Sharing meals

Since DH and I are planning to go with a more relaxing pace this trip, I'm considering booking multiple table service meals a few day instead of the normal one. My concern is that it would be a lot of food, and it would kill our food budget. That being said, if we wanted to share meals, are there any restaurant that tack on a fee for a shared plate? What are the best places to share a meal, and what are the worst as far as portion sizes? TIA, our 6 month window opens up in less than 2 weeks, and I want to get everything figured out!

Our last trip we got a burger from Liberty Tree Tavern in MK and split it. (crazy, but I hadn't had a burger our whole trip and all of a sudden I was craving one) It was our last day, and we had already eaten enough food. When it came out I asked our server if it was in fact 1/2, the thing was HUGE!!! She said, "yes, our burgers tend to be large". Our plates were full, I just could believe it. There was no fee for splitting our meal. Awesome too, if I might add. This was the only place we split, but she didn't blink an eye when we requested it.

My DD and I split almost all our TS meals at WDW. We've never had a problem at any restaurant. We've split a cheeseburger and fries at SciFi, pasta at Tutto, Pot Roast at Prime Time, Filet w/mac and cheese at Jiko, a flatbread appetizer at TRex (as our meal), etc. I find that the portions are large enough that it makes sense for us to split some of our meals.

If you look at the food photo thread here on this board, you'll get a pretty good idea of what makes sense to split.

I prefer sit down dining because it offers us a chance to take a break.

BTW, you can't do this if you're on the Dining Plan, I believe.;)

I was hoping to share a plate of crab legs with my 4 year old. He's not a mac n cheese kind of kid. But he doesn't eat very much either. Does anyone have a shared plate experience at Fulton's they could tell me about?

Many thanks

Thanks for the replies, we're not doing the dining plan this trip, so it sounds like sharing would be a good way to keep our food budget in line.

My daughter and I share ts meals most of the time. When have done this being on the DDP and also not on the DDP. We have never had a problem or been charged more at any place. (I always make sure to tip as if we had ordered 2 meals.)

Please note no sharing is permitted at buffets, all you can eat family-style restaurants (like 'Ohana, Garden Grill, or LTT dinner), fixed price, fixed menu restaurants (like CRT or Akershus), or dinner shows. Also, you can't share the all you can eat skillet at Whispering Canyon Cafe. For any of these you will be charged per person, not per meal.

And the current reports are that yes, at most a la carte restaurants you can share on the dining plan. Beaches and Cream apparently doesn't allow it but other restaurants do.

Thanks, I didn't think we could share at buffets. How great would it be if you could though, I could see huge families coming in "We'll all be sharing the buffet this evening":rotfl:
