Shades vs. Other Resort

Yes, you can drive over to the Poly and use the monorail there.

No, you can't. Parking there is for resort guests.

"Nothing wrong with the new.... it's just with the old room they had a pull out couch plus a table and chairs separated with a half wall which gave an appareance of a bigger room. Maybe it was just me. "

Do the new rooms not have the sleeper sofa and table/chairs?? I thought they were supposed to be the same as the old rooms. What do you do with the 5th person if there is no pull out couch? Maybe I should request the old section!

We stayed at the Beach Club in 2001 (which cost us a small fortune). We're thinking of going to DW in 2005. Our daughter will have just graduated from the Air Force Acadmey so we could stay st SoG for a reasonable price. However, I think we spoiled ourselves with the Beach Club. What should we do? Also if we stay at SoG should we rent a car or rely on their transportation?

Okay, so I'm intrigued with the toaster sneaking in! How did you hide it? I promise not to tell, for we were thinking about bringing one ourselves, but didn't know if it was allowed!;)

I think I can help with some of these questions, so here it goes--

"I have two more questions: Can we drive our rental car over to the Poly and then use the monorail? Or is it easier to just drive yourself to whichever park you are going to that day?"

The bus to TTC runs every 15 minutes and it is a short walk to the Poly. They are trying to enforce their parking. Also when I stayed at the CR in 2003 and had use of Poly pool because of rehab we were carded. Also in 2004 when we stayed at the Poly they were walking along asking people for their room keys.

"And, does Shades have a bar, or a place we can order drinks in the evening, and take them to our room? And do they sell wine or liquor there at all?"

Yes, the Evergreen Sports bar allowed us to take drinks to our room and poolside in 2002.

SeeDisney - Yes you can take a boat from the Poly to the Wilderness Lodge or Ft. Wilderness, but you can't park at the Poly to use the ferry. I would walk to the Poly, get the boat then afterward take the boat to the CR, ride the monorail to the TTA (only one stop) and catch the SoG bus home. The bus should be there every 15 minutes and it is a short ride to Sog.

However to go to the water parks, DD, AK, or MGM I would always use my own transportation.

Hope this helps

HollyJoy,
Actually, if you wanted to know what the policy is, it is unequivocal:
"Amenities: All rooms include refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and in-room safe. Due to fire codes, any additional cooking appliances (such as microwaves) are not allowed in guestrooms. "

Here is a link to their web site on the rules

(This also goes out on all the confirmations)

Yes, they do! In fact, the pull-out sofa is a full-size rather than the single like in the old rooms!! The table/chairs however, is now only for 2 rather than 4 like the old rooms. We stayed in an old room and toured a new one...they seemed to me to be the same (nice, large) size. The half-walls, however, are gone.

someone asked about getting a drink...

Evergreen's is a sports bar and is open until midnight.

Also, on the map there is an "Eagle's Lounge" that will be opening soon....sounds like a drinking establishment to me, but I didn't ask for details...

Thanks for answering my question about the new rooms vs. the old ones. I guess it doesn't matter which section we are in!

To the OP, if you are still interested in a Disney resort, I got POFQ at the FL resident rate for $93.60/night including tax. That makes it a tiny bit less than SoG.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks, guys for all your help and tips!
My hubby and I have decided to stay at Shades this time (our first) and are looking forward to it! I can't wait!
