Hi all,

When we visit Florida next summer, I am quite interested in doing the Shark's Deep Dive. I don't mind paying the money to do this as I imagine to get so close is an amazing experience, but I am more concerned about having to leave my wife to cope with our young kids for 2 hours! Is this experience as good as I would expect it to be is my question? How long are you actually down in the cage for, not long I would have thought, so what takes up the 2 hours? Thanks in advance. Steve

Hi Steve,

SimonV and I did the Sharks Deep Dive two years ago and thought it was a terrific backstage tour. Part of your time is spent with an orientation (what to expect, info about sharks, how to get your dive gear on), then you suit up and are taken to the shark reef. You have a short lesson on what to do once you're in the cage (for example, don't hold on to the bars! Use the handles INSIDE the cage instead). Once you enter the cage, the real experience begins, and it's quite astonishing! First, the pressure of the tank is a real surprise. Then, as the cage slowly moves across the tank and back, you have an amazing view of not only the sharks and fish, but also of the guest inside the tube and even into the Sharks Underwater Grill.

Some of the sharks come right up next to you and you can see their eyes sort of turn to look at you. We also had a big fish join us in the cage, which was kind of interesting.

I don't remember how long the full tour in the tank lasted (an hour?) but it flew by. We would have stayed down there all afternoon if we could have.

Afterwards, you are given some toiletries so that you can shower and freshen up (you've just been in a shark tank, after all.....). Then you get your cool T-shirt and time to ask any questions.

We would certainly recommend it. Maybe Mum and the tots would enjoy a show and lunch during the time you're on the tour? Or some time at Shamu's playground?

Hi Cleo,

Thanks for that, it sounds great, I'm quite surprised you get so long down there. Hopefully I'll be able to do it.
One other thing, if I am going for it alone, will I go down by myself in the cage, or be paired with someone else?

Thanks

Steve

I'm honestly not sure, but I'm guessing if there is another guest who wants the tour, they'd pair you up. Even so, there is plenty of room in the cage and you'll be so into what you're seeing you probably won't notice the other person much, or you'll be doing the 'thumbs up' with them again and again.

It's worth doing. I don't want to build it up too much and have you be disappointed, but we thought it was terrific! :thumbsup2

Thanks cleo, I really appreciate your help. You haven't spoilt it at all, just got me more excited about experiencing it!
