Saw the leg shaving thread - just this past weekend a friend was very upset because her 16 yr old dd started shaving her arms. Seems the dd says it's 'the' thing to do at the high school.
Any one else seeing a trend toward this? I had never really heard of it - but she also has quite dark hair and said she was self-conscious about it.

ok - i can deal with shaving my legs and arm pits on a daily basis...but throw arms into the mix and forget it!

I don't find "arm hair" all that gross though...of course, mine's very light...but even so...it seems more acceptable to me then hairy legs/armpits. you know?

Most hairy teen boys who work out shave the outside of their arms-and other parts.:p

It's been the 'it' thing since I was in HS at least. Girls (or most of the ones I know anyway) want to be as hairless as possible, except for what's on their head (of course) and so that dictates shaving or waxing just about everything else..arms, legs, you name it!

I'm sorry but I'd rather keep my hairy arms than have stubble on my arms. It's enough trouble to keep my legs presentable.

I can't stand hair on girl's arms, so yes it is a good idea.

That's why they make wax, dear. ;) Waxing keeps you stubble free for a month to six weeks. :)

And I know what you mean...I usually shave m'self and I've had a time keeping my legs smooth and shexy since I got big enough where I can't hardly shave anymore. It's a challenge right now and I cannot WAIT till that goes away. :teeth:

I shave my arms all the time. I personally really dislike women with hairy arms unless it's blonde but even then...

You dislike the women who have hairy arms?? The woman? You dislike the woman if her arms are hairy? or you dislike the look of hairy arms on women??

Oh my!!! I had never heard of this before!!!! Well except for the swimmers!! Most I heard were people bleaching so they wouldn't be so dark... never would have dreamt of shaving my arms!!! Legs are bad enough :p

 Are you freaking serious? I meant hairy arms on women I'm sure everyone else got what I meant.

Wow, I've never even heard of shaving your arms, arm pits yes, but arms?

The hair on my arms is so fine and blonde you can't even feel or see it. But I guess if someone had really thick dark hair and didn't like it they could wax it but I can't imagine shaving them.

My nephew has been shaving his arms for the past 3 years. He will be 17 in May & say's its what everyone is doing. Which of course, I respond with the usually "If you friend jumped off of a bridge would you??"

Kids

wow i've never herad of this. it definitely wasn't done in my high school. my arms are not overly hairy and are blonde though so...

I don't think I started shaving my arms until one day I was at work a couple of years ago and this guy reached over the counter and petted:eek: my arms saying "I love it when a woman is so....natural." This totally freaked me out and my arms have been mostly hair-free ever since.

and don't you wish whoever started making hairly legs unacceptable had not done so? I believe most of us find hairy legs unattractive, but there is no logical reason other than custom for us to feel this way. Think of the hous we would save each year if the custom had never started.

Perhaps you should go live in Europe, where not sh aving your legs/pits is more acceptable, faithinkarma. ;)

Actually my husband was born in Europe and would prefer that I not shave. But it is just too ingrained in me, I cannot let it go. Even though I realize it is only what custom and habit dictate, I don't like the way hairly legs look. The good news is that the older you get the slower it grows :-)

Where/why was it said that it's acceptable for men to have hairy legs and armpits but not women?? I'd like to know where this torture all began! ;)

I got enough to do without shaving my arms. I do shave my toes -- I hate the hairy hobbit foot look. I also shave my fingers from the knuckle to the tips. I pluck the heck out of my chin and everyone once in awhile.....oh never mind!
