For my upcoming trip, DH and I will NOT be on the dining plan. My parents and sister will be. We are going to have some TS's with them. Will my husband and I be able to share an entree with each other when we are eating at the same table as the rest of them? I'm not trying to mooch off of the rest of the family's food, just sometimes DH and I want the same dish and the portions are pretty big usually... (ie. if the family wasn't there we would still pick to share something) but I don't want to get into any trouble! :)

Thanks for sharing any experience or knowledge you have with this! :D

We do it every trip, unless of course you are at a buffet meal, then it is always one or two credits per person, regardless.

Sorry for the confusion but I mean that we will NOT be on the dining plan.... the rest of the family will. So we won't have any credits to spend. Just cash. But I am worried they will not let us share because they will think we are eating off of the food from the dining plan people in the group.

Maybe this is a better way to phrase the question. Will they make cash diners order their own meals if eating with other dining plan people?

Phedre, I think you will be fine. We actually were staying with friends at a DVC resort last summer. All of the Dining credits were on everyone's cards. So they really didn't care WHO used them. I was a little worried, because we had to constantly track our family's credits, so we didn't use the other family's credits! People pay OOP all the time for certain meals, so you don't have to worry. Sharing is not a problem. Your server should confirm this. Enjoy!

They are catching on to the using of others dining credits. Now they will not allow any more credits at one time that is on the card. So if a family of 6 goes to eat and the card only has 4 credits that is all they allow. Also sharing of food is being cut out of most places. You still may get a server to do it, but from what I have read they are starting to get strict about that..

Just got back 3 adults on DDP, 3 adults plus 1 child NOT on DDP for a total of 7 people.

We ordered 5 appys (3 on the DDP) We put them all in the center of the table and we all shared.

We even had it worked out so that the 3 on the DDP were the most expensive. My dad ordered crab cakes, I ordered Mussels, and my mom ordered Calamari- we were on the DDP.

My 2 sisters (not on the DDP) ordered 2 Caesar salads. They did the bill for us and put the 3 most expensive meals on the DDP.

Nobody said a thing :) Granted even after computing the 281 we saved from the DDP for the 3 meals, we still managed to spend close to 500 more bucks in cash :) I doubt they would say anything knowing they were getting close to 800 bucks for 7 guests :)

I HIGHLY doubt though that they would have allowed the 3 of us to get full meals, ask for 4 plates and split it all up btwn us and the non DDPers.

We split the appy's but we ordered 5 and 3 were on the DDP, so we paid OOP for 2.

Plus, we all ordered main meals, along with 4 desserts (3 on the DDP).

I doubt that sharing appys and desserts is an issue but to make a ressie for 7 guests and only order 3 meals and split them all is probably gonna be noticed. (using us as an example).

I would say that as long as each adult guest purchases a main meal, and the rest gets split you should be fine. Just don't be nutz about it asking for 6 extra plates and such :) We just used our bread plates to share things.

I think that the OP is pretty clear that they will NOT be using the credits from the DDP. Their concern is that if they are paying OOP, can they share a meal, and let the DDP people do their own thing.

To the OP, I believe that with your separate check you'll have no problem doing your own thing. You can order one entree, and split it between you and your DH.

The only time it gets funny is if you were to want to share with the DDP people, and you were pretty clear in your 2nd post that this was NOT the case.

Go, share, have fun!!!
