Sharpies or Fabric Markers

I want to get pillow cases signed on my upcoming DCL cruise. However, I don't know if I should go with Sharpies or Fabric Markers. I seem to remember reading in the past that there was a benefit of using one over the other, but I can't seem to find the thread.

Suggestions? Which one works best? I seem to remember that Sharpies might be brighter initially, but the color lasts longer with the fabric markers. Is this correct?

Thanks!

I have fabric markers for pillowcases and sharpies for paper. I used a Michael's coupon for both to save a few $$. The Sharpies can fade over time moreso than the fabric markers. The instructions may require heat setting on the fabric markers, but that isn't a hard thing to do.

I'd recommend fabric markers for use on fabric--however, read the instructions. Some work best on 100% cotton, so if your pillowcase is 65% cotton/35% polyester you may not get the best results. Others require heat setting--ironing with a press cloth. If so, be sure to do this before you launder the item.

I would do fabric markers, our sharpees ended up bleeding really bad and fading with the wash.

We did the pillow cases for our cruise in August of 2009 and used Sharpies. The only signature that is left is Daisy. She must have used a fabric marker. I will definitely try those next time!

FYI
Sharpie does make a fabric marker called a SHARPIE Rub-a-Dub LAUNDRY MARKERS. They are available at Staples :)
