i have tried EVERYTHING, ladies, EVERYTHING and nothing works.

i am VERY pale and no matter how much i shave, you can still see the hair folicles....basically the hair UNDER my skin. nothing seems to really work.

a few years ago Curel had this lotion out that seemed to actually help out, it was called Smooth Legs, but it's been discontinued so i'm out of luck with that.

tanning doesn't work. i don't tan. and...i mean that i can be out in the sun for hours, and i get no suntan. i get a little pink on my shoulders and my nose, and then it goes away the next day.

i can't afford to do the spray tanning all the time. and i've tried the Jergens lotion that gradually tans you but that doesn't really do much for my legs, either.

HELP!!! any advice?? tips??

I probably could have written that. I'm very pale, dark hair, don't tan out in the sun

I've come to the conclusion that it's probably a lot more noticable to me than other people, so I've stopped worrying about it. Doesn't help you with a solution, but know you're not alone! And you're probably the only one who notices it :)

Maybe waxing would do the trick? Since it rips the hair out from under your skin?

That was going to be my suggestion. You'd get at least a week without any visible follicles, and then when the hair does grow, it tends to be less noticeable because the ends aren't blunt.

The only downside is that you have to wait for some regrowth before you can wax again.

the only thing with waxing that i'm worried about is my skin is already SO sensitive as it is....i'm afraid waxing would make it worse.

Is the hair dark? Maybe you could get lasered?

well if i can't afford to go tanning constantly, i definatly can't afford to get it laserd off ll

Hi!

Is the full name of the product that you are looking for, "Curel Lotion Smooth Legs - 9 ounces"? If it is, a website named MedShopExpress states that they have limited availability at $7.22 per bottle.

The direct link to the product is:

yep, that's the one! thanks! i'll have to favorite that and see if i can order a few bottles!!

My daughter & I are also pale and we share the exact same problem with you.

I always see it this way - if anyone is looking that closely at MY legs, they deserve to see my imperfections!!!!! :goodvibes

You can see the hair follicles through your skin? Wow, you must be transparent!

Just kidding, my whole family is fair skinned, except for me. People constantly think I'm Italian or Mexican. I would go for the waxing, eventually it'll kill the hair follicles and you won't have any to worry about!

I have the same problem. But getting a nice smooth shave helps, as does using Vaseline Clinical Therapy lotion which is the only thing that makes my legs not itch. Itching them seems to make everything more noticeable and irritated looking. I've found a different gradual tanning lotion that I like better than the Jergens - it's harder to find but I think it's by Queen Helene and it has Mango butter or something like that. Anyway, it smells 100x better than the Jergens and doesn't irritate me as badly. I don't use it very often but if I have something I want a little tan for I'll use it in the few days up to it.

I am the same way, and I am not even that pale. When I shaved under my arms, you could see a "shadow" of the hair.

With waxing, I had problems with ingrown hairs...especially in my...um...nether regions?:confused3 Then, because I am so pale, I would scar...it just was not attractive.

SO...I did laser hair removal and it was worth every penny. I am telling you...for someone like yourself I would not even consider it a luxury. I went to a place called Ideal Image (it is a chain here in FL, not sure if it is nationwide) to do my bikini area. It was 1k but I opened up a 0% interest for 1 year credit card and then paid $80 a month for a year, then closed it. I went every 10 weeks for 8 sessions. yes, that is a year and a half...but after the 3rd time, you really see results.

It worked so well, I did my armpits, also about 1k. I forgot how I paid for that one...might have been part of a tax refund check.

Anyway, since I have had it done, I have heard a few horror stories about burned skin or other side effects, but nothing bad or even unpleasant happened to me. I cannot sing the praises of LHR enough! So...it might be something to look into eventually. Wish it was around when I was younger.

How often do you shave? If you shave daily or even every other day, you won't get as close of a shave and you will have this problem. I am very fair skinned as well and have never had this issue. I also only shave about every 5 days or so and even then you can't really see the hair. Shaving the longer hair gives you a closer shave. Try going a week without shaving and see if you get a better shave after that.

Every five days?!!! If I'm going out in the evening, I have to shave my legs for a SECOND time that day since the stubble grows so fast. In five days, the hair would be over 1/4 in. long (and since I'm also very pale, but with dark brown hair, it's very, very obvious!),

I do find using a good quality razor and shaving cream/hair conditioner allows a much closer shave, and sometimes I can get away with not shaving in the evening.

Like the PP, I've also gone the laser route for the more...um...delicate areas. If I were younger, I'd definitely consider going that route for my legs. I had fantastic results in six treatments (very noticeable improvement after three), but then I'm an ideal candidate with the pale skin and dark hair. It's certainly something to consider.

Shaving just doesn't work that well for me.

Which is exactly my point, by leaving your hair to grow a bit longer you will get a closer shave and not NEED to shave twice in one day.

Ok, I just popped into this thread and now you've convinced me to get laser hair removal on my bikini area/legs. :thumbsup2

When my son was in the Emergency room a couple of years ago, a doctor grabbed his ankle and stared at it. Then she asked us, "Is this the way his skin always looks?"

I stared at my son's leg. I didn't see anything other than the dot, dot, dot of little boy hair follicles (he hadn't started getting hairy yet). "Uh... I don't know? I guess so."

"I'm worried this may be the beginning of a rash," said the doctor. "We should keep an eye on that, because if it gets worse over the next hour, it could be a sign of infection."

Two hours later, she came back and took another look. "Well," she said, "looks like this is just his normal skin type." Then she looked at us and said, "Oh, right! You're all dark haired people."

:rotfl:

Honestly, I don't think this is the kind of thing that's worth wasting any time on. The only people who have perfectly smooth flawless skin are department store mannequins. Even models in magazines are airbrushed.

Odds are no one is staring at your follicles. They probably can't see them anyway, unless they've got their nose right up against your ankles.

I've been told many times that I have great legs, and I've never tried to make the follicles disappear. I don't even shave every day, unless I've got a big party to go to.

Oh... but what *does* make a big difference in the appearance of my legs is using a moisturizing soap and staying well-hydrated. Otherwise the dry winter air can turn my skin red and scaly, and that's NOT pretty.

Have you thought of using an epilator? I've been using an epilator for close to 20 years, my leg hair is now very, very fine and sparse. I can go weeks without epilating and the hair is still not very noticeable. I do admit it was painful at the beginning but you do get used to it..

However if you have the funds, i'll definitely go with laser. I did my underarms about 10 years ago and it's the best 1k i've spent!!!

btw, i'm asian with dark coarse hair. When i shaved in my teens and early 20's, the stubbles on my legs felt like sandpaper!!

:lmao: my husband tells me i am all the time, actually lol! but yeah, you can actually see the hair UNDER my skin.

it's weird tho, because the ONLY place that i have that problem is my lower legs. above my knee i don't have any issues at all!

omg i was thinking the same thing!! "5 days?? it's summer....i don't need insulation!" :lmao:
