I've been reading some of your journals and I am very impressed with all of your hard work and determination. I just need somewhere to come everyday to make myself accountable for what I've done and what I've eaten. I can promise myself that I'm gonna change my lifestyle but if I don't have to report it to anyone, I find myself cheating most of the time (who am I kidding? I cheat all the time).

Okay, so here's my background info:

- age 21, leading a basically sedatary life and eating the basic college junk food while living away at school

- 5'3, about 125 lbs

- I don't plan on losing much weight, I just want to firm up and gain muscle, especially in my stomach and arms.

- My family also has a history of heart disease and diabetes so I want to try to prevent that. My cholesterol is not high according to the standards, but it is high for someone of my age, weight, and height.

- I was a pretty serious dancer between the ages of 4 to 18, but once I went away to school I stopped. I was also exercised 6 days a week and ate a pretty healthy diet. But once I went away to school, it became harder to find the time to exercise and the resources to eat healthy.

- I don't live on campus so I don't have access to the school's gym so I'm gonna try to do as many exercises I can in my apartment without any equipment. I found a routine that I'm gonna try to start to do three times a week and then work up from there.

- My goals are:
- drink 2.5 liters of water a day
- take a multivitamin every day (very easy to forget)
- reduce my carb intake (which is the majority of my diet)
- limit snacks and eat three meals a day (usually, I just eat snacks all day, not having any real meals)
- not eat after 8 PM (when I do most of my snacking)
- do exercise routine

I have a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly in August and now cause me to have the very attractive "muffin top" . I hope to fit back into those jeans and that will be my first real goal.

Overall, I just want to become healthier so please no flames for my starting weight. People think that just because I'm thin, I'm healthy, but I'm not. I have little to no endurance and I'm tired all the time. And as my mother points out every time I'm home, my metabolism won't be like this forever. ;)

So, tomorrow is my starting day and hopefully this won't be the last you'll see me. :thumbsup2

Welcome, from another Jersey girl. :goodvibes

First, I want to commend you for wanting to be healthier. No matter what anyone's weight - I think we can all stand to be healthier and more toned! :thumbsup2

Second, I feel your pain. I am very similar to you in body size and have toning to do as well. I did lose weight last year to get to this size, but this is the size I was pre-kids. I wouldn't mind staying this weight forever, but I want to be able to not be embarrassed by the flab. Sorry to vent about me, but I'm thinking maybe you feel the same way.

I'll be here cheering for you. Good luck at school and in your quest to be healthier! :cheer2:

Day 1

Breakfast - bowl of Smart Start with skim milk, apple, apple juice
I usually (ok, ALWAYS) have a bagel for breakfast but I'm hungry like two hours later. Hopefully, this will keep me fuller for longer.

Jump rope - 2 minutes
Jumping jacks - 1 minute
(doesn't seem like alot, but it nearly killed me, I was so out of breath!)
45 reverse crunches
20 reverse situps
45 lunges
2 minutes of stretching

Lunch - small bowl of salad (lettuce, carrots) with Ranch dressing, cup of tea with honey

Snacks - Fig Newton minis

Dinner - 6 inch sub - ham, salami, provolone

Snack - 4 Girl Scout cookies

This is gonna be the hardest part of the day for me. I usually snack at night while I'm doing my work or watching TV even if I'm not hungry.

84 oz. of water
multivitamin

Good for you wanting to get healthy! I understand what you are going through with the snacking! If I could, I would snack all day long!
It sounds like your first day went well. Don't worry about only doing 1 min of jumping jacks, you will be amazed at how fast you improve, and in a month or 2 you will be looking back, proud at how far you have come! Keep up the good work.
