We just got back last weekend from 10 days at SOG. We absolutely loved the resort. The grounds and hotel were beautifully kept. The rooms were HUGE in comparison to other resorts.

The AAFES store was open to all guests once you get into the hotel. They have all kinds of items at a very discounted price. The Garden Gallery was a great choice for breakfast. $7 for adults and free for the kids for the buffet.

We were in the old section right above the pool. The new section is beautiful as well.

For $97 a night, we felt like we got an incredible deal. The busses worked like clockwork and were always right on time. We walked to the Poly several times and took the monorail. We also walked back from the TTC in about 15 minutes a few times when the kids were sleeping and we did not want to get them out of their strollers.

The overall experience was extremely positive. We loved SOG!!!

Thank you! I am so glad to hear it - we will be there in June for 7 nights and are very much looking forward to it - we have stayed at Disney resorts on property 6 or so time and am not worried about losing the "disney feel". We have 3 rooms and have requested connecting (because of the children and infant napping) and in the old section, though we know they are not promised, is there a floor we should request? What was your balcony overlooking? Did you buy the Stars and STripes passes there? ....

Glad you had a nice stay at SOG! We were there this past December and loved it as well!!! Well worth the small price you pay! One of my favorite things was not having to use the WDW buses and fight with the crowds for a seat!

We had adjoining rooms in the old section on the second floor. It was a bit of a walk to the lobby, but we got used to it after a while. There was a staircase right around the corner that led right to the pool. The kids enjoyed being close to the pool and didn't mind the walk to the bus/lobby. We got so used to it after a day or two. We were nervous about getting adjoining rooms (since they are not guaranteed) but we had no problem at all.

Our room overlooked what we think was the 4th hole on the golfcourse. It was a beautiful view. All of the grounds are beautiful, so I can't imagine a bad view there.

We bought our stars and stripes tickets in the morning of our first day. We got right in and it took about two minutes and we were done.

I haven't been back to SoG since the addition. I plan to request the older section as I was quite happy with it during our last stay. Any opinions on which you think is better, more convenient, closer to the pool, to the lobby, etc. Were your rooms already assigned on arrival or did you get to voice an opinion? Thanks.

Hi, We were there about the same time. I just returned on May 10th and was there for 7 nights. This was our 12th stay. We stayed in the new section this time and found it very convenient to the lobby, restaurants (except Evergreen's) and the parking and busses. To get to the pool, we just walked across the courtyard and through the old section. This was our first stay in the new section and it definitely outshined the old section. Granted the old section is nice, but there is a difference.

Glad to hear everyone enjoyed SOG. My DH and I will be there in October. When I made my reservations the only rooms available were the ADA rooms. Any real differences in ADA rooms and standard rooms? I've read the only differences are in the bathroom. Are you able to change your room on arrival if there is availability? Thanks for any info.

Rooms are always pre-assigned. However, if they've put you where you don't want to be, you can always ask if they have any thing else. The earlier you arrive, the better chance you'll have of being able to move, even if they're sold out. Arrive late and your chances of moving that same night slim down.

I also just got back and will post my review (it was also wonderful) soon... but wanted to let you know that when I checked in they showed me three rooms that were available and let me pick which one I wanted. I ended up on the first floor of the new section overlooking the golf course and we loved it!

We stayed in the old section on the first floor next to the Magnolia (quiet) pool, and we loved it. It was nice to open your patio doors and walk out to the pool. The room numbers are 101-113.

I can't wait to go back!!! Maybe in 2 or 3 years

We just got back this morning after staying for 7 days. A great stay ( I will also post a small review). No major complaints, at least non that they couldn't avoid. It was just a fabulous trip. Oh we stayed in the old section overlooking the Mill Pond Pool (mickey pool). Room 352, didn't use the garage, we valeted it instead.

Unfortunately, I really don't. Room assignment was done by the front desk. I know what I used to like out there; 3rd floor (can't stand the pitter-patter of little feet above my head since so many parents seem to think the hallway is a track) facing the golf course (more private than a pool view and it provides entertainment watching those who think they can golf). I couldn't even begin to tell you what the room numbers were (except they all started with a 3). There were a couple of times I asked for changes and only once (out of about 15 times) that I wasn't happy. I was on the 3rd floor but with a view of a huge oak tree that blocked a view of any thing else. That was the only time I didn't get to change rooms. And, for any one wondering, yes, I did spend enough time in the room to make a view important for me (grin).

I think where you want your room depends on your preferences. We liked being closer to the pool and didn't mind the walk to the lobby. Once we were there for a day or two and got used to walking, the walk seemed shorter to us. We didn't care where our room was as long as we had adjoining rooms, so we weren't picky. We were on the second floor and heard nothing next to or above us the entire time. It was extremely quiet. If you plan to have a car there, you might want to stay in the new section as it is near the parking garage.

I agree. Location does have to do with personal preference.

Our first visit, we wanted to be close to the pool, so we requested first floor pool (before they started charging extra or it).

Second visit, we learned from first that being close to the pool was not that important because we did not spend that much time at the pool and also realized there is no way to gain access to the room from outside. Once you close the sliding glass door, it locks.......so you end up going through the halls anyway (won't leave room unlocked/glass door cracked). Since we did not request a particular hall or floor, we ended up all the way to the end of the rat maze (as I call it). The walk to the elevators was too far and then we had to deal with the elevators to get to the bus stop.

3rd visit, we were seasoned and knew exactly what was important to us. Getting to the bus stop as quickly as possible without using an elevator. So, we kept a map of the resort and when we made the next reservations, we gave a block of room numbers as our request......to be in a room on the same level as the lobby.....right after you pass the windowed corridor. And we got exactly what we wanted upon check-in.

Now the bus stop is not in the same place, so our room request may change again. It's tough to choose between the bus stop and Evergreens since we spend quite a bit of time there too. I'm not really interested in the new section for reason of location of everything else. The old section is still the focal point of the resort.

We're looking forward to our stay. We stayed at SoG last May and then stayed at the Polynesian LVC in September - (That was really wonderful.)

We just returned from SOG and had a great time. Everyone loved everything about the resort. We were in the older sections (Room 393) and did not have any problems. The walk to the Poly was not bad even with three little ones almost asleep. They enjoyed the walk until our 8 YO read the sign about feeding the Aligators LOL. We did see one but the golf cart driver said they usually don't every go anywhere near the walk. The pools were always clean and other than a few minor problems we had a great stay. We will certainly go back on our next Disney trip.

I would recomemd SOG to anyone able to use the facility

I was wondering if anyone can visit SOG and eat in one of the restaurants? The menu's look great and teh prices are reasonable. Do you have to be staying at SOG?
