Sharing Meals

I have two questions.

Firstly, I am not a big eater (therefore the DDP last year was a waste on me -__-) and neither are my sister or my grandmother. My sister and I already know that there are several Quick Service options (mostly at MK, but some at Epcot) that her and I can share and still feel satisfied. We are carrying our own snacks into the park, but to cut costs we are trying to find a way to do so at some of the table services restaurants. My question was, what are some good restaurants at all the parks for two adults to be able to share one main entree/meal? For example, I know this is not something that is easily done at BOG, but at Sci-Fi dine-in I can easily share a burger/sandwich with someone.

The second question is though, how accommodating is Disney with meal sharing at table service restaurants? My grandmother is concerned that this won't be easily done.

You can't share for any buffet, family style, dinner show or dining package (F!, JB/ROL).. You can share at a la carte restaurants. If you're concerned about portion size being too small, you could consider sharing the entree but each having an appetizer.

Gosh, just about every location except for AYCTE restaurants would probably work. The portion sizes across the board are pretty big and I've never heard of a place that discourages sharing. Seems like I remember a restaurant or two that charges for plate sharing, perhaps Teppan Edo is one of them. A way around this would be to order only appetizers since they are expected to be shared. You wouldn't even need an ADR if you are willing to eat in the lounge, if one is available at that restaurant. My favorites are Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge, Tambu Lounge at the Poly, and California Grill at the Contemporary.

Its weird because considering how I eat you would think I would be discouraged from eating at buffets, but I usually prefer them! Yes I don't probably ever get my money's worth, but it works out so much better for me because I eat exactly as much as I want.

I thought about the appetizer thing actually (I think it was Hacienda de San Angel Inn, I saw that I was drawn to the appetizers more than the main meals! lol), I would probably order an additional side where possible to supplement whatever we share.

We've been able to share at many TS restaurants where you order from a menu and since you are paying Out Of Pocket it should not be a problem so your Grandmother should not be worried. Some restaurants will divide the meal in the kitchen while at others the server brought an extra plate and we split it ourselves.

You cannot share and everyone will be charged at buffets, family style all you care to eat meals, fixed price meals (CRT, Akershus), dinner shows (Hoop De Doo, Spirit of Aloha Luau, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue), dining packages (Fantasmic, Jungle Book, Candlelight), special events (Dessert parties, F&W special events) and the Family Platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Disney World is very accommodating at the places where you can share food (others have given you the limitations). My husband share a meal a lot since I am a smaller eater. What we did find, however, was if the meal is split in the kitchen (many are), you each will get half the entrée but usually just about a full portion of the side. So a burger and fries would be half the burger and the rest of the plate would be filled with fries. We found this out at Sci Fi where we were thinking, since we really didn't want that many fries anyway, we'd just get half each. Nope. We moaned when we saw how many :) So, not only is Disney accommodating, they make sure no one goes hungry.

Last December my DDIL, a friend and I spent 5 days in Disney. We purchased the DDP and shared most of the time. We generally ordered 2 meals to split between the three of us and found that we were satisfied with the amount of food.

Disney is the easiest place I know to share a meal between two people, just tell your server when you order and many times the chef will split the meal in the kitchen. As others have pointed out, there are exceptions, but if you want to enjoy a character meal while you are there, time it so you can get by with two meals that day. In the end, your money will still be stretched. I wanted to add that BOG is a great place to share, especially if you are having breakfast or lunch. The portions are generous.

Thank you guys! I feel alot better now knowing it won't be an issue, and even slightly hopefully if the meals are divided in the kitchen.

Our only character meal will be an Ohana breakfast (which was DH's must do), so seeing its a buffet its not so bad. We are not doing any parks that day (only shopping) so it should hopefully tide us over until an early dinner or something. I know even when I got meals at Pop's food court (which is where we are staying) I really struggled to eat my whole meal.

I only thought BOG would be hard because when I had dinner there (which is what we will be doing this time), the meal portions were just enough for me. It was actually one of the only meals I was able to finish off.
