Does anyone know how to get sharpie marker out of the carrpet? DS found a green one somewhere and started coloring. At least I caught him before he got too far but there are two lines about 2 inches long on my beige carpet so it definately stands out. I know they call it the terrible twos but I'm convinced this is the terrible sixes between his coloring and practicing cutting with scissors:scared1:

I don't really know if it would work or not but I would try Goof Off first, and also I would try this stuff called Totally Awesome that can be found at Walmart and the dollar tree. It works great, because I got lime green nail polish out of carpet with it. I'm not so sure about sharpie though. I wish you luck!

I laughed out loud, OP! My DS is six too and cutting little pieces of paper up all the time and coloring everything. He even cut the back strap of his brand-new crocs. And he seems to be climbing on everything lately.

Anyway, I got red Sharpie out of his shirt last week using a combo of clear hand sanitizer and then vinegar/baking soda. Pretty sure the hand sanitizer really did it and I don't know why I tried it... It was right near the sink. Anyway, his favorite dinosaur shirt is just as good as ever. Good luck and report back.

Spot shot carpet cleaner. Our grocery stores carry it. I've used on marker, paint, even nail polish. Might require more than one try but I bet it will work. Do Not wet carpet or rag before using. And blot, don't rub.

I second the Totally Awesome cleaner. I get it at dollar tree & family dollar. I would use it straight not diluted, that stuff really is amazing!:)

Hairspray will also get ink out of fabrics. Spray liberally, and soak up the color with a paper towel. I know it works great with ink from a pen, and I believe it will work with a Sharpie, too.

Hairspray worked for us.....black sharpie on a light beige carpet.....

Thanks everyone for the advice. I don't have anything on hand so I will go out in the morning. I'll let you all know what works.

I wonder if a Magic Eraser would work... I'm scared of what must be in those things! They get EVERYTHING out!

Anything with an alcohol base. Blot don't rub. Cheap hairspray is a good choice because it won't run and make it worse. I used it past week when my 6yr old son wrote his name in Sharpie on my 15yr old's white Disneyland sweatshirt. :faint:

eta: I used an old cloth diaper to blot with. Very absorbent and easier to work with then paper towels.

I would try Totally Awesome too. that stuff gets anything out. FYI - the magic eraser works great on doors to get "art projects" off. My son took a black sharpie to our bathroom door, magic eraser is the only thing that worked.

I second the above suggestions! Hairspray or rubbing alcohol works well at getting ink out. I haven't tried Totally Awesome on ink, but it's gotten lots of other horrid things out of carpet and fabric, so it's worth a shot, too. I also have a cleaner called Goop that I got at Dollar Tree. It has helped with regular pen. Not sure about Sharpie.

Thanks for all the tips. I went with rubbing alcohol because I already had some on hand. I poured it on and blotted with a towel and it came right out. Yeah!! Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it!
