I am about to start a fitness program for 8 weeks with coworkers
you earn points based on weight loss and exercise etc
it is a team thing and weekly weigh ins are necessary
we have a team captain and 3 other women besides me on my team
I am the heaviest of the 5 on my team
my closest friend on the team has told me she weighs 145 and wants to lose total of 15 lbs (she is short)
captain says she weighs in the 160's
3rd member captain said told her she weighs in the 170's (tall)
4th person I have no idea on except that she's not that heavy probably in 150-160's
so here I am at 259
obviously they can look at me and see I weight alot more than them but it's hard to admit
I have the option to have the nurse weigh me and keep weight a secret but the team wants to weigh in as a team for support

I'm afraid since we are being so open that everyone will know what I weigh and I'm not proud of that
I was up to 310 at my heaviest so this is really hard for me
on one had I'm really proud of how far I've come but I have so far yet to go
Would you share your weight with coworkers?????
I have first weigh in on 5/6/04

I wouldn't have a problem with it... but to me, it's always just been a number. (Admittedly, a number that made me angry and frustrated, but still just a number.)

One factor that would probably influence me, though, is the attitude and spirit within the group. If it's a trusting and supportive team, no big deal. But if there's a competitive "Diva" spirit to it, then I would be more hesitant.

Wow - that's a toughie I think. Like you I would be hesitant but as KathyTx said if the tone of the group is one of support and acceptance - no matter where you are starting from, like here, I would probably do the weigh in with the group. I have always had a hard time sharing my number. :o Even now when the number is one I am more happy with the only people who know my weight are my hubby and my WISH buddy. However when I get to goal :teeth: I'll be walking around yelling it our for everyone. It sounds like you are getting ready to begin a great program with your coworkers and I wish you lots of luck for lots of success!! :goodvibes:

I think I have the most public weight loss in the history of weight loss! Everyone at my job is "monitoring" my progress. Yes, it's easy to look at me and plainly see I am over 200 pounds but I don't share what my starting weight was or how much I currently weigh. When I am asked how much I have lost so far I don't mind sharing that.

If you find the spirit of the group makes you a little uncomfortable sharing your current weight, could you just give them your weekly loss so it's included in the total for the group?

I wish you and your coworkers much success during your 8 week program!

If it was me...I'd want to keep my weight private. You all can weigh in as a team but keep the team on the other side of the scale where they can't see each other's weight. The nurse should be the only other party that knows everyone elses weight.

I'm proud of you for wanting to and volunteering to participate. It sounds like a great competitive motivator for you and your co-workers to become healthier. Good for you!

best of luck,
Laurie

I wouldn't have a problem with sharing what I weigh now, but there is no way that I would have shared my weight before I'd lost quite a bit. The first time that I posted my weight on WISH it was a really difficult thing for me to do. However I think that you have to look at how sharing or not sharing your weight is going to affect you. Whether it will be a positive or a negative thing. Right now from what I read it sounds like it is causing you some stress. I don't think that the others have to know what you weigh in order for you to support one another. They just need to know how much you've lost every week! So do what you feel comfortable with :hyper:

I wish you every success with this new endeavour. Go get 'em girl! :flower1:

There are very few people I'd share my weight with but there are two close friends at work who are also struggling with their weight who know. I'm right there with you and don't really want to reveal the true number to anyone but my WW leader and receptionists.

I'd weigh in with the nurse and let them celebrate your weight loss with you as you give them your totals each week. I'm sure it will be a great program for you because support at work is as important as support at home for me.

Good luck!

The only people to know my weight are the WW people, me and my doctors. My DH doesn't even know what I weigh.
