Sharing a birthday party (friends)

My friend and I did this in November for my son (5) her 2 sons (2 and 4). We just split the cost of everything. Had it at a place that I wouldn't have paid full price for but when split in half it was ok.. The kids didn't care--they loved it. We were in the same boat--all our same friends invited within 2 weeks of one another!! LOL.. It was nice to share an awesome party with a great friend! (oh and I think the parents of the kids appreciated only having one Saturday taken up vs 2)... convienent...

I just did this with my 4 year old and two of his friends. It was FANTASTIC!! I am an all out party thrower and this gave me a chance to throw a great party without pulling my hair out! All the guests had a great time and the boys loved it. I say go for it!

We do the same thing with dd and one of his friends. There are about 4 kids in his daycare group that have May birthdays, so parents appreciate one less birthday. We rent a bouncer and games, pizza, ice cream.... the works. We purchase cupcakes for everyone but each birthday boy gets his own special cupcake. I wish that we had a girl/boy birthday so that we could do a "Pirate and Princess" party.:rotfl:

We generally have just a family birthday dinner on his actual birthday so he gets that "own party" feeling.

This is great that so many approve! :cool1:

My daughter will be excited to have it at the place she wants and I'll be happy to be saving 1/2 the money!

We will be doing 2 separate cakes because my daughter wants Alice in Wonderland and her friend (boy) wants a Ninja Turtle cake!

The year my DD went to 24 sweet sixteen parties, a lot of them were shared. (and not all of them were big, hall rentals- just backyard picnics)

I know your case is very different, but I wanted to say that no matter what age, it is nice to share a party with a friend.

Last year, we had our kids' party at the Arboreum. My son was turning 7 and my daughter 5. We had the party area for two hours, but unlimited time at the park. SO, my son's friends came at 12, did a scavenger hunt, then came to the party area from 1-2 for cake/food/presents. Then, my daughter's friends met at the party area, had a tea party and presents from 2 -3, and then walked around from 3-4. So we "split" the 2 hour party time. Any shared friends and family were invited from 1 - 3, and told they could come early or stay late if they wanted.

I had three different invites (his, hers and shared friends), a six hour day (including set up and clean up)...I was insane;) Oh, and did I mention - I was about 6 weeks pregnant, tired & sick the whole time? :rolleyes1

That said - it saved a TON of money. I would do it again - just not as involved again!!!

Glad to have found this thread. My youngest dd is turning 20 soon. She moved back home to go to a local college in January, birthday is coming up in May. Wouldn't you know one of her new friends turned out to be the son of a friend of mine .... and the kids figured out they were born on the same day !!!

So now they are planning on a joint birthday blast ... This will be interesting, for sure, as the latest talk seems to have it happening at our home. (which is fine)
