Has anyone done this? It seems to be much cheaper than dinner with shamu. How are the seats? Thanks!

It was fabulous! I wrote on my trip report that it was the best thing we did at Seaworld. The food was really good - I had the chicken sandwich and DH had the steak sandwich along with fresh fruit and a little cheesecake. Kids had hot dog and chips. It was really nice having a seat already reserved and not having to fight the crowd. Well worth the $$$.

Now that I finally know how to post pics on these boards, I have gone a little crazy, but here a shot from our seats.

We really enjoyed it, the food was nice, it was the full show, out of the splash show. The food was some of the best we had all trip.

One of the great things was that you didn't have to get there a lot earlier than the show to get your seats, it was recommended 10 minutes to us, which we did. They brought us our lunch as per the previous post. There was a reserved seating area just for the picnic people, but they said you could take your lunch elsewhere if you wanted.

Thank you for the info and the great picture! I went to look into the breakfast or dinner with Shamu and found out about this picnic that is so affordable and was wondering how good it was. Now I know! I think I will go ahead and book it for my family, we will be there the first week of June!

Thank you Tink Lover for the review and pix of the Shamu Picnic Lunch. We did the regular lunch w/Shamu last time and as it is rather pricey, I am very interested in the picnic lunch. You have sold me on it!:thumbsup2

Can't wait to try it next month. Thanks again.

We did the shamu picnic last summer and liked it too. The food was good but not great although it was better than the cold hamburgers we had from one of their CS restaurants. We were very full from the picnic lunch and I don't think I even finished everything. We thought it was a great deal because it wasn't much more than what we paid at the other food places in SW plus we didn't have to get to the show early. :thumbsup2

It's fine so long as you understand wat it actually is. When our Troop leaders made the reservations they were under the impression that you are doing the dining where Shamu is up close. That is not the case, you are sitting up in the stands & they bring you lunch. So, you're not any closer to Shamu than anybody else.

HTH

We had no problems with the food.

I think the descriptions that people have given here are right on. We did it last week and we thought it was so worth it. We didn't have to wait for the show (we got there like 5 minutes before the show), the food was really good and a lot for us and the seats were great. We are not "splash" people, so we had a seat with a perfect view and no water got to us :)

I highly recommend it if you don't want to spend a lot of money or time to see shamu!!

Hi all. We did both Dine with Shamu and the Picnic when we visited in April (food overload but we are from Australia so there are no opportunities to see killer whales here!)
We enjoyed the picnic, the food was great and as stated above you have reserved seats for the show. I especially liked the fact that we didn't have to line up for food and then carry it into the stadium. We just sat in our reserved seats and the food (which was pre ordered) was brought to us. The photo above is deceptive as it is zoomed in. You are in the stadium with everyone else, the seats are the first couple of rows outside the splash zone ( which is about 15 rows, so you are not really close). They are good seats but it's not an intimate experience.

Dine with Shamu is a very different experience. We loved it, we booked as soon as seats became available and got a great table. You have a buffet lunch at tables that are right beside one of the training tanks. When Shamu slid onto the stage area he was just a little over 3 feet away from us! There is a rope like fence between you and the tank. It is not a show really, the trainers tell you and the other diners about the whales and show you some of their behaviors for approx. 30 minutes. The food is good and you get as much food and drink as you like including dessert, but if you are like us we only ate a quick meal with some strawberries for dessert, because we didn't want to miss a minute of these amazing creatures. Expensive? yes, but an unforgettable experience for me and my children. Would do it again in a heart beat...

Enjoy your day at Seaworld

We didn't know about the picnic, but did the Dine with Shamu for lunch. What an incredible experience!!! If you can afford it, I would recommend doing something like that. To have a killer whale SO close that you get sprinkled with water just when it turns its head, is just amazing. The food was very good and could definitely be your main meal for the day, but try to collect it early, so you don't miss the show. You still get to see the actual performance at another time, but this close-up experience is not to be missed if you can possibly afford it.

Perhaps it is just the Aussie in us that makes us want to get up close and personal with a killer whale.:confused3
