So I am going to WDW in about a month and still havent decided on which hotel to pick from. I have to decide today so I'm hoping someone can help me. Im looking at either POP or Shades of Green. SOG is a little bit cheaper(we are doing room only). Questions about SOG. If we plan on taking our car to the parks, do they charge for parking or is it like any other disney resort? And my last question is how far is it from Poly to walk? Any suggestions on which I should choose would be great. Thank you!!:goodvibes

SoG charges $5 a day for parking at the SoG resort. All parking at the theme parks is free, it is like any other disney resort parking priviledges. It is about a 10 minute walk to get to the Poly. Very pretty. There is an official SoG Faq thread.

SOG is a little bit cheaper...

Yes, it is, but for "a little bit cheaper", you get the largest rooms on WDW (for a fraction of what you would pay for something similar at the Deluxe resorts) coveniently located near the Magic Kingdom.

In comparison, POP (as room size and outside room entry go -- no need to beat me up on this one, POP fans!) is more of an equivalent to an upscale motel.

yea thats true I think a bigger room would be nicer. We stayed at POP a few months ago, and while it was themed really cool and all, as soon as I opened the door to the room, the bed was right in my face (well not literally:-))I think I'll prolly go for SOG. Thanks for the help!!

I guess the first thing that comes to my mind is.....are you qualified to stay at SOG? Have you looked to see if there is availability? SOG can be booked way in advance and is not easy to get most of the time. Rates at SOG are dependent upon rank. They are WAY less expensive than any of the WDW resorts AND are the largest rooms on property.

and SoG is nearly always quieter/less crowded..and while the pools aren't fancy or anything, if having pool side time is important to you, it could be a big factor.

even with us about to head to the highest price tier, it is still cheaper than anything else comparable..and no taxes!

I last stayed at SOG in 1996. I got out in 99. It was by far the best of any place I have stayed in on property. Nice rooms, good service, great price (i was an E-5 at the time though so it was really cheap).

Yes we are qualified to stay at SOG...well we have it booked already but I saw that POP was available and we stayed there last year for a day and liked it. But I think the bigger rooms won us over on this one:-)

We have stayed at both and, in my opinion, there is no comparison. SOG is on a deluxe resort level. The rooms are huge and it is much less hectic than POP. The walk to the Poly is very easy. I'm not a big fan of POP, so that might cloud my judgement but there is no way I would pick POP over SOG.

At this late date, you may not have an option. You will be fortunate to get a room....anywhere...at a reasonable rate.

I stayed at SOG several years ago and loved it. It doesn't have the same Disney theming that WDW resorts offer, but the rooms are great. SOG also has one of the cheapest buffets on site with pretty good food.

Should you decide to stay at SOG, be aware that the hotel is very spread out. You could easily have a five minute walk from your room to the pool. So if there are any issues with your party taking long walks, check your room location when you arrive at the registration desk.
