Shamu Believe Show Question

I am going with work next week to see the Shamu Believe show and I am wondering what lens would be the best and if I should use a CP filter. The real question I guess is, should I bring my 80-210mm or just stick with the 18-55mm kit? We will have reserved seating that is as close as you can get without being in the splash zone I was told. It has been about 15 years since I was there, so my memory of the layout is a little shady. I keep thinking that the 55mm will be plenty and that 80mm would be too much anyway, but would like to hear from someone that has actually been. Also, we should be viewing the mid morning show (as long as traffic is not bad!), so I am wondering if a CP filter would do anything. Again, I am looking to someone that has been to the show for advice here.

I am trying to keep it light, as this is a work trip and most of the time will be spent in a lecture room and restaurant, so the only shooting that day will be during the show.

Thank you in advance.

Kevin

While I didn't have my rebel on my last trip,
i would think the 18-55 would be fine. I used my kodak easyshare (with not much zoom) and got some great pics of just the stage area.would post but still can't figure it out. you can always crop later.

Just subscribing. I am interested as well as we will be visiting in June. Have a nice trip, Kevin.

I will give my thread one shameless bump :sad2: to see if anyone else has any information to share.

I am thinking more and more that all I need to bring is the kit lens. With as large as the orcas are, I think over that will be too much telephoto. Plus, the only other photo ops I will have that day are of co-workers, and the kit would be fine for that also. Please let me know if someone else thinks differently.

As for the CP use, I looked at Google Maps and it looks like the viewers face from SE to NE depending on the seating, so it really depends on where you sit to know if it would help. We are supposed to see the mid morning show, so it still might help. If it goes to the around noon show, this is not an issue.

Thanks,

Kevin

I think you will want the wider angle

Thank you. It looks like the 18-55mm is the winner. Now I just have to find a way to entertain myself for the three hour ride there and back. It looks like I might be going book shopping this weekend.
