think from last night or something:
CAR SURVIVOR, DAY THREE: ANOTHER 48 HOURS?

07/14/04 - Heading into the third day of Car Survivor, we have three contestants remaining. Carlos, Darlene, and Will sit out in the car as you read this, and I can't tell what's going to happen. All I can say is that, given the afternoon sun and lack of air conditioning, it's a dead heat.

Also, please excuse the horrible pun.

It feels like a certain tension and weariness hang in the air with just a touch of uncertainty, like that split second on a trampoline when you stop going up, start coming down, and wonder if you're going to land on your feet or bust your head open on the corner. It's extremely unpredictable at this point, but I'll give you a few observations, and you can form your own opinions.

-The trash is accumulating. Rapidly. The empty seat in the car is hardly empty anymore, reserved for the bags of trash that have been stockpiling these past two days. It's like a new contestant has materialized out of all the bags of chips, jugs of Powerade, and sandwich wrappers they've discarded.

-Carlos looks lost. At times I caught him staring blankly into the night sky, half awake and half asleep, like the kid in the back of your math class your teacher always called on just because she knew he wasn't paying attention.

-Will is in good spirits. He's talkative, alert, and even mentioned that he smelled himself earlier. 'It was pretty gross,' he says.

-Darlene's growing a bit antsy. 'I desperately need this car,' she tells me. Carlos and Will look at her and say, 'she's never going to get out of here.' Although she may be annoyed with the boys, she's hanging in there and showing a keen sense of determination.

-The flies bother them during the day. Apparently this afternoon, the flies invaded the car and two of them mated on Will's arm. I told him it must have been like something on Animal Planet. He said it was really weird and somewhat disturbing.

-They're convinced sleeping in a tent every night is easier than staying in a car this long. And they're right.

-I ask them what the best part about being in the car is so far, and in unison, they answer 'the attention.' They can't get enough of it. Will smiles and talks about the ESPN radio interviews, Carlos gets excited over the television footage, and Darlene mentions all the newspaper stories. So if you're over there by the car, go talk to them. They like it. Just don't ask the same question as the person standing next to you. Apparently with the lack of sleep, the being confined to a tiny car for two straight days, and the fact they haven't showered the entire time, they don't like answering the same questions over and over. Color me crazy, but that makes sense.

-When I get down there tonight after the game, it's like a circus. Friends, family, random dudes from New Jersey, and anyone else you can think of all stand out there talking to them, laughing, telling stories, and carrying on. Darlene's on the phone, Carlos is sitting in the driver's seat talking to what appears to be his parents, and I think Will's joking around with some friends. I have no idea what's going on, but for some reason, I like it. It's quite the scene.

-I kneel down by the passenger window and talk to them seriously for a few minutes, asking them what it would take to get them out of there, asking how tired they are, asking if they really need anything. Carlos and Will tell me they'd leave right now for two hundred bucks apiece. They'd let Darlene have the car, they just don't want to leave empty handed. I tell them they should at least try to string it out until the end of our homestand, you know, for the attention. So if you're reading this, they'd love some money or a new car.

-The smell isn't bad. Yet.

-They all agree that sleeping is much easier in the front seats. 'You can lean your head on the open window,' Darlene tells me as she's stuck in the back with Will, both of them looking extremely tired and ready to get in the front for a nap.

-Darlene's shoulder is a deep crimson from sitting in the passenger side during the sunny hours today. I foresee some blistering. It's not going to be pretty.

-They claim they're not terribly annoyed with one another yet. They all said it isn't that bad, but they can see it getting worse very easily.

Even at 11:00, after two days in a car with little to no sleep, the four of us share a few laughs and have a good conversation. Nothing lightens up the mood like sharing horror stories about our respective quests. Honestly, at this point I wish they each could win a car. It's going to be difficult to watch them waste away in the summer heat knowing that they've already gone through this much. I wonder how much more of it is left.

That being said, I want to wish them all the best of luck, but they had better not leave before I get my next watch shift, because we had a good time joking around with them tonight after the game.

COME ON DARLENE - YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Please thank Darlene again for the Universal Brochures she sent me. I appreciate it so much. Getting SOOOO antsy to get there!!! Packed my Universal & Disney passes tonite - all clothes are packed - can't wait to go!

Did Will have to leave because he won the free cremation? Could he not be eligible anymore since he won something from the team, like he is only able to win one prize every 30 days or what ever their terms are?

Go Darlene! You can do it!!!!:wave2:

Did I read this right and they gave away a funeral service as a prize at a ball game? That is just odd and well...creepy  !!

Anyway, if it gets Darlene closer to her prize then that's all that matters. Still rooting for you, Darlene :Pinkbounc :bounce: !

Well guys Will has left because he won the free cremation that was the promotion for the days game. So now it is just Carlos and Darlene.

Watch, he'll probably sell it on Ebay to get his $200.00 he wanted to leave earlier!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow! I just found this thread thanks to Poohs Pal. I have been reading all the way through it sitting on the edge of my seat! Okay, the cremation thing...anyone else get the feeling that was just Will's excuse to get out of the car w/o looking like he was giving up? I voted and I would say vote-wise Darlene is in the lead since Will is no longer there. C'mon Carlos, give up! You are a teenager, for crying out loud. Darlene has more reason to need and deserve that car!
I am rooting for you Darlene! I know you can do this! ::yes:: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Btw, any more updates?

All right figured out the Will thing! Now, can Darlenes friend offer $200 to the other loser and get him out? Didn't her former boss offer both guys $100 earlier? I hate her having to spend all that time in there, and they are trashing the car!

Will is still winning in the poll, and he out being cremated? ;)

I voted. Let's go, PMS! Start talking to Carlos. Loudly!

I just voted from my work computer (voted from home yesterday! :teeth: ). Darlene has 33.6%!

Keep it up, Darlene!!

go with the PMS thing..my brother is 18 and will flip out and leav immediately anytime anyone starts talking about cramps!

Just voted using my sisters computer :teeth: she is at 33.7%
I think people are still voting for Will even though he has left.

can i say something really stupid?

her winning the poll doesn't give her the car - it's "Who will ultimately win the Geo Metro in the Car Survivor contest sponsored by Lathem Auto Sales, Inc. ?"

of course we all think Darlene will win it...but still! hehehe

and I can NOT believe that guy left becuase he won a 'cremation'.

that promotions director there needs some SERIOUS help...
