She Dodged a Hurricane, Skipped School, and Adopted a Porg, a September 2019 TR at Copper Creek Villas at WL (Completed 12/18)

I really enjoy the way you both input into the report.

Love the pictures on Main Street! Especially the one of the kids by themselves...it shows pure JOY!

I'm joining in! I know I've read a few of your reports in the past and I'm excited about another one!
Thanks, we're glad to have you back for this one!

Your trip is off to a great start! Your room at the WL looks awesome - what a great view of the central courtyard! I really enjoyed our brief stay at WL in 2016 and would be happy to return there one day.
We absolutely love WL, and this is probably our favorite room there yet. It's all a matter of preference though, and we haven't had a room there we didn't enjoy.

Wow, a ride in an amphicar AND a fireworks cruise?! What great memories! I'd love to try a fireworks cruise one day but I think it's unlikely with my small travel group. I think you're right that it's not a bad value with a bigger group.
It was a great trip for extra events on the water. While the amphicar was a neat bucket list thing, the fireworks cruise was a better deal, despite costing almost three times as much. Both are a fixed price regardless of the number of people, but more can enjoy the fireworks cruise. We didn't feel at all bad having less than the maximum people on the cruise, and now having experienced it we would even consider it with just a party of three. It was impressive.

You've had several great ADRs already. I've never eaten at the Boathouse but it would be right up my alley. I haven't been to Teppan Edo in years but I'd love to return once our daughter is a bit older. Crystal Palace breakfast is one of my FAVORITE meals at Disney - between the custom omelet station, the Pooh's puffed French toast, and the character lineup, it's such a great choice.

I'm excited to see what other fun you have in store!
We're excited to share the fun. I didn't think I would love Boathouse, and now I just don't see what anyone would have to complain about there. I think it would have appeal to one of the widest groups of any WDW restaurant. You listed all the favorites for Crystal Palace, and we can't wait to go back again in February. Teppan Edo is one restaurant we do more for us than the kids, but they always seem to enjoy it, and Marshall can eat his weight in noodles.

I really enjoy the way you both input into the report.

Love the pictures on Main Street! Especially the one of the kids by themselves...it shows pure JOY!
Thanks! We stumbled on to writing the report this way after our first family WDW trip in 2012. We both wanted to contribute, and enjoy reliving the trips through the discussions back and forth while we are writing it and then again when we revisit the report years later. We are always glad when other people enjoy it too.

The kids were feeling the WDW joy that morning, which sometimes doesn't happen on an early morning. Everything aligned for a happy morning.

After Peter Pan we were ready for some lunch, and crowd levels were picking up. Jon and Brandy headed back to Casey's Corner, while we went to Cosmic Ray's. We weren't super hungry, but wanted a little something with a cold drink and air conditioning.

Our biggest goal was getting in the AC and since we'd never eaten there before we thought we'd give it a try. They aren't really known for having fantastic food but we enjoyed having a nice cool place to sit.

We did mobile ordering which worked out fairly well, so we had our drinks and snacks quickly without waiting in line.

We tried mobile ordering for the first time and it was a little clunky. I do a lot of door dash and mobile ordering at home and I wasn't impressed with Disney's mobile order app.

I don't think it saves any time if there isn't a line, it's much quicker to walk up and talk to someone but it worked for our purposes. We plan on trying to do more mobile ordering in February if it works out.

I would definitely agree with that. After we cooled off a bit we left there right at noon and headed for the People Mover.

We were able to catch another glimpse of the Tron ride as we cruised around.

After the peoplemover we decided to wait for Monsters Inc laugh floor. Allie wanted a potty before we went in, and we found that you can get to the ones by the purple wall, even though part of the area was closed off for private events.

It is a great secret little bathroom that was super clean and had no line. The kids loved the laugh floor, it's a really cute show and even made us adults laugh.

Laugh floor was fun as usual, then we headed to our final Fastpass of the day for a picture with Mickey and Minnie.

Meeting with Mickey and Minnie was fun! It's nice that Marshall enjoys the characters and doesn't freak out like his sister did at that age. I'm glad we did it this trip too as it seems we're back to just Mickey at that particular meet and greet.

Yeah, and we never made it there last year, so it is cool that we got there this time. After the pictures Marshall crawled in the stroller and fell asleep while we checked out the stores on both sides of Main Street.

We then left the park at 2:17 to catch a boat back to the resort. We saw a big red flag boat leaving as we got to the dock, and the next to arrive was a smaller boat, so we folded the stroller and carried Marshall.

We got on the boat at 2:25, and got to WL at 2:35. With Marshall still asleep we went in the end of the South wing by the salon and headed to the room. We all hung out there for a bit, enjoying the room and the AC. We did find that a box of chocolates had been left in the room for us with a note appologizing for having to fix the door the day before.

After a while Allie and I went down to check out the mercantile and pick up our ornament. We walked around the resort while Marshall slept, and Melissa took a bit of a nap too.

A nap felt good and was rejuvenating. I don't often get to take naps, even on vacation.

In our travels we made it down to Geyser Point and picked up a Campfire Brownie. It was cute, and quite tasty, but pretty darn small for over $5.

We sat on the couch and hung out in the room. It was a nice break. We had a couple of rice crispy treats since the brownie wasn't enough to share.

When Marshall woke up he was hungry, so we heated him up some Mac and Cheese.

We wound up hanging out in the room until almost 6:00, when we headed down to the boat dock to make our way to dinner.

We watched the 6:00 Geyser as we boarded the Blue Flag boat direct to CR.

Once we got there the kids checked out the Sea Raycer mini boat, and Marshall showed way more interest in it than last year. I definitely saw one of these in our future.

Then we went upstairs and checked out all three gift shops. There's just something neat about the shops at the CR, and we always see unique things. Marshall was fascinated with playing with the plastic toy boats, which kept him happy and busy.

We didn't find anything we couldn't live without. We were on the hunt for a DVC luggage carryon but we didn't find it at any of the stores here. We were also looking potentially for a dress for Allison. She didn't pack the dress she said she was going to bring so she didn't have anything nice to wear for dinner. I knew it probably wouldn't be a huge issue but we were still keeping our eyes open. We didn't find anything in her size though.

Soon it was time for our trip upstairs, so we made our way down to the checkin desk on the 2nd floor. We got an escorted ride right up to the 15th floor.

We got upstairs and were impressed at the awesome view from the entire restaurant.

Our table was ready, and had a great view despite not being up against the window.

I had a hard time deciding what to order because I thought about sushi but then really wanted to try the filet but wanted the mac and cheese that came with the bison. I settled on the Filet and then swapping the potatoes for the mac and cheese.

I went with the filet and the potatoes that come with it, because I am more of a blue box mac and cheese person.

Allison was being picky and just wanted Chicken noodle soup so she got that and then Marshall got the kids mac and cheese.

Our timing was exceptional, as we were able to watch the sunset as we enjoyed dinner.

While it was obviously very nice we didn't feel out of place having the kids there.

I was slightly worried about bringing in our circus but it was just fine in true Disney fashion.

Dinner was delicous and the filet was exceptional. We have arguments over what the best steak of the trip was and for me Cali Grill beat Teppan Edo this time.

I still preferred the flavor and tenderness of the steak at Teppan Edo, but the overall restaurant experience at California Grill was very nice. I love how it was fancy but accomodating at the same time, and we felt very comfortable.

Oh funny story with Marshall at the restaurant. This will tell you so much about Marshall's personality. So for his drink he got and apple juice and it came in a cup with a lid and a straw, well he finished the juice pretty quickly and instead of filling the kid with more juice we had the waitress bring him a water. It came in the same type of cup. Well he started moving water from the water cup to the juice cup by sucking it up through the stra then transferring it into the other cup. We tried to get him to stop but honestly he wasn't making a mess or bothering anyone so we kinda just let him be. Anyway he got all of the water transferred into the juice cup. The waitress started cleaning up the table for dessert and took the original water cup. He was so proud of himself because he thought he tricked her. This kid is a constant source of crazy stories.

Since the kids had their dessert coming, we decided we should order desserts as well. Melissa and I shared the chocolate cake and Jon and Brandy shared the strawberry breakfast tart. I enjoyed both, but the cake was my favorite.

The cake was very good, I'm not a huge fan of lots of chocolate but this dessert was very good.

Overall I was very impressed with California Grill, and it surpassed my expectations. I would definitely look forward to eating here again, and while it was somewhat more expensive than most other meals, it was a great experience for everybody.

California Grill was my favorite meal of the trip. I really enjoyed being there at sunset and enjoyed that more than I think I would have enjoyed the fireworks. I for sure see this restaurant in our future trips. Not everytime but it's definatley on the short list.

We hung out for quite a while after dinner, but since it was a party night the fireworks wouldn't be until 10:15.

Jon and Brandy decided to stay and hang out at the bar, while I went with Melissa to take the kids back to the room.

There was no way the kids were gonna make it that late without major meltdowns so I decided to take them back and put them to bed.

We left the restaurant a little after 9:00 and stopped for some pictures with the metal Mickey statue on the way to the boat.

We got to WL at 9:30 just in time to watch the EWP from the boat dock.

After the parade I walked with Melissa and the kids to the room, then headed back to catch Fireworks from California Grill. The first boat to arrive was going to Fort Wildeerness, so I waited and got on the CR boat at 10:10. It got to the dock at 10:14, and I made a run for the escalators to get upstairs as the fireworks were starting.

With my receipt from earlier I secured my trip up the elevator, and I got up there just a few minutes after the show started. Jon and Brandy were inside, and I said hi before heading outside to get some shots of the show.

The view from outside was impressive, and had a more open feeling than the Top of The World Lounge balcony. Here the railing was less substantial, and the shape of the building meant you were way out near the edge. I don't thik Melissa would have enjoyed it out here, but I thought it was great.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that the cruise is more my speed.

Hey, at least here you wouldn't have to do the wavy bridge to Bay Lake Tower... Really though, while I enjoyed seeing the fireworks from up high, I preferred the show from the boat as well. It was great to have two nights of super fireworks views though.

I'm pretty sure I was asleep before Paul got back to the room. It was the end to what was another fantastic day at Disney.

We left after the crowd died down from the fireworks and made our way to the boat dock to get a boat to WL. I got a nice reflecting picture of Geyser Point on the way in.

It was after 11 by the time I got to the room, but was a great day.

Did you enjoy the Sonny Eclipse show?

By this time you'd had the idea about getting "Boats are always better" printed on an ornament. Did you do that for the ornament you got on this day?

Overall I was very impressed with California Grill, and it surpassed my expectations. I would definitely look forward to eating here again, and while it was somewhat more expensive than most other meals, it was a great experience for everybody.
I like your sunset view. It is better than fireworks. We will have to try it some day. :)

I love Marshall's water trick. It is almost like a science experiment.

That sounds like a great way to watch the fireworks - much better than having to try to watch them while eating dinner.

I've only been to Cosmic Ray's once in recent history and had a Greek salad. If that's up your alley, I thought it was quite good and fresh!

Your meal at California Grill looked delicious! We had a so-so server on my last trip there, but I've always enjoyed excellent food. The ambiance and the view is awesome, too! I'm so glad you liked it!

Did you enjoy the Sonny Eclipse show?
We thought Sonny Eclipse was cute, and Allie actually got up and danced around some. It was fun watching her decide whether she was goign to stay seated or join in, and then she just got up and went for it.

By this time you'd had the idea about getting "Boats are always better" printed on an ornament. Did you do that for the ornament you got on this day?
No, the ornament we picked up was the one we had ordered when we were in Disney springs on our first night. Since the personalization takes some time, we just have them ship it to our resort when it is ready, then we get it a couple of days later. We generally only do one custom ornament a trip, otherwise we'd need a bigger house...

I like your sunset view. It is better than fireworks. We will have to try it some day. :)
It really is worth a visit. It wasn't as expensive as we thought it might be, and didn't wind up being the most expensive meal of the trip. The ambiance and views were really neat.

I love Marshall's water trick. It is almost like a science experiment.
Yeah, it kept him busy, and he was really quiet about it since he was being "sneaky". It worked for us.

That sounds like a great way to watch the fireworks - much better than having to try to watch them while eating dinner.
It really was nice. I would definitely try for a pre-sunset reservation when eating here, and then plan to just hang out or come back for the fireworks.

I've only been to Cosmic Ray's once in recent history and had a Greek salad. If that's up your alley, I thought it was quite good and fresh!
We just shared soem traditional Disney chicken nuggets and fries, and enjoyed the cold Cokes and air conditioning. It was about what we expected, standard park quick service, but we liked that we ware able to easily get a spot inside, where at Casey's Corner we would have been outside since it was getting crowded.

Your meal at California Grill looked delicious! We had a so-so server on my last trip there, but I've always enjoyed excellent food. The ambiance and the view is awesome, too! I'm so glad you liked it!
Ahh, that makes a big difference. Our server was great, she was friendly and efficient, and always seemed to be right there with whatever we wanted. Our negative opinions of the old Artist Point come mainly from poor service, and that is hard to overcome.

Sounds like another great day!
It was another fun day, and there are still so many more to come. It is hard to pick a favorite, but this one did have some of the best food with two great ADRs.

Sounds like another great day!
Did you see a moonlight magic was added for DCA for next month? I am going to try for tickets.
Yes we did! We are definitely going to try for tickets as a do-over for the event we missed last year because that was the night Melissa had her ankle surgery. We really want to go, and will be registering as soon as we can on that Tuesday. We'll let you know if it works out, and maybe we'll see you there.

California Grill is amazing! It’s nice that you can enjoy an upscale restaurant with kids and not feel out of place. Gotta love Disney! Unfortunate that the fireworks were so late that night, but it’s nice that you all got to see them on the boat together. We’ve done the pirates and pals cruise and the illuminations one, but never that one. It looked amazing, and do convenient you didn’t have to leave your resort. I was just watching a video on all ears YouTube where she was touring WL and trying out that campfire cupcake. It was so cute, and she said even the little marshmallow on the the little stick on top was toasted. My DD wanted to try it in late November when we’re there next. It did look small though. Looks like you guys had another magical day!

I’ve haven’t been to disboards for a couple of weeks, but I’m all caught up now and following along! We’re a little over 30 days to our 11 month window for our October 2020 CCV stay! Love your TR as always! Those were some oustanding photos from the fireworks cruise!

It really is impressive how they can have a restaurant so nice and yet welcoming to the family at the same time. We all had a good time.
At WL they have the campfire cupcake at Roaring Fork which is a good sized cupcake with the toasted marshmallow. We got the campfire brownie from Geyser Point which had similar decoration but was a lot smaller.
We did have another great day, but it’s hard not to at WL!

Welcome back. We’re glad you are enjoying this one as well. I bet you can’t wait to get that October 2020 room booked. Our 2020 trip will be February, so we will be skipping the fall trip next year. It should be neat for you to be there this time next year!

This weekend we decided to take a little side trip on Saturday. When Target announced the new partnership with Disney, we were excited that one of the first 25 stores to have an in store Disney store is about 30 miles from our house. Since we had some time, a Disney addiction, and will take any excuse to go to Target, a road trip was in order.

Some might think we're crazy but we were curious so we hopped in the car after lunch and headed down there.

Traffic was a pain, but that's normal. We got there and were excited to see what was there.

Ironically this week Target also released a bunch of Frozen 2 merchandise and that area was at the front of the store as we walked in.

It was a small section next to the dollar section in front of the store. After a few minutes I was afraid that was all they had, and I would have been quite disappointed.

But alas after venturing down the entrance isle a little further we saw the gigantic spinning Mickey head in the center of the store.

There was even a big TV playing Disney videos, making it an official Disney store.

They had a good selection of toys and costume dresses. They even had some super cute Mickey and Minnie Christmas sweaters.

Allie was glad that they had something besides Frozen stuff, but they didn't have as much stuff overall as she wanted.

Overall I think it's a decent addition to a Target store, definitely not a substitute for a trip to a regular Disney Store but nice to have access to when you also need toilet paper.

We probably won't venture back down to that Target on purpose unless we're down that way anyway.

I did buy Marshall a pair of Stitch pajamas, they are really cute.

I'm glad we made the trip, and while we were there I got a clearance deal on a shovel. You can't say that about the regular Disney store.

True, my favorite granola was also on clearance. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled trip report!

On Monday, I got up at 5:20 and went out to take pictures. I took some more of the lobby, then headed down to Roaring Fork.

I got there right at 6 as a crowd gathered waiting for their beverages. I filled my mug and sat outside to upload some pics to the Dis. Then I walked down to Geyser Point to watch the sunrise.

For my first time of the trip I walked to the South side cabins, and saw where the road was blocked off for Reflections construction access.

I got to the room by 7:00 and Melissa was awake, and then got up to shower. Marshall asked her to babysit him, "because I can be a handfull". At least he realizes it.

We got up and out of the room after grabbing quick breakfasts.

We ordered some mini donuts from Garden Grocer and they were quite popular with everyone. I also had a Cliff Bar. We got down to the bus stop at 8:08, and the sign showed a bus at 8:12, which got pushed back to 8:15. It arrived, loaded ECVs, and left at 8:21, but went directly to AK so we got there at 8:36.

We had a quick easy security check, and then were able to use the AP line to walk right in the park.

Our first stop was Kilamanjaro Safaris.

Most of the early crowd was still heading to Pandora, but we knew we'd be there later in the day. We walked right on the ride and had a great driver, Marley.

The animals were nice and active in the morning, and we got to see a lot of them.

Marshall said "I can't believe I saw a real Giraffe!"

I always enjoy the giraffes, but this time the Rhinos were really cute playing in the mud.

The rhinos were ridiculous rolling in a mud pit and then they came around the corner runnning toward us. They were having a great morning.

We stayed on the truck as it circled back to the lower gate where we got on, probably so that guests were returned to where they had left their ECVs, but it was something cool and different. The different drop off meant we were really close to the Gorilla trail, so we went ahead and walked through there. Marshall was excited by all the fish.

Allie got a great view of the Okapi:

After the Gorilla trail we hoped on the train to Rafiki's at 10:15. Allie and I took a quick snooze, although it wasn't long enough for a real nap.

We were glad to get to go back here, since we missed it last year and then it was closed for a while.

They changed the entrance a bit.

After the still long-seeming walk from the train we were ready for air conditioning and restrooms, and we went straight into the building. It turns out though that you can no longer continue into the building from where the restrooms are, since that is the exit for the new animation experience.

You have to go back outside and around the building to enter over by the petting animals.

Which is really kinda strange considering it's probably a common first stop for people getting off the train.

Once we did make it inside, we saw that they were perfoming a live surgical procedure on one of the animals.

They had gotten a couple new goats for the petting area and one of them needed to be castrated.

Instead of performing the operation the way most other goats are castrated this one was receiving the royal treatment in true Disney fashion.

I still feel sorry for the poor guy.

He was completely under general anesthesia and the procedure was performed just as if they were removing any other organ.

If something is to be done, especially that, I’d make a big deal out of it too. The kids wanted to pet the animals, so I took them outside for a while.

We headed out before they even started the surgery because we had a fastpass to get to. Besides at this rate surgery wasn’t going to be done until after lunch.

Our fastpass was for Flights of Passage, so we knew we had some travel time.

We hopped back on the train at 11:07 and headed back to the mainland.

We were able to take the shortcut from Africa to Pandora and it wasn’t crowded but was still pretty warm. When we got there at 11:24 we got a baby swap pass since Allie didn’t want to do it and Marshall was too small.

I rode it with Jon and Brandy, and we had a bit of a wait but enjoyed it.

This is one of the few rides that gets me a little motion sick, but it was neat to experience without worrying about Allie like last time. Next time I’d let Melissa do it though.

I hung out in the shop with the kids because of the AC. Allie talked me into buying her one of those necklaces you make in the store and Marshall picked out some little Pandora animal toys.

By the time we got off the ride it was 11:51, so instead of having Melissa, Brandy, and Jon ride it we headed to our lunch ADR, which was at Yak and Yeti.

Read about our lunch and the rest of the day in our next update...

Your pictures of Wilderness Lodge that morning are amazing! Your pictures of the lobby turned out beautifully and I love your sunrise picture!

You had a great start to your morning in AK! I'm a big fan of the early-morning safari, too. I also enjoyed my trip to Rafiki's Planet Watch in 2016. The highlight for me was meeting Chip and Dale (who I believe are no longer there), but it was interesting to try something new.

Glad you had a great meal at California Grill. The fireworks pictures are beautiful.

The okapi is my favorite 🥰 ! Glad to see a picture of it in your TR.

That's strange how they changed the entrance at Rafiki's. I can imagine it would be especially annoying if it's raining. I've always wanted to see them doing a surgery there! We saw them lasering a bird's feet one time and giving a sheep nebulizer treatments but never an actual surgery!

Overall I think it's a decent addition to a Target store, definitely not a substitute for a trip to a regular Disney Store but nice to have access to when you also need toilet paper.
Did the Disney section at Target have discounted prices for the Disney merchandise?
Marshall asked her to babysit him, "because I can be a handfull". At least he realizes it.
That is very perceptive of him. :)
Marshall said "I can't believe I saw a real Giraffe!"
The giraffes and other animals on the savanna look the most like they are in their natural habitat. Elephants, lions, hippos, etc, look like they are in a cage at a zoo.
Instead of performing the operation the way most other goats are castrated this one was receiving the royal treatment in true Disney fashion.
I didn't realize they showed surgeries like this. We have to stop by there during one of our cooler weather trips.
I hung out in the shop with the kids because of the AC. Allie talked me into buying her one of those necklaces you make in the store
I like Allie's necklace and can see why she enjoyed making it. :)

Thanks! I just love taking pictures at WL, and can't ever take enough. It is fun to have somewhere to share my favorites.

We like AM extra magic hours at AK, even though we are never there for the start of them. We skipped Rafiki's last time and were glad to see they kept it open. We liked seeing Chip and Dale there too, but instead had to wait a couple more days till we visited them at Garden Grill.
Glad you had a great meal at California Grill. The fireworks pictures are beautiful.
Thanks. We all really enjoyed it, and appreciated that we didn't feel out of place. We will be back!

The okapi is my favorite 🥰 ! Glad to see a picture of it in your TR.
Okapi are Melissa's favorite too. It was neat to see one up close. We got to see them running around at the San DIego Zoo Safari park a couple of weeks ago, and that was cool.

That's strange how they changed the entrance at Rafiki's. I can imagine it would be especially annoying if it's raining. I've always wanted to see them doing a surgery there! We saw them lasering a bird's feet one time and giving a sheep nebulizer treatments but never an actual surgery!
The new animation thing takes up a lot of space inside the building, so there isn't room to walk past it when it is going on, so I understand why they did the change, it just takes some getting used to. There is definitely less open space inside now to just hang out. We too have wanted to see a real surgery there, and it was neat.

Did the Disney section at Target have discounted prices for the Disney merchandise?
The prices were fairly standard, but the items were some of the same ones you would get at the Disney store. It was too new to have anything on clearance yet, but I would expect better deals if the stuff doesn't sell.

The giraffes and other animals on the savanna look the most like they are in their natural habitat. Elephants, lions, hippos, etc, look like they are in a cage at a zoo.
Yeah, we like the open look of the habitats where they can do it, and the Giraffes do have it really nice. They are just so impressive to see.

I didn't realize they showed surgeries like this. We have to stop by there during one of our cooler weather trips.
It was our first time getting to see a real procedure there too. We have heard about it, but never had the right timing. It is a nice option, even on a warm day, because the area you watch from is nicely air conditioned.

I like Allie's necklace and can see why she enjoyed making it. :)
It was really cute, and she enjoyed wearing it for the rest of the trip. The animals worked out well for Marshall too, because they kept him busy at lunch...

By the time we got off Flights of Passage we had just enough time to head to Yak and Yeti for our lunch. We left Pandora at 11:51, and got to Yak and Yeti at 12:01.

Being the height of the lunch rush it was pretty busy, but we got checked in and were able to wait inside in the air conditioning.

The decor here always facinates me, some pieces are downright scary. I would love to know the story behind them.

It is an interesting place. We got our table and were seated at 12:15. It was nice to have a table in the corner that was big enough for all of us.

Our waiter was fantastic and gave us a couple dish options that were going to come into seasonal rotation soon.

I chose one of those which were scallops with a street corn base.

I decided to stick with my old favorite here, the ribs. I really enjoyed my ribs, but unfortunately the french fires were overcooked to the point of not being good. I have never sent a food item back, but I really came close to asking for better fries.

You probably should have, they were pretty bad. My scallops were amazing, so delicious. If I had to fault it for something it might be that there was so much going on it was kinda hard to taste the scallops but really it was my favorite thing I've had here ever.

That's ok, the fries meant I saved more room for dessert, and this was a restaurant where we each ordered dessert.

I got the Mango Pie which I didnt even get a picture of before taking a bite. I love this stuff.

I got the cream cheese Wontons, which are definitely one of my favorite desserts. I love how the ice cream blends with the sweet sauce from the wontons. Mmmm.

It was a great meal, and held its spot on our must do list. We did have a unique issue with the DVC discount, they only applied it as a 10% discount to four of the entrees, not the entire bill or even all the entrees. We still enjoyed the cool break and look forward to coming back.

Our server gave us large to go cups, which made me a happy guy.

For sure we really enjoyed those drinks to go.

After lunch we headed to the tiger trail, and were able to see a tiger quite active, and right up close.

We also got our annual picture of Allie with the painted tiger, which she happily agreed to pose for this time.

I think she's enjoying watching herself grow now and realizes how fun the comparison is year to year.

Then after the tiger trail we got to experience another attraction for the first time. Yes, we finally got to ride Kali River Rapids!

There was not a cloud in the sky and it was HOT. Thank goodness we had fastpasses because the line was pretty long and the whole thing is outside.

It was quite a change from last year when we missed this due to thunderstorms. They were experiencing some sort of delay when we got in line at 2:15, but the fastpass line moved pretty well and we were able to get on pretty soon.

The kids weren't too sure but it worked out fine.

They were both afraid of getting wet so we broke out some ponchos, and I wrapped both backpacks in a poncho so nothing would get soaked.

We had a pretty uneventful ride and didn't get too wet at all. It is very much luck of the draw, as some people did get drenched.

We fared pretty darn well though and it was a fun ride. I really liked it and thought it was great.

After that our timing was perfect to walk to our Expedition Everest fastpasses. We did do a baby swap for this one, and Brandy, Jon and I rode it first forllowed by Melissa and Jon.

We got our swap pass setup by a cast member named Allie, and her and our Allie chatted about sharing a name.

I think Allie would like Everest if she rode it. Maybe we'll get her on it in February. Sweet Brandy offered to watch the kiddos while Paul rode with me but they were at each others throats while I waited for them and I didn't want him to have to referee.

While Melissa and Jon rode I waited with the kids and had to separate them. It was hot and they were cranky. After they rode, we made our way out of the park through Dino land and then meandering through the shops on Discovery Island for a little AC before we made the trek to the buses.

On the way out we saw an anteater, my college mascot.

Fighting Anteaters are super vicious

We left the park at 3:27 and got to the bus stop at 3:31 as a bus left. The breeze and shade were nice but it was pretty hot.

A bus came at 3:50, then had to load an ECV and left packed full at 3:57, and unfortunately the AC wasn't working well on the bus.

I swear the heater on the bus came on. It was the worst bus ride of the trip but we survived.

When we got to WL at 4:15 we were all hot. We walked up to the Mercantile and shopped for a bit while we cooled off.

We got up to the room at 4:40 and decided to go down and swim. I brought my little waterproof camera so I got some shots of the kids having fun.

It was a much needed swim. We were all HOT.

We started with the Boulder Ridge Cove pool, then moved over to the main pool and the kids rode the slide.

We hung out with Jon and Brandy on the side of the pool opposite the slide for a bit, then we made our way up to the hot tubs in time for the 5:00 Geyser.

My ankle really enjoyed the hot tub once again. I was super pleased with my mobility for the trip but relaxing and the hot tub definately helped.

We swam until about 5:30, then went up to the room to get ready for dinner. We had been discussing the Keys to the Kingdonm tour, and called to see about availability but the wait on the phone was over 30 minutes, so we decided to stop by the front desk.

There a very nice CM found that there was no availabilty for three of us to do it, but that they had spots for two on Friday, so Jon and Brandy made their reservation. We all looked forward to hearng about it, and we were super happy with how easy it was to book at the front desk.

The tour sounded like a lot of fun and we were excited that they got to do it.

We then went down to the bus stop and saw that a Disney Springs bus wasn't due until 6:54, which was almost 30 minutes away. That was all the motivation Melissa needed to decide to book a Minnie Van.

I really love the Minnie Van transportation option. I know it's expensive but it's so nice that it's so direct and nice and cool, and music, and carseat, and they can also drop you off in unconventional locations.

And it wasn't our last Minnie Van of the trip... In this case we had them drop us off at the Cirque De Solei side of Disney Springs so that we could walk through and see areas we don't visit very often.

The plan was to snack around Disney Springs for the evening. The biggest flaw in this plan was that we were HUNGRY.

Our first stop was the food trucks, where we tried a cookie dough dessert taco we had seen online.

It was ok, but not something I would want to have to finish on my own, it was just too sweet. A little went a long way.

After that we made our way to Chicken Guy, which we had all been wanting to try.

My take on it was that the chicken really wasn't that exceptional. Some of the suces were good, but you only get to pick and try the ones you pay for. (I had it in my mind that it would be like D-Luxe burger where you can try all the sauces, but it doesn't work that way.) I really enjoyed the loaded fries, and would eat them again, but it just wasn't food that I would go out of my way for, either at Disney or at home.

I would for sure not recommend the avocado sauce. Being from California we eat avocados a lot this sauce was pretty terrible. Overall I was disappointed with the chicken but the loaded fries we got were pretty tasty.

After dinner Jon and Brandy went shopping, and we walked around to cover the rest of Disney Springs. We stopped my Morimoto street food, but were now too full to try anything. We didn't know where Homecomin was, and finally found it. It was nice to fill in the unknown areas and connect the dots between places we had been.

We did make it to the Sprinkles cupcake ATM, and got some dessert to take back to the room.

We also spent some time checking out T-Rex, where we had never been. As parents of a young boy we figure we will eventually have to eat here, but he was happy just to check out the shop this time.

He was just a little freaked out at the animatronics.

We wound up at Uni-Glo and were impressed at the size and relatively low prices, but didn't find anything we needed. We met back up with Jon and Brandy there, who had been at the watch store negotiating on a really nice watch. We walked over to see it, and then went to the bus stop.

The watch was beautiful, really an art piece.

We got to the bus stop at 9:18, and the bus came at 9:33 but loaded quickly and made it to WL by 9:53. We were all tired from the jam packed day and headed up to the room and soon went to sleep.
It was a super long jam packed day but we had so much fun. I remember my feet just being done at the end of this day.

Looks like another great day! Yak and Yeti looks amazing, we somehow have never eaten here, we always end up at Tusker House for the characters, but dying to try it. Yes, with your son you’re probably in for a few meals at TRex. My youngest son loves TRex, but it is SOOO loud and the food is mediocre. And those mini vans can be a God send, especially when traveling from resort to resort. But they are expensive

Looks like an overall good day at AK. I finally tried Yak and Yeti on my last trip . Enjoyed it and will be back . I also tried Chicken Guy. I thought it was good not great . Would probably go back at some point but I still have several more DS places to try first .
