Shameless bragging

We're Mom's! :goodvibes

On a side note....I am jumping for joy today.:yay: My DD's gelding has been sick sick sick lately...I had a new vet come out on Friday for a second opinion and apparently it was the right decision!! The swelling in his legs is gone...his temp is normal and he is acting like a horse again, not a stump in the pasture.

I have been soo worried about him lately and the new vet apparently had the solution.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but I figured as a horse show mom and fellow horse lover you would understand my happiness right now!! :thumbsup2

Cellulitis? Did the vet prescribe Naquadex for the swelling. Good stuff!

He's on something that is a combination steroid/diuretic and I'm too tired to get up and look at the long name for it. Plus he's on antibiotics, and daily antihistamines. The first vet didn't do anything for his swollen legs..just said it was related to his skin infection and left it at that. I almost forgot what his legs looked like since they have been swollen for so long.

Happened to one of my guys once too. Swollen legs are a HUGE red flag. Anytime you stress the leg joints with the excess fluid you are risking severe and permanent damage. Kudos to you for getting the second vet and for getting it figured out! Naquadex is the steroid/diuretic. It's a paste administered 10gms a day for three days. It'll knock the fluid right out.

Cold hosing would help too.

WHY did God make horses so fragile?? All that grace and beauty...1200lbs...balanced on 4 spindly little legs!
