Shades of Green vs Value

This will be our third trip to Disney as a family. Before it was only my DH, me , and our DS 6yo. Now we have added oue DD who will be 8months old when we are there in May. Not sure how this will work traveling with a little one but we will try.

In the past we have stayed at Carribean Beach and the Contemporary. We loved CB - we loved the leisurly walks to the Food Court in the morning and evening. It was so relaxing to us to take long strolls and enjoy ourselves. Didn't mind everything spread out like I have seen people notice on here. Contemporary was "OK" I loved the easy access to Magic Kingdom and the monorail was a BUG plus, but we just didn't get that "Disney feel" and I didn't really enjoy the theming.


This time we are on a little more of a budget ....I have never personally seen SOG or a Value resort in person.... so I am having a very hard time choosing. We LOVE the benfits of staying on sight but from the sounds of it SOG might have bigger rooms and a fridge is a big plus for us as well to with the new baby.

I have stayed in both SOG & All Stars. SOG has much more of an adult feel than the value resorts. It is by no means as elaborate as the moderate resorts in decor, but the rooms are huge! Since you don't mind walking- the stroll to the Poly to catch the monorail is great.
If it were just my dh and myself, I would pick SOG - hands down. Since you have a 6 year old, I'm sure he would enjoy the atmosphere of the Value results. But is that worth giving up the extra room? Did I mention that the rooms are huge!?!

We too will be staying in SOG in May. I work w/2 people who took there familes there last year (the kids were: 5, 6 and 10) and just loved the place for the size of rooms and returaunts and for the great value. The reason why we (me, DH and DD(4) picked SOG over the value resorts was because of it's close local to MK and that we are worried about noise at the the value resorts (I heard they do a lot of packages for school groups) and the somewhat motel appearance of them. I haven't heard anything bad about SOG; It's definetly a favorite with Mil. families. hope you enjoy it.

I would pick SOG, hands down. It is a beautiful resort and the rooms are GREAT!

I've stayed in the Caribbean Beach Resort when it was brand new in '89 and SOG in '98. SOG was definitely nicer for us because the rooms are larger and it's a smaller overall resort, so it doesn't feel as crowded. We didn't even consider the Value resorts in '98 when we chose SOG. Our boys were 12 and 14 then and weren't looking for all the Character stuff, but the truth is you get enough of "disney" in the parks. SOG was where we went at the end of the day to sleep. The convenience to the Poly and the TTC makes walking over to catch the monorail or the buses a nice way to spend some time. The bus ride to the TTC is less than 5 minutes and the walk is about 10. It's definitely quiet and relaxing. SOG is a better value than any of the other resorts. The rooms are huge by hotel standards and with 2 queen beds and a sleeper loveseat, very comfortable for families. My boys at 12 and 14 didn't want to share a bed and didn't have to. My DH and I are going this Nov without our boys who are at college and already have reservations at SOG. We considered GF, but decided at 3x the cost, it was hard to justify spending that money when we can stay at SOG and use the difference for something else.
