Yes we are on the dining plan, yes I know sharing meals is usually ok except for buffets. I am looking for specific experiences of sharing at the following resturaunts. Was it good or bad? Problems, crappy or wonderful cast member experieces...do you just ask and they split the plate for you or bring an extra one? I will be tipping extra, I always do...I was a server once in college too :goodvibes TIA
CRT 6:55 dinner
50 Prime Time 4:30 dinner
Teppanyaki 12:00 lunch

I don't believe you can share a meal at CRT; I think they've gone to a per-person pricing system.

You can share at 50's Prime Time and Teppanyaki, but I personally think Teppanyaki's portions are too small to share.

Before being on this website, i'd never really seen people share meals before. Why is it that so many people want to share meals at Disney World? I'm just confused. Is it that expensive compared to other restaurants in regular everyday life? On the menus I've seen, it really doesn't look that expensive. Or is there another reason?

Totally off topic, but I'm a Caroline from CT, too! :goodvibes

When we did the Dining Plan last year, we ending up sharing a lot because it was just so much food. It wasn't about expense or even trying to save credits. When our family would go to a TS restaurant we would all get an appetizer, entree and dessert. There are 4 of us and that is a LOT of food. We would never order that much in a restaurant normally. After the first day or two, we realized that we did not need that much food and started sharing at every meal. We were much happier because none of us were tempted to overeat (which you do not want to do when it is so hot).

People share meals everywhere, not just at WDW. Portions are huge at many restaurants these days. It's either share a meal, or throw away a lot of food.

If people share more at WDW than elsewhere, it's because the current WDW dining plan provides an appetizer, a large entree and a dessert. I can't eat that much, and my wife can't eat even half of it. Why make people prepare, serve, and then trash extra food we know we can't possibly eat, for no reason? It does nobody any good.

When me and hubby go out at home, we rarely share, because we can bring leftovers home. We have 20 & 21 YO Boys still at home, and they'll eat anything!! So, I guess we are sharing, we just share with our boys that don't eat out with us. But even at home, we each get an appetizer, and by the time we eat that, and scarf on whatever bread the restaurant usually has, we eat about a 1/3 of our entree, and WE ARE FULL.

At WDW it is almost impossible to bring leftovers back to the room with you. (That is unless you go to eat, and take the stuff directly back to the room, but that eats up oodles of time.)

So each of us getting an appetizer, me nibbling off of hubby's main entree, and splitting the desert (probably to go and eat it several hours later), is plenty of food, and nothing goes to waste.

I can't comment on the specific meals you've asked about, but I've never had a single bad experience with meal-sharing at WDW. My most recent trip ended TODAY. We were on free DDP and meal-shared at Whispering Canyon Cafe, Coral Reef, and Sci-Fi. None of the servers seemed even slightly put off by the meal-sharing request and there were no surcharges of any kind.

I'm also curious about this. I have two little PICKY eaters and I usually eat 1/3 of what's put on a preplated dinner. I wanted to share a few of the CS meals in order to spare an extra TS credit per person for CRT, but I also think that portions are out of control these days

I guess i've just never seen food sharing. I guess i can kind of see it with an appetizer included but not with the new ddp in 2008 where no appetizer is included.

For my family sharing meals is really about portion control.
My DD13 and I share most of the time at fast food and sit down restaurants. Depending on the restaurant, my DS11 will share with us, too. If we want dessert and/or appetizer, we share an entree. If we are dining somewhere that has entrees that reheat well (like most Italian in our area), we each order an entree because we know we can finish another day.

We often share at restaurants, both inside and outside of WDW. We just returned Monday from 10 nights of free dining and this time, we only shared once - at Planet Hollywood. Their portions are huge and when we went to eat there, we were not overly hungry. Also, dh and I did a meal at LeCellier without the kids, so we knew we'd be "off" by 2 credits somewhere on this trip, so we just shared for that one partly to even things out as well.

In the past though, we've shared often at WDW and the ONLY time we had a server with "attitude" about it was at Spoodles. She was sweet, pleasant, etc. when we said we were on the dining plan and then when we ordered and said we wanted to share she literally did not speak to us once after that. She just set the food down and walked away and for dessert she just handed us the dessert menu and waited until we said what we wanted. It was horrible!

We basically always tip extra when we share, but we gave her nothing extra and felt like reporting her to her manager (but we didn't).

Other than that, all servers have been nice and many have commented that that's how they'd do it too. For those great ones, we always tipped extra and well.
