sharing card between cameras

I was just wondering if i would be able to take an sd card out of one camera (with pics on it) and put it in another camera to take pictures. i dont want to lose any pictures so i thought that would ask you guys. Thanks.

It shouldn't be a problem at all as long as both cameras are SD compatible.

I do it with DD's camera all the time. We both have the same make, different models.

i have a canon and ds has my old kodak and we have switched the cards..it works fine..no pics lost and you can even view the pics taken with one camera on the other one...

I do it with my Nikon D50 and my Canon Elph so far I haven't noticed any problems. I've been doing it for awhile.

With a 1G card less than $10 these days, why not just buy a second card? I even noticed last night that Walmart is getting in line with the market prices.

Under 10. Yikes I think I would be afraid to get one. Have you tried it? Are they the same as the name brands? I figure I spent around a grand on the Nikon and 400 on the Canon so why be chintzy on the sd. Mind you I realisticly I couldn't afford it but hey I want to keep up my credit cards . While we are on the subject I just purchased my firts Ultra 2 2GB I used it the first time over Labor Day. I don't know if it was my imagination or what but I noticed the difference in speed right away. I'll have to do a test.

It could cause problems - if I use a card on my Dslr, my husband's P&S won't read it - both are Canons. I would definitely suggest getting a second card - always good to have a back-up anyway and with 2 cameras, you really need at least one card per camera. Memory cards do fail.

Just be sure you know what is on the card when you erase/reformat it. For whatever reason when I move an SD card from one camera body to the other the cameras don't see/display the pics from the other camera (even though they are both Nikons, D50 & D80) It would be easy to erase something by accident if not careful.

You might want to do a little research, because as MICKEY88 points out, prices have come way down. Radio Shack had the 2GB Ultra II for $19.99 about a month ago. Newegg has a Kingston 1GB card for only $12 right now. They are another very reliable brand. There are only a handful of card manufacturers in the world, so many different brands are only different by the label they have. I have had a PQI fail on me though.

Yup, they all have a chance of failing no matter the name on the front. I wouldn't pay extra for any brand name (cough-Sandisk-cough) but I wouldn't avoid them if the price was right. The Sandisk Ultra2 is roughly similar in speed to a 60x card, and the 133x/150x cards from other manufactures should be faster - but the weak link is your camera, which is probably too slow to even come close to maxing out a Sandisk Ultra 2 card.

As for the original question, should be no problem whatsoever, as each camera should create its own folder on the card. Remember that a card is basically just a small removable PC storage drive. If you swap between two cameras from the same manufacturer and that manufacturer's cameras don't create different folders, it's possible you could have a problem, but if you're going between different makes, it should be no issue.

That just sparked my memory. When I upgraded from an A70 to a S1 IS, I forgot to completely clear one of my card's file structure and it jumped my file number from around 200 to over 7000 when I used it. It did not have images on it, but I did leave a numbered folder on it.
