I believe I've read that many people have shared meals...as in ordering one meal and splitting it with another member of their party.

Are there ever any problems in doing this? Can it be done everywhere? Any restaurants that will not allow it?

Thank you.

DD and I do this everywhere, including Disney. The majority of the time they will split the entrees between 2 plates for you before bringing it to the table, though I have had it happen where they just brought out an extra plate. I've never had any problems doing this anywhere.

What about two adults splitting a meal?

It doesn't matter, but dd is 11 and considered an adult by Disney's standards...

We do it all the time at Disney, and we're both in our 20s. We've never had them split it in the kitchen, though, always just brought out a separate plate.

We just got back early this morning after a 10 night trip, DH and I. We shared at Wolfgang Puck's, Marrakesh, Teppanyaki, Chefs de France, Sci-Fi and San Angel Inn, there is just too much food when using the plan. There is no problem sharing, all the servers were really nice! Just tell them before you order, that you intend to share if you are using the dining plan. :flower:

Thanks. We're not actually on the dining plan because we've got a bunch of gift cards for various other restaurants...both at DTD and off-site (and a visit to Emeril's planned), so the dining plan wouldn't be worth it for us. But hubby and I tend to eat smaller meals so at some places we might like to share one meal and maybe an appetizer instead of two full-size meals.

I know that some places have smaller portion sizes than others, so sharing won't always be the case anyway.

I know I'm stating the obvious but you can't share at buffets and other all you care to eat restaurants.

Some restaurants have a sharing or plate charge but AFAIK the only restaurant in the WDW area that has a sharing charge is Shula's at the Dolphin.

Yeah...buffets we won't be sharing. That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? :D

At CSR a few years ago, my DW and I split a breakfast at Pepper Market -- I think it was an omelet plate. There was no way we could each eat a whole one anyway. The CM split it right at the grill for us, and gave us an extra biscuit! Normally only 1 is included. I think he even gave us a few extra home fries -- and just split the omelet down the middle. Best part is, we just got charged for one meal.

My mom & I (two adults) split our lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern...we told our server we wanted to do this when we ordered and they split the food before they brought it to us. There was still plenty of food for the two of us.
We plan to do this again in Jan! :flower:
We were not on any type of dining plan.
Enjoy!

We often do this in our family. Good to remember to tip as if you had ordered two adult entrees, however.

We had to do this during our last visit. My kids (12 & 10) are too old for the kid's menu, but don't eat enough to justify buying each of them an adult entree. We really wanted to try the dining plan for our upcoming stay, but there is no way the four of us would eat as much as the plan provides. When having to pay adult prices for everyone, I think it would be a much better value for us to use the DDE/AP/DVC discounts instead.

I always split meals at disney. I just can't eat it all! The portions are too big for me at Disney. If it is just me and DH we either order two apps and one entree, or one appetizer and two entrees. When I go with my DH and Dsis in December, we will likely get 2-3 appetizers and 2 entrees between us. We are not big on dessert (unless it is a cheese plate--yummm...cheese!) We always order wine, and occasionally before or after dinner drinks, and tip well, so the waitstaff isn't missing out.

We do it all the time. I ask for an extra plate at both CS & TS & they've always been very nice about it. Some TS places have even split the meal for us before serving. A lot of the portions are large (for us), and we like to save room to indulge in all our favorite snacks & sweets at WDW!
