Share your weirdest or worst injuries at WDW

About 5 years ago at the AK, I got a cut on my cornea! I pulled a times sheet out of the bag on the back of our stroller, and wham right in the eye. It was extremely painful. It didn't hurt THAT bad right away, but the next morning, I couldn't bear to open it. I had to go to the urgi care near the Crossroads and see a doctor. I had to wear the darkest sunglasses I could find and use antibiotic eye drops. It still bothers me sometimes and I have a scar on my eye (undetected to the naked eye though). I think that's the last time we were at the AK- not fond memories.

I got a papercut on my cornea once at work. Picked up the phone with a paper in my hand & the paper bent over at just the right time... That sucker hurt so bad! Mine still bothers me too, on occasion.

At Disney though I can only think of one injury & it wasn't bad, just annoying. I was in line for a fast pass. I turned around to walk away & a woman had her stroller almost parked up my bum. I tripped over it & tried to miss landing on her kid. She gave me a dirty look & a sprained ankle. It's too much to ask for a tiny bit of room...

During our 2008 trip, when I made the reservation I requested a bed rail, but it never came and she had never fallen out of bed, so I just let it slide.I mistakenly put my 3.5 year old on the wrong side of the bed compared to which side she slept on at home. Around 1am there was a thud followed by a scream, she fell out of bed. We consoled her gave her Tylenol and put her back to sleep, 10 minutes later she was still crying. I called the lobby to see if there was a doctor anywhere I could call and within 15 minutes the ambulance was knocking on our door. Went to hospital and discovered a broken collar bone. Our ride on the Reedy Creek Ambulance is one we never plan on riding again at WDW. My DH who stayed in the room said someone showed up with an bed rail right after we left! Luckily we only had 2 days left on our trip. Everyone was so great, never got billed for that ambulance ride and Disney paid for a cab for us to get back to our hotel.

I sat on a bee outside Columbia Harbor House. All my life I'd been told I was severely allergic to bees and I didn't have my Ana-Kit on me. Weirdly, I did not drop dead or gasp for air or anything. Sitting was no fun for awhile, but that's it!

All of my "you gotta be kidding me" accidents happened last month! :scared1:
Day 1 the wood on the MK boardwalk was wet. I fell once around noon but was ok. Despite being cognizant of the slippery wood, I went down again around 9pm and did some damage to me right knee and left foot toes. The knee hurt, but the real issue is that two of my toes swelled so I couldn't wear closed toed shoes. It was a mess! And I guess I must have bee walking funny because of those injuries because by day two I had 17, yes SEVENTEEN, blisters on my feet. And all of the shoes I had brought were long since broken in! 2 of the pair had already been to Disney with us in the past!

Then at HS a few days later I got stung by something right next to me eye. I am extremely allergic to stings by the way. I thought it was nothing, but it was really swelling by the time we made it to EPCOT so I had to get an ice pack from the first aid station. They couldnt give me anything topical though because the sting was so close to the eye. That hurt for days. Luckily the swelling actually went away pretty fast.

Oh and my dh was hit by a cm pushing a disney stroller and it cut his ankle and made him bleed.

All in all we were not having good luck! :lmao:

My DH broke his foot playing hopscotch in the UK area of Epcot. DD had hopped it, so he decided to play too. He came down on his foot wrong and broke it. Not a very manly story to have to tell! :rotfl:

The curbs in the MK keep getting me. Mostly at night near Cinderella Castle. I have to be extra careful there because I've wrenched my knee and twisted my ankle stepping wrong off those curbs in the dark.

On my solo trip at the end of Nov. in 2010, my foot was run over by a stroller. They were in a hurry to get their parade spot for MVMCP. At least the Mom stopped, said she was sorry and what they were rushing for before hurrying off. It took just under 7 months for the toe nail to grow back.

We've been lucky otherwise. No huge injuries to report. Knock on wood.

Back in 1999 my son ran his first 1/2 marathon at Disney. Back in those years both races (marathon and 1/2) were on the same day, and actually mingled the starters together. So we were able to be together at the start and for the first few miles, until I could tell I was holding him back.

So at EPCOT we split up (I gave him a kiss on the top of his head and wished him luck). He ran great, and my wife was able to see him finish, the still get back to the marathon course to see me where we had planned.

When I got to MGM (yes, MGM back in 1999) there was my wife on a bench down the road from ToT but my son was MIA. Turns out he was spending all his time in the Mens' Room - he had had too much to drink and eat during the race and his stomach was a mess.

After I finished, we all went back to our room at OKW, rested a little, and were to head back to EPCOT for the day. But our son was still unable to move more than a few feet from a bathroom, so we left him and went (terrible parents).

At EPCOT we were amazed to see Test Track was being run in a testing phase (recall how long that ride took to get up and running?). In all our trips we'd never been there at the right time and never when it was running.

We called our son back at the room and told him to hop on a bus and meet us and we'd do the ride for the first time. He STILL was so sick he was stuck in the bathroom. So the two of us went w/o him. Terrible parents!

Looking back, it was sort of funny. But he was no mood for jokes that day!

A couple of years later my youngest DS now 8 and I were riding ToT for his first time. He being somewhat on the skinny side, I thought, needed some extra holding-on-to while we were going down. His little fanny kept lifting off the seat and it was freaking him out a bit. So I put my hand on his leg and at that moment he lifted up and my finger hit the safety belt and my nail bent backwards. Not broken, just inside out. And bleeding. After the ride, I had to stop at a snack cart and get some ice. OUCH.

this gives me the heebie jeebies!

MIL (after fighting with all of us that morning) pretty much passed out in line and FIL had to "carry her" out of the safari line.. turns out she just had a case of " ruin your trip and make it all about me drama".. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

So you mean I'm not the only wife out there who's stuck with one of these? :rotfl2:

Well the normal things.. like blisters.. ouchie.. all 3 of us got the stomach flu on the flight home.. (although I have heard horror stories about getting it while there).. when my son was 2.. MIL (after fighting with all of us that morning) pretty much passed out in line and FIL had to "carry her" out of the safari line.. turns out she just had a case of " ruin your trip and make it all about me drama".. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

we got it there - on the deluxe dining plan too - day 2 it hit DD in the am (she had it the worse - she didn't eat for 3 days) it hit me night of day 2, hit DS night of day 3, and DH and DD (who was 10 months) on day 4-5. Lets just say when we left we had a few meals unused and several meals we went and only half of our party ate.

That must be why I don't get the stomach bug at Disney - I don't use the dining plan!

I did, however, get the fever and chills flu one year. Fortunately, I travel with OTC meds, so I had medicine. Also fortunately, I had been given an accessible room because I was checking in late on a holiday and that was all they had left. I would have never made it through without all the bars to hold on to or the seat in the shower - I was so dizzy with fever I could barely stand, let alone walk. That's the only time I have ever been sick at Disney (but in hindsight, I believe I was exposed to it before I arrived, so I can't really blame Disney). That was also before the deluxe resorts had coffee makers in the rooms, and I remember running hot water in a glass at the sink to have something warm to drink - yuck! It was a solo trip, so no one to run out for a cup of soup or anything else. I take one of those little immersion heaters if I'm going to a hotel without a coffee maker, just in case . . .

As far as injuries go, the only injury in my immediate circle was when my sister was very young. Back when the monorails had windows that you could open and seats for everyone. She was sitting closest to the open window, and somehow it closed on her finger. It cut it up pretty good, but just short of needing stitches.

A palm frond fell from a tree and hit me while I was walking on the West Side at DTD. In case you're not familiar with palm fronds, they dry up and almost feel like a board. It hurt, but didn't leave any permanent damage. I didn't even report it to anyone.

Seems like people are taking tumbles left right and center according to the postings here! So, share your weirdest or worst injury sustained in the course of duty at the World!

Mine: Both weirdest and worst...I decided to abandon all rational thought and wear a brand new pair of Birkenstocks to DHS. They are sooo comfy right? WRONG! I had a welt on the top of my foot where the band crosses within minutes, skin was off within the hour. No amount of futzing with the strap would alleviate the pain, and I couldn't find a decent shoe in the place that wouldn't rub right there. No amount of band-aids would cover it, not even a pad and gauze!

I still have the scar (yes, SCAR) 10 months later. Ha.

OUCH !!!!have had our share of blisters and as you know WDW not the place to have them. since then I have always worn well worn gym shoes and cotton socks. my cousins husband so sure he could wear his favorite sandals..we told him but he was going to wear what he wanted and was out with us one day and in bed with feet up and ice for rest of their 6 day trip :rotfl2:his feet was also bleeding. he now "listens" to reason a little better...:worship:

Oooo, this one wins so far, for me!!:scared1:Bless your heart! The Times Guide, no less!?!?!?

My most embarrassing almost injury happened on 10/1 in Epcot. I was taking my grilled ribeye taco from the food & wine booth up the stairs of the Mexico pavilion & tripped my way very dramatically all the way up the stairs. I heard someone laugh but they had the decency to turn their head when I looked around. Grace is not my name.

My friend was in a scooter and the kids (2 of them) were walking with me. All of a sudden the scooter runs into me. I scream and try to wriggle out of the way. However, she can't get it turned off and it keeps going. By the end I was on the ground, twisted foot underneath the scooter. It hurt pretty bad but since I was with her what could I do? I limped for most of the day after that. It does give us a little laugh every once in a while and I now usually let her lead the way.

Just 2 weeks ago I was riding Tower of Terror. I fastened the belt, but not really thinking hooked it around my messenger bag. Thinking better of it just before the ride started I moved the bag, but there was no way to tighten the belt. (yes, I know I am completely stupid) On the first drop I went airborn and came down on the handle next to the seat. I tried to put my hand on the handle for the remaining drops, but couldn't really do it. So, I ended up with an ugly bruise about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide on by backside with the imprint of the handle clearly visible down the middle. It hurt like crazy! It's two weeks now and the bruise is finally just about faded.

On our first trip back in '06, we were in AK walking past the Dawa Bar where the misters are.
I was just telling the kids to be careful of the slippery area...and down I went. Not graceful at all ~ somehow landed on my bottom, but also managed to scrape up my knee pretty good! :rolleyes1
I wasn't drinking before we passed the bar, but I sure wanted one after! :rotfl:

I got one! Just before our trip in 2004 I got a sinus infection, told MD to be careful what he put me on as an antibiotic because I was going to FL and spending days in the sun/heat. He apparently wasn't listening. Two days into our trip my legs are covered in a horrible beat red hive/rash from toes to hips. End up in the ER only to find out you're supposed to avoid exposure to the sun on this antibiotic (this warning wasn't listed on the package!). So I ended up getting a steroid shot, pill form steroids and a cream to use. Worst part, I had to protect my legs from any further sun exposure, not easy when I didn't bring any pants. I had to wear my capri pants with DH's socks pulled up over the knee. It looked HORRIBLE! I stood behind DS's stroller for every picture we took!!!

This is not an injury story, but it reminds me of a funny beginning to my 2004 trip. My mom and I were going to WDW with my aunt, cousin, and her son. My cousin was the one driving to the airport. She picked up my mom and me first, and then we went to pick up my aunt. It was ridiculously early in the morning (still dark). We pull up to my aunt's house and she comes out wearing shorts with white socks pulled up to the knees. As she gets into the car, my cousin promptly says, "Oh, no! You're not getting into my car looking like that!" :rotfl2: My aunt passed away two years ago - that trip was her one and only to WDW. I still smile every time I think about those socks.

Now on to an injury story. This didn't take place in the parks, but at the hotel. It was my second trip in 2002 and we were staying offsite. My mom and I were going to a water park, and we were rushing to get to the bus on time (scheduled shuttles - no every 20 minutes like Disney resorts). My mom never wears shorts, but she did that day. As we're running to the bus, she takes a header on the brick surface near the pool and lands on her hands and knees. Now she has two bloody knees we have no time to stop and get them cleaned up. To top it off, of course that was the only day there were no seats left on the bus and we had to stand the whole ride. :headache:

Last year, while watching the finale of the American Idol show, my DS (who was 7 at the time) started screaming/crying as the gold confetti dropped down.

When I was finally able to retrieve his hand to see what the problem was, he explained through his tears that he saw a trading pin on the ground and went to pick it up. The girl next to him, who had lost it, was jumping up and down with excitement, and landed on his hand impaling his finger on the pin. It went right through his finger and came through the nail on his pointer finger - OUCH!

Fortunately for me, he had pulled it out before he showed me, or I might really have been ill. The little girl grabbed her pin and took off, and we made a trip to first aid where they cleaned it and gave us a couple of bandaids.
