How about an "I can laugh now" story?
My brand new wife and I went to DL during our honeymoon trip in 1988. The day before we went, I had sat by the pool of some hotel and got a tremendous sun burn and I was in agony. I could hardly bend my legs or walk around the park and any sudden movement was torture. So we only road the more gentle attractions.
We spotted BTMRR and I told my wife this would be perfect because I had ridden it as a kid in the 60's and remembered how tame it was...
You see where this is going? Yup, I thought it was still the Mine Trains Through Natures Wonderland ride. I had no idea they'd turned it into a roller coaster.
I screamed the whole time - but not from excitement LOL!
